Some producers especially the new ones think they have to make ten plus beats per day, which is not automatically a bad thing but they will eventually gon sound like the generic bulk stuff. One GOOD beat per day put some ur sauce, effort and time on that, thats enough, give your heart to the game 🙏

    • @DJPain1
      @DJPain1  7 месяцев назад +13

It’s not about quantity for the sake of quantity; it’s about intention. So making one ‘good beat’ a day as a goal isn’t specific enough. Quality is subjective. If making a ‘good’ beat is your goal rather than something specific such as ‘my goal for this next quarter is to improve my low end mix,’ you’ll drive yourself crazy.

32:21 I relate with Dame here 110% A hobby and a Passion, and if you want it to be a career you will only do what you must do to improve! No matter how fun or not!!
This is what I tell peeps, and try to get them to see. And most people I talk to do it for a hobby, or they say they're gonna quit and it's like, well you need to look to look at yourself in the third person there.
I know/see so many people, all they care about is making beats to get placements fast if they can, they don't even know basic music theory, no circle of fifths, no scales, no actual science of frequencies and vibration, history of music, all sorts. But so many sit there every day wanting it one way and complain where nothings changing and or don't post cause not inspired. If you were passionate about making it a career, wouldn't you push yourself through all the boring and un fun stuff so that you would excel higher later?
That is only one perspective of that, but it's a fair analogy.

  • @emptytombprod

We all have moments where that creative spark is lacking. I need to push through that sometimes, and other times giving myself a little time to get inspired works better. I don't necessarily think it's either/or . Honestly, when I'm not motivated just going and listening to a more seasoned producer gets me in front of the laptop quickly 9/10 times. (To be clear I'm a single dad, part time job, and I homeschool my daughter. Admittedly a different dynamic than most)

Aside from the last fortnight, I post a beat every day if not every couple. I work every day and night, and I schedule myself and somewhat even schedule what beats go up since I make quite a few diff ones. But that doesn't stop me improving because I don't think I need money, I don't think I need to make a "good" beat.
I need to have something I've woken up with intent to do, like improving how I do melodies for example, or how I can achieve a better result on mixing certain things and so on and so forth. This is a lifelong process where we forever grow and learn. And everyday you should apply critical thinking towards your work. This in turn will bring me money and more work.
“You will enrich your life immeasurably if you approach it with a sense of wonder and discovery, and always challenge yourself to try new things.”
“Anyone who stops learning is old, whether at twenty or eighty. Anyone who keeps learning stays young. The greatest thing in life is to keep your mind young.”

Love that ya’ll dove deep into the tweet. Something I added to it on Threads but not Twitter was this:
“So a better way to look at it instead of getting shot ups is to just go to the gym and dribble around. Practice that move you saw last night. That’s what art is: PLAY” and that’s where I think I’m being misunderstood here.
I believe in showing up everyday and creating and being consistent in that regard. And what I am talking about in the tweet is mindset that treats this like a sport when it’s not. It is art. Going into the studio and being present in what you’re creating now. Then love it. Then do it again. That’s the playing

I didn't pursue music professionally; I joined the military, ventured into the corporate world, and even dabbled in startups. I got back into music last year after a decade-long break. From my varied experiences (structured, semi structured, entrepreneurial) it seems that the hardest workers often find themselves the luckiest 🙂
So, in my opinion, you have to grind daily. Someone else always is. Jerry Seinfeld committed to writing jokes every day. His show about "nothing" didn’t just come out of thin air.

Thanks again for the great content, Much appreciated!
To me, having a schedule really helps in actually finishing work. I had a long period where I had hundreds of unfinished "loops" on my drive, once I made a schedule, I started finishing beats and was able to start actually selling beats.
Now I do have different genres that I work on, for different purposes, but I started seeing them ask tasks related to my job. (I still work a 9 to 5 on the side and have a 4 year old son) and purposly making steps to transition from working for a boss to having my own business.
I do believe if you want to really make a living off your music (and your passion) you need to treat it as a profession and this means that sometimes you will need to perform, even if your mind isn't at it in that moment.
People who say that this kills inspiration and creativity might want to consider if they have the correct mind set, or just make music for themselves with the risk of getting bitter that their true potential will never be unlocked.

I honestly feel that business and art merge in post. The business doesn’t belong in the booth, or anywhere near my writing session. I love music, therefore as an amateur, professionally speaking, I do this for FREE. If I end up doing something “business wise” it will become apparent after I get out the booth, and everyone feels it during the playback. My partner, the CEO of our label hates my perspective, but he loves what I do musically, and that’s as far as his interest should go. Some people are type A, others type B - we need to give everyone room to be who and how they are. There is a difference between a musician and performer. There is a difference between a creative and a talent. There is a difference between drive and passion. Both are motives, but there is nuance. These distinctions need to be pointed out more often. Writers block, creativity block, these things happen! That’s why sometimes we get a dance break - niggas didn’t have nothin to say over some parts of the record, and sometimes you just need to sit back and chill.

The goal should always just to better yourself and your sound however u can it’s not always making a beat or completing a good beat is that actually making you better? Focusing on a specific goal and working on it everyday even if a beat isn’t completed is making you better. So the next time you complete a beat you use what you learned and what comes out of it? Improvement. Instead of just saying okay one beat a day. What happens if you don’t happen to make a beat a day? You might start to get all nervous and anxious cause you didn’t meet that broad goal which isn’t benefiting you.

I'd say a workflow that could be a bit cleaner is to get a base concept for a track down, lay down a progression, melodies, or drums, or whatever you feel right starting with, and then take a step back, do something else for a little bit, take a breather from the track and then come back to it, cause when you're actively working on something your perception of it all kind of becomes mush, and listening back after a slight break gives you a bit of a different perspective. After that you can decide if you like it and want to continue work on it or if it's just not sounding right and you wanna start from the ground up.

Those people think the only way to make it work is to get directly popular, when the best way to do it is to collaborate with people directly, find people who could be looking for your work, send them examples of your work and build a relationship with people. And by that I don't mean "send Drake a beat folder in DMs" I mean find people who you can actively communicate with, people in your reach.
