Why does the owners manual have a different write up on this. It says to... turn the power on Wait for seat belt light to disappear Buckle/unbuckle 3 times Turn headlights on Turn headlights off Buckle/unbuckle 3 times Seat belt light will light up for 3 seconds Buckle/unbuckle 1 time Seat belt light will flash for 4 seconds. I couldn't get it to work going by the owners manual. but I'm going to try your way. I just think it's weird the airbag light flashes. Obviously it didn't disable the airbag correct?
Right on CRC, Thanks for stopping in, and the great question. Correct, the airbag is not disabled. The funny thing about these "user programmable" features is they run from 1991 - 2011 on the Crown Vic, Grand Marquis, Lincoln Town Car, Mercury Marauder, P71, and P7B. So over the years, Ford had to make slight differences in the procedures to account for different models depending on how each vehicle was equipped when it left the factory. This is another good reason to buy a $20 FORScan tool, so you can just plug into the OBD2 DLC and just enable / disable whatever feature you want with a mouse click on your laptop. WJ Handy Dad has some good videos showing how to use FORScan on a Crown Vic. -Chuck
it shouldn't set off the belt minder if the vehicle dosen't move. mine won't start chiming until a minute or so of me driving with my belt off, which i think is a pretty generous time frame.
also, you actually don't have to apply the parking brake to do this. it says so in the manual, but it will work without it applied, which is the same for all fords.
I just tried this on my 2005 grand Marquis and the airbag light didn’t come on after buckling and unbuckling the 9 times. I actually have an issue where it chimes 5 times with 5 chimes every time I start the car.
