    I personally like Cover Up because I found it relatable. My interpretation was more that Buttercup viewed her blanket as a lucky charm that she was weak without more so than a standard comfort item, something she says in the episode.
    I think it's important to realize your strength comes from within because what if you were to lose your comfort item? That's happened to me once so I think it's important to learn.
    There's nothing wrong with comfort items but I always felt that we were supposed to see the scenario as more of lucky charm than a comfort item, which felt like the point Blossom was trying to make IMO.
    Saying she was being abusive seems a bit harsh.
    Hopefully we can agree to disagree.

    I actually like Blossom (Along with Bubbles and Buttercup). Even though she can be bossy, vain, and arrogant at times, she deeply cares for her sisters, and wants to protect them. I think, and correct me if I'm wrong on this one, I think that wanting to protect her sisters is the reason for her bossiness
    Also, A Very Special Blossom is my worst Powerpuff Girls episode. I know, what Blossom did was wrong, but that ending was too harsh for her! (In my opinion)

    Even though Blossom has been my favourite of my girls for as long as I can remember, you brought up some excellent points on her least favourable moments you explained here. I hope that the next reboot will not feature her being a little mean about her sisters' attachments to their comfort objects whilst toning down her uptightness and arrogance.

    I think most of these horrible powerpuff girls episodes deserved some better remake. Not just just the show itself, the but the whole writing that need to be improve better. No matter we got some horrible episodes with alot endless explanation of questions, I think it's time to re-script the plot into a different direction.

    The "Daylight Savings" episode could've been a stepping stone for something potential.
    There needs to be a group of supers to lead the night patrol & handle crimes pass the PPGs' bed time.
    That way the Girls will get plenty of peaceful sleeping knowing that crime is being handled late at night pass curfew.

    1:48 Yeah, I didn't like the way Ms. Keen treated the girls either, and I especially hated it when the Powerpuff girls told her that the Gangreen gang started the fight when they were throwing paste, Ms. Keen's response was "It doesn't matter who started it, what matters is that you fought back." It does matter who started it, because:
    1) If someone fights you and you fight back, it's called self-dense and self-defense isn't wrong.
    2) She should know better than to think that the powerpuff girls would just attack people for no reason.
    3) Even when both parties are in the wrong, it's hypocritical to punish one side for retaliation but not the other side who started it and gave them a reason to (especially when they were grown men).

      @Rokenrol Bro 2019 No one really mentions this about Bubbles in Octi Gone, but she got away with acting like a brat in that episode.
      Alice summed it up better than I could so I'll just repost what she wrote on DeviantArt here:
      _I agree on Bubbles coming off as exceedingly whiny and annoying in “Octi Evil.” After seeing the 2002 movie, I’ve always thought that Octi was so important to her because he was the first gift that her father, Professor Utonium, bought for her. Actually, exploring why Octi had so much sentimental value to her would have been a compelling story. Instead, we get Bubbles being a whiny brat by ruining the dinner party her family was throwing, being irrationally accusatory towards all the guests, and having an excessive attachment to that stuffed animal to the point of ridiculous distraction, even during school lessons and battles with monsters._

    • @yunidai16
      @yunidai16 Год назад +1

      "Bow Jest" was pretty messed up with its moral. I know people gave "Cover Up" flack for Buttercup "being forced to" give up her blanket, her sisters laughing at Buttercup for her excuse, etcetera. However, they had no bad intentions, and they at least tried to reassure her that she didn't need the blanket to be a great fighter. When Buttercup did get it back, her sisters were annoyed because they thought she didn't learn her lesson about not needing it. Yes, Blossom's method, while dishonest and morally wrong, did help Buttercup realize that even without her real blanket, she fought as well as ever. Her sisters never really forbade her to have the blanket. Buttercup gave up the blanket because she felt she was caught between either confessing that she just had a soft spot for her blanket, or giving her blanket up and covering her secret.
      In contrast, the comic "Bow Jest" has Bubbles make fun of Blossom for "needing her bow to fight", and Buttercup stealing her bow the next day, smugly rubbing it in Blossom's face, and no one steps in to solve the issue, at least until Mojo Jojo comes in and takes it from Buttercup. Even when Bubbles gets the bow back from Mojo Jojo and gives it back to Blossom, it's done out of annoyance with the latter.
      While it's understandable that Blossom is supposed to learn that her abilities don't come from her bow, but from her own self-confidence, it's a bit messed up that the narrative still brushes off Bubbles and Buttercup tormenting Blossom as them "teaching her a lesson".

