  • This was made for a friend of mine, thus my choice of scenes might not be the obvious one (for example, the "jump" scene is missing), but I assure you, those were the scenes best suited for the task at hand. Unfortunately, there are only so many priceless moments you can cram into 15 minutes of video.
    No copyright infringement intended; the material unfortunately isn't mine, you know the deal.

      Gruffudd has repeatedly said he'd love to keep playing Hornblower. I keep hoping someone will magically appear to finance more one these days.

      Pumpkin Hill Financing is the problem. These movies are exceptionally expensive to make.

      @@normanbraslow7902 Yep - Gruffudd was hoping 'Forever' would make him enough money to finance another set of movies. Unfortunately it got cancelled. All of the props, costumes, and models were auctioned off too, so if anyone wanted to make more movies they'd have to start from scratch. Really unlikely, especially considering costume dramas have been a low ebb recently. Nobody wants to take the financial risk.

    best things about the scene 1:10 is that he basically gets the best outfit possible by trading away his rations for the foreseeable future - and then most of it ends up burnt, full of soot and smoke and completely drenched in seawater.

      Well, not that different from the Young Hornblower books, which are the ones covered by the series. The 2nd season in particular is a surprisingly faithful adaption of Lt. Hornblower, Archie Kennedy's existence notwithstanding. Is _is_ quite different from the 50's movie. Some particularly good quotes aside, I consider that a good thing.
      I think the thing is that the Young Hornblower books are fairly different from the rest of the book series.

    • @SarahB1863
      @SarahB1863 3 года назад +4

      Yes - and that's why the first four A&E Hornblower movies did so well, both in the UK and in America. The book Hornblower is solitary, stoic, and unemotional - may make great reading but it makes him inaccessible as a movie character. That's why the addition of Archie Kennedy in the A&E series was so genius - the writers gave Horatio someone to talk to, to contrast his personality, and to showcase just how awesome of a character Horatio is.
      Unfortunately, the Forester estate didn't like such a non-canon character being so popular, so they demanded Archie be written out. He was...and the third set of movies was a dreary mess as a result. Without the character of Archie, Horatio came across as cruel, distant, and just plain unlikeable. It did so poorly in the ratings that there's no real calling for a fourth set of movies, not even by fans of the first two sets.
