HTML-код
- Опубликовано: 4 апр 2019
- Today's trip down memory lane, takes me to a Gilligan's Island TV show filming location in Echo Park, Los Angles and Amiee Semple McPhereson's historic Angelus Temple.
I also visit the grave sites of actor Jim Backus (Thurston Howell III), at Westwood Memorial Park, and writer and show creator, Sherwood Schwartz, at Hillside Memorial Park in Culver City, California.
I also remember the rest of the cast of Gilligan's Island:
Bob Denver (Gilligan)
Alan Hale Jr. (The Skipper)
Russell Johnson (The Professor)
Natalie Schafer (Lovey Howell)
Tina Louise (Ginger)
Dawn Wells (Mary Ann)
Thanks for joining me for another nostalgic blast from the past.

When I was in the Army stationed in Europe in 2002, I reached out to Russell Johnson via email to thank him for his book. To my surprise, he replied! He said "From one Army Air Corps guy to another Army guy, thank you for your service."
Nice to hear. Thanks for sharing that with us, Hawk, and yes, thank you for your service!
I love that show man. It’s sad that Dawn Wells is gone. She’s so beautiful even now
When shows were actually good.
Such a great time to grow up, this new generation is sadly missing out.
My 6 yo son and i watch this together
Yes, we really were lucky to grow up when we did. Thanks for sharing with us Johnny 😊👍
@@TheGraveyardChannel Very True. Thanks for doing what you do here
I watch this show with my mom, along with the beverly hillbillies and green acres.
Hi Steve: thank you for this nice little travelog. I live just a few blocks from Westwood Memorial Park and I’ve been there many times, but I didn’t realize Jim Backus was there. I also thought they filmed the show in Studio City but maybe I’m wrong? Anyway thanks again. Very enjoyable.
When I was a little kid. It was one of my favorite shows. And I really thought that they were stranded on an island, and wanted to get a boat to go searching for them 😂
Me too
I always put say I wouldn't believe live on Gilligan's Island get away from all this stress
Great channel ! Well done.
I used to think when you turned off the TV, it would stop its progress, so when you turned it back on, it would pick up where you left off. I would throw tantrums when I believed someone had turned on the TV in my absence, and lost my place. How dare they! lol
Amazing how Gilligan's Island, a show that ran 3 reasons only, made such an impact. R.I.P. to the 6 who are gone....Thank u Steve for the memories.