And then instead of trying to help Bubbles look for Octi she goes into a tirade about how Bubbles only wants it because she’s insecure and just needs to “get over it” and grow up. First of all you guys are 5 she doesn’t need to grow up, second having a plushy for comfort doesn’t always mean someone is insecure, third if having a plushy cause they are insecure isn’t a bad thing, and fourth telling someone to just “get over it” is one of the most insensitive things you can say to someone going through anything!! And then when Bubbles finds Octi she says “this time but maybe some day you won’t” Blossom are you threatening to do something to Octi?? Freaking wench.

    Alright, my list here is back up.
    TLDR
    #5. Mojo Jonesin’
    #4. Moral Decay
    #3. Bought and Scold
    #2. Powerpuff Bluff
    #1. The Headsucker’s Moxy

    • @Mew_Master
      @Mew_Master 3 года назад

      #5. Mojo Jonesin’
      Why it doesn’t work: A disguised Mojo Jojo offers some kids temporary powers, and when they wear off, they of course want more. Mojo agrees, but on the condition that they destroy (aka KILL) the girls! They agree without a moment’s hesitation, and ACTUALLY DO IT! Mojo then reveals himself, but by then it’s too late, and their powers are wearing off again. Then I guess the writers wrote themselves into a corner, so the kids use the last of their temporary powers to revive the girls. Then we get another problem I have with this episode. The girls just blow off the fact that they were basically murdered. If I recall correctly, in the episode Mime For A Change, even when Mr. Mime became Rainbow the Clown again, they didn’t just forgive him, they still beat him up and throw him in jail. In this episode, they basically just say “Oh, haha, don’t do that again.” WITH BIG SMILES ON THEIR FACES!! Yes, I know, these are just kids they’re dealing with, so beating them up in return would a bit too extreme, but they could’ve at least told them off worse than that.
      Something nice about it: This episode is supposed to be a metaphor for drug addiction, and I would say it at least does that well enough.

    • @Mew_Master
      @Mew_Master 3 года назад +1

      #2. Powerpuff Bluff
      Why it doesn’t work: Nearly every character in this episode brainless BEYOND ALL BELIEF in this episode! Three criminals disguise themselves as the Powerpuff girls and commit crimes as them. And the main joke of the episode is that no one can tell them apart, despite the fact that they are terrible at it. WHY DID THEY THINK THIS WOULD BE FUNNY??? In any case, they then run into the mayor again, and he invites them to his place. And what’s worse is that Ms. Bellum actually has half a brain and can see through those disguises, but she doesn’t say anything until it’s too late! When she finally tells the mayor, he HAS THE GIRLS ARRESTED!! Ms. Bellum arrives and tells them what’s going on, and the girls break out of jail, which at this point I don’t even blame them for. They then fight them off, but no, even the girls and criminals can’t tell each other apart from their counterpart. So they just fight their counterparts and finally throw the criminals in jail. But no, we have to end on a bad note, and apparently the girls are going back to jail for breaking out. What. Were. They. THINKING???
      Something nice about it: Well, I suppose since this is one of the very first episodes, I could chalk this episode up to the crew not yet having found their groove. I’m sure they learned from episode this later on.

