I almost only alone ride a bike to shopping in my austrien village. And with the heat, more and more boys are driving loud, smelly and too fast mopeds. Nothing changes.
Ah but you probably have LOTS of hils/mountains :) When I was last in Austria (a while ago...) I remember the walks were beautiful but killer for my little legs :)

Many others also have electric bikes, but only take them for weekend walks in the summer, not every day.