      @HackiePuffs  4 года назад +1

    • @Schoolgirl325
      @Schoolgirl325 3 года назад +3

      The difference with Linus’s security blanket in The Peanuts, though, is that, even though it’s something that Lucy and most of the other kids, except for Charlie Brown, tease him for having, the narrative still allows him to have it. I think they were framing Buttercup’s security blanket as more of a good luck charm that she used for self-confidence before fighting, rather than something that she had to have to talk to and walk around with to feel safe, no matter what, like Octi for Bubbles, or the security blanket for Linus in the Peanuts.
      For me, again, like with “Moral Decay,” it’s not so much the resolution/lesson that Buttercup was taught at the end of “Cover Up,” it was the needlessly mean-spirited, out of character, and hypocritical way in which Blossom and Bubbles got framed as being in the “right” for bullying and pressuring Buttercup to give it up. The resolution that Buttercup should realize that her strength to be a great fighter comes from within, rather than from her blanket, isn’t the problem in and of itself. It’s the execution that takes away her agency in the choice of whether to keep it or give it up
      Personally, I don’t see anything wrong with a five year old having a security blanket that they talk to and cuddle with for self-confidence, but I understand that Buttercup’s status quo as the “toughest fighter” had to remain. I get that it’s important to understand that one’s strength come from within, not from a good luck charm, and I get that that was the lesson they were trying to teach Buttercup in “Cover Up.”
      However, that doesn’t still mean they couldn’t have done it in a better way that didn’t condone sibling bullying to force them to “man up” by pressuring them to give up something they love that makes them feel lucky.
      Instead of having Buttercup give up the blanket after being bullied and pressured by Blossom and Bubbles to do so, it would have felt like more well-earned and positive character growth that gave her agency, if Professor Utonium had just had a conversation with Buttercup where he gently reminds that her strength comes from within, but if keeping the blanket really made her feel safer, she could keep it for as long as she liked, while still continuing to be the “toughest fighter” as well.
      *Then,* if the resolution was still that Buttercup gives up her blankie because she realizes that she doesn’t need it as a good luck charm, it would actually have felt like well-earned positive character growth that gave her agency in the matter.
      While I love the OG PPG cartoon, one of the weaknesses of the show’s writing was Buttercup centrics. They mostly seemed to exist to turn the world against her, even those she loved the most. Granted, there generally were times when she was being a brat, being disobedient, or making bad choices that led her there, but even then, I felt a sense of annoyance at how much the world seemed to be against her in them because it never got this bad for Blossom and Bubbles when they made bad choices or got in trouble in their centrics.

      @@Schoolgirl325 Moral Decay is one of my favorite episodes of all time. I think it's a laugh riot. Ploy's are Us is also one of my favorite epsidoes and I love Down and Dirty. Also I don't think its out of character for Blossom and Bubbles to tease Buttercup. Sisters tease each other from time to time its normal. It's been a while since I watched cover up in particular but teaseing someone for having a blanket is a natural reaction. She hid the blanket because she didn't want people to think less of her. If she wasn't teased then she could just keep using her blanket like its no big deal. She would have no reason to get rid of it. I suppose it could have gotten destroyed and she could have needed to fight without it. How can you walk around with a blanket and not get called out by somebody?

      @@Schoolgirl325 Why was the professor ok with Buttercup getting beat up. Powerpuff Girls runs on cartoon logic. In cartoons, you tend to exaggerate. You can't blow up a real person with dynamite but a cartoon character can blow up another cartoon character with dynamite. They are usually ok in the end. Also, she is a Powerpuff she can take it. They wrecked the town playing tag. Same with Down and Dirty. In cartoons you tend to exaggerate. A real person can't stink so bad you get kicked out of town.

    I actually really liked “Film Flam,” but then I really loved all of the episodes and segments that showed just how much of a caring, kind, protective, reasonably strict, sweet, selfless, and supportive dad Professor Utonium could be to the girls in episodes, such as “Uh Oh Dynamo,” “Collect Her,” “The PowerPuff Girls Best Rainy Day Adventure,” “PowerProf.,” “Knock It Off,” “Meet The Beat Alls,” “Helter Shelter,” “The Mane Event,” “Ploys ‘R Us,” “Boogie Frights,” and the 2002 prequel movie. 99% of this fandom is so obsessed with shipping the girls romantically with the RRB, but the REAL love stories in the OG PPG cartoon were the *family* relationships between the three girls as sisters and Professor Utonium as their father.
    Yeah, even in early seasons, they had some wildly ooc moments, particularly in “Moral Decay,” Cover Up,” and “Daylight Savings,” which the fans mostly ignore or at the very least, pretend ended in a better way that actually made sense and kept the characters credibility and integrity in tact. However, *for the most part,* all three of the girls really loved and supported each other as sisters, even if they bickered at times, and Professor Utonium loved all of them like daughters.
    And yeah, one of the flaws in the writing of the OG cartoon was the occasional thing of Buttercup’s centrics existing to get her in trouble, punish her, and/or make her suffer, even if she and/or the other characters had to be derailed to suddenly become unsympathetic to turn the world against her, Buttercup’s punishment for being in the wrong was disproportionate retribution (“Moral Decay”), double standards suddenly seemed to exist for what she could get away with doing versus what her sisters could get away with doing, and/or even when she wasn’t doing anything wrong at all (“Cover Up”). It’s like the writers did not seem to know how else to write centric episodes focused on the “toughest fighter” that weren’t about her failing, getting in trouble, or suffering, even when she didn’t do anything to deserve it. Some people point out that the writers seemed to hate her character because of how they wrote her centrics, but I don’t think that’s it. I think it’s the fact that the writers genuinely did not know how else they were supposed to write stories centered around the little girl who was the “toughest fighter” on a show that wanted to display how badass girly girls could be. Now, of course, the opposite problem in fictional media exists. Tomboys save the day and get the most positive focus all the time in stories, while girly girls are portrayed as weak, annoying, and/or damsels-in-distress.

    • @HackiePuffs
      @HackiePuffs  3 года назад +5

      You definitely hit the nail on the head with the tomboys getting all the attention and the girly girls getting shoved to the side. The reboot of this exact show is a pretty good example of that. That’s always been something that bugged me as a girly girl myself (although I do have some tomboyish tendencies) like I get trying to defy stereotypes of girls but then when you focus solely on defying a stereotype you kinda create a new one.

    • @Schoolgirl325
      @Schoolgirl325 3 года назад +4

      @@HackiePuffs Yeah, in the reboot it’s like the writers *overcorrected* the *occasional* flaw in the writing for Buttercup’s centrics in the OG cartoon mostly framing the character in a negative light, and/or giving her the short end of the stick. Thus, they made Blossom and Bubbles mostly irrelevant, weak, and useless in the reboot, and essentially turned Buttercup into a Mary Sue-type tomboy main character, who gets the most focus, and who does most of the saving of the day herself.

    • @Schoolgirl325
      @Schoolgirl325 3 года назад +2

      @Rokenrol Bro 2019 I think a major problem is that the classic PPG cartoon veered to far into a plot vs character driven cartoon at times, but then also added in nods to continuity. The writer didn’t always feel very strongly connected to consistent characterization because they didn’t have an overarching story, but then they also wanted to follow it at times, too, such as Mojo inadvertently having a hand in creating the girls, Professor Utonium creating the Dynamo robot for his kids to fight crime in, Bullet, the girls having killed the RRB in late S1 with kisses of death, Buttercup’s security blankie, Ms. Bellum and the girls cutting off all of Sedusa’s hair to punish her for her crimes in “Something’s A Ms” in her S6 reappearance, the Professor once getting hypnotized by an evil cat that used him to create a device that forced the entire human race to be slaves to cats, then making him jump off a building, Buttercup once having had a crush on Ace from The GangGreen Gang, the girls having stopped Mojo in “Monkey See-Doggy Doo,” Mojo trying the same plot all over again in “Monkey See Doggy-Doo Two,” the girls having battled HIM before, and Princess having been naughty for Christmas in the past by making crime illegal in “Bought and Scold” in the Christmas special.
      Granted, consistency and continuity in characterization and plot do not always have to be followed to a T in episodic cartoon sitcoms in order to be good. It worked on SpongeBob for the first three seasons pretty well, after all. However, SpongeBob also never tried to take itself seriously, or have any sort of nods to continuity at all. Each episode was in its own separate universe/timeline.

    • @Schoolgirl325
      @Schoolgirl325 3 года назад +3

      @Rokenrol Bro 2019 This is true. However, at least in regards to “Moral Decay,” I know it was at least partly written by Craig McCracken, who created the show, so it makes it all the more disappointing that he really flushed his show’s core themes of family and sisterhood between the girls and the Professor in that episode down the drain, so that he could go for cheaply shocking gratuitous violence with unfortunate implications at the end. It’s especially disappointing that it was followed by the really great segment of “Meet The Beat-Alls,” which he also wrote.
      Granted, I do think the classic PowerPuff Girls, while a good cartoon overall, was Craig McCracken’s first major creation/show when he was just starting out in his twenties to early thirties, so I can understand why his writing and storytelling choices were still occasionally more immature back then. Also, Lauren Faust, who was also involved in the writing of “Moral Decay,”and she was also one of the same writers of the previous episode “PowerProf.” in which the ending involved a twist reveal of the girls having very stupidly and thoughtlessly endangered their father’s safety and well-being by setting up a fight between him and Mojo Jojo, while having them locked away in a cage, all because they were too afraid to tell him that they didn’t want him to fight crime with them anymore because he inadvertently embarrassed them by being a Dad™️

    #5 Never watched Film Flam actually.
    #4 Schoolhouse Rocked is mostly good, but Miss Keane is an idiot, and this isn't the only episode where she lost brain cells. Getting Twiggy With It anyone? Yeah, trust the sociopathic school bully to take the class hamster home for a day.
    #3 Cover Up.
    Okay, this is an example of an episode that with a few tweaks, could've actually been good. And I'd like to explain some misconceptions. Number 1, the reason why Blossom was upset was because Buttercup would be late RESPONDING TO THE HOTLINE to stop crime. This is actually a big deal. They found her in a closet murmuring affirmations to herself with the blanket. Later on when they laugh, it's not because Buttercup has the blanket. It's because she actually thinks it has the power to make her a "great fighter" when she already _is_ a tough fighter. That's why Blossom says, "You don't need a blanket to _fight."_
    An intervention with Buttercup WAS actually necessary, but the Professor is the one who should have gotten involved, not Blossom, and she should not have been forced to give up her blanket cold turkey.
    Whoa whoa, Blossom wasn't being "abusive" using the fake blanket. She was trying to get Buttercup through the fight. Do you think she hid the real thing or something? No, Buttercup misplaced it by accident and had a complete freakout.
    I can also explain why Blossom has kind of a "bitchy" attitude around comfort objects. It's because she's not that sentimental. She's the most "mature", so has less need for comfort objects. It doesn't condone her elitism but it's an explanation.
    #2 Fallen Arches.
    Hey Blossom, you know who else counts as your "elders"? EVERY SINGLE VILLAIN IN TOWNSVILLE OUTSIDE OF PRINCESS AND THE ROWDYRUFF BOYS!
    #1 Daylight Savings.
    The one funny thing about this episode was the Professor's over-dramatic reaction to the dreaded parent-teacher conference meeting, which if you're a parent, you can relate. NOBODY wants to go to those things.
    Also, when did Miss Keane become Chi-Chi? Education is important, but like saving the world, always takes precedence!

    • @HackiePuffs
      @HackiePuffs  4 года назад

      rhonda howard fair points you make on Cover Up but it still sucks the way Buttercup was treated. And by abusive tactic I meant tricking Buttercup psychologically just to prove a selfish point. That’s something that a lot of abusers do. Also it’s fine if Blossom doesn’t need a comfort object of any sorts but her sisters clearly do and she has no right to shame them for it. Buttercup may not have needed it to fight but she feels the need for it for comfort and confidence. That’s why she needs the blanket. Buttercup not showing up when the hotline rang yeah it is a bit of a problem but Blossom escalated it way beyond what was necessary. She could’ve went into battle with the monster and have Bubbles or the professor talk to Buttercup or the other way around with Blossom and Bubbles but instead she just forces Buttercup into battle when Buttercup isn’t in the right state of mind and is basically just like “suck it up”.

    • @rhondahoward8025

      "Paste Makes Waste" - To Ms. Keane's credit, she does her best to stop most of the children from bullying Elmer, and she didn't expect Buttercup to participate in it because she and her sisters are superheroes. And to be fair to Buttercup, she just thought they were all having fun, and she did feel guilty when Elmer cried (who wouldn't if you had glue and sticks thrown at you in at high speed). Though Ms. Keane should have also told Elmer about how unhealthy it was to eat paste, instead of just saying it was because eating paste was "an imitatable act".
      "Ice Sore" - I think it's Bubbles and Buttercup were just jealous that Blossom had a superpower that they didn't, and because all three girls were superheroines who only fought against criminals and/or incoming dangers, the Girls were most likely under the impression that the "emergencies" only referred to crimes going on in Townsville.
      To add on to the point, example, in "Geshundfight", Blossom _did_ dismiss the Mayor's call for an illness as "not a real emergency" and gave him the best advice she could to make sure he got better. To be fair, the Powerpuff Girls were crime-fighters, not doctors or pharmacists. Only when they got sick too did they now take the issue more seriously.
      Edit: I rewatched the episode, and Blossom did indeed know everyone else was sick, and told the Mayor to tell everyone to get rest. Sorry about the mistake.