Loved Gilligan's Island, to this day I still watch all the reruns,oh my gosh they were so funny. I really miss all these wonderful old television shows . Thanks Steve for a other great memory
Thanks, Paulette!
@@TheGraveyardChannel Great video uploads. Keep up the good work. Can you do a video of the burial sites of the cast members of Get Smart?
Hard to believe Dawn Wells and Tina Louise are now in their eighties. It was a silly show but as a child I enjoyed it. Thank you for the memories.
Always enjoyable. 🙂
Some of these silly comedies I appreciate more now than I did as a kid :-) Thanks, Sue!
TV shows, particularly "situation comedies" were just entertainment, particularly in the earlier years of TV. Gilligan and the Skipper (we never found out his real name) really made the show.
Sherwood Schwartz said casting "the Skipper" was the most difficult role to fill and he was at his wit's end as to who he could call up to fill the role when he just happened to be in a restaurant and spotted Allan Hale.
The show was a bit goofy (e.g. "The Professor" was always coming up with ingenious gadgets, supposedly constructed out of bamboo poles and vines, yet he never managed to figure out a way to get them off the island). But only a little bit of 'belief-suspension' was required to enjoy the rest of the show.
As a kid I watched Gillian island all the time. Still do.
Great video. Most sitcoms today are all about sexual innuendo and pure garbage. Love these classic shows.
RIP Dawn
RIP Dawn Wells. You will be missed.
I can't get over the fact that she's passed now. Please her heart!
This was one of my favorite shows as a child. This video was a beautiful tribute to the past.
I loved Gilligan's Island and also the Brady Bunch. Memories!
I'm the same as you watched a lot of those old beloved TV shows. Yes, I too have The Brady Bunch on DVD. I'm waiting on my DVD order The Twighilght Zone. I also have Hogan's Heroes, M.A.S.H, Bewitched, you name them.@Bobby Brady
@Bobby Brady I'm not fussed although I do have a blue ray player. Still on order so I havent got it yet.
I was born in 63, so Gilligan's Island (every word of every episode) is ingrained in my brain. I'm 58 and still watch it anytime it's on tv. Pulu Ce' Bagoomba! Me, myself and I, Things With Wings, G131131, Keptaborra berries.... MAKE IT STOP!
@Bobby Brady I was born in 1965 & remember watching Gilligan's Island after school, plus I Dream Of Jeannie, Mr. Ed, My Three Sons & a few o ther shows that I can't reme- mber off the top of my head.
According to Dawn Wells Gilligan's island was filmed inside the studio. The lagoon was a swimming pool made up to look like a beach. She had pointed out exactly where it was and how it's been filled in. She has never mentioned a "park" as far as I know.
Many others have said the same thing. Thanks for the update Kab. I appreciate it. Guess the Roadside America info is incorrect.
I have watched this video before, but with the recent passing of Dawn Wells, thought I would watch it again. I got to meet Dawn Wells two times. Once in the 80’s or early 90’s. Last time was in 2014. I went to a charity event to see Dawn Wells with my son. Just a few months before the event, I bought Dawn’s TV set that she used between takes of Gilligan’s Island off of her website. At the event, we arrived at the same time as Dawn, so I approached her in the parking lot. I told her that I bought her tv. She was so excited to meet me. Next thing you know, she invited me and my son to come with her in a room and we spent about 15 minutes with her, just Dawn, my son and myself. She called her manager and had me talk to him on the phone, because he sent the tv to me. What a fun and unexpected day we had with Dawn. She was so kind and that day we felt like we were the celebrities. Steve, if you care to see the tv and some of this experience, I have two videos on my channel. Some day Steve, you may be able to see her grave. I have a book of hers that shows her grave with her name on it, just needs the date on it. It is on a tombstone shared with her Mom. I thought I would let you know, so in the future maybe you can do a video on it. Also, you mention many times in your videos that there is no final resting place for many people. In Dawn’s case it appears that she will be buried alongside her Mom. Well, I just looked it up and her Mom is buried at a cemetery in Reno, Nevada.
Hey Steve, in 1979 I went to a boat show in LA and Alan Hale Jr was there dressed in character as The Skipper. He and I talked. he was so gracious. He was a big guy too! When he shook my hand his hand completely engulfed mine, but he was very gentle. We talked about his restaurant in LA (Skippers). He was a real pleasure to meet. Fun fact. One of Errol Flynn's closest friends was Alan Hale Sr. he appeared as a side kick to Errol in his early films, such as Little John in Robin Hood. I will never forget The Skipper!!!!!!
What a neat memory to have. Thanks for sharing it with us, Kevin!
Kevin Doran awesome so glad u shared ur memory with us thank u, I wish someone would do one on pumpkin Bruster I went school with her we was friends for sometime awesome know they others that met or knew some famous people
Little buddy!!
This is awesome. Thanks for sharing that memory. I loved the skipper and you could tell he was sweet in real life. So jolly.
I loved the skipper!!!👍I saw the cast on family feud years ago and he was such a nice guy!!!R.I.P to the cast!!!🙏🙏🙏
my Dad always said Tina Louise was the most beautiful woman on planet earth, so that why he named me after her , um his only child , I'm honored to be named after such a beautiful , elegant and classy, Hollywood star.💫💫💫💫💫🌌🌌🌌🌌🌌🌌🌌🌌🌌🌌🌌🌌🌌🌌
How cool. Thanks for sharing this with us Tina!
Dawn Wells was far more attractive than Tina Louise.
Tina is the only cast member left that's living.
Those were the days.... I absolutely loved Gilligans Island!! ❤️❤️
It's sad knowing they've practically all gone. Even great actors die like we all do but for some reason we want them to live forever. Guess they do in one way through these great shows & their legacies. How could we ever forget them or any of these iconic shows from the 1960's.
Nicely said Pike 👍
Mary Ann still looks good! Especially at her age.
May she rest in peace. She died December 30, 2020
Thanks Steve for this video. Too bad that Alan Hale Jr. doesn't have a final resting place. He's the one actor out of that great cast I wished I would have met.
Me too! Everyone who met him said he was really sweet and gentle. 😫😫😫...Okay, who put the bowl of onions in here??
What about bob Denver? I wish I could’ve met him he’s so cute and wonderful
Gilligans Island and Dark Shadows were my favs back in the day
Hurried home from school to watch Dark Shadows !
Went to the house where they shot the outside of dark shadows at really nice houe
@@leebest1a470 Ah, yes. Who can forget Barnabas Collins (Jonathan Frid) as the dashing, elegant vampire. I was in junior college when that show was broadcast and watched it every afternoon after classes. Barnabas climbed into his coffin for the last time on April 14, 2012 and I presume he is still there. RIP Jonathan.
Dark Shadows was the best. I too watched after school along with Speed Racer. The outside of Collinswood is in Newport. Haunted I hear.
I can relate!
Gillian’s Island has always been my most favorite tv show...been watching it since I was a child, and still do at 52.😍
It's timeless fun!
It is the longest lasting show on TV and has been in reruns since it was wrongly cancelled. God bless all of the cast and crew. May their sleep be wonderful.
that could be debatable, I Love Lucy has been running reruns on a full tank since the mid 50s 💝

I will never cease to be amazed at your ability to wake up early and drive from Palm Springs into Los Angeles. This is a very nice video with interesting locations. The freeway underpass with the paintings of Dick Clark and others looked very artistic. Thank you for your dedication to making these videos. They are always informative and entertaining. Be safe and be well.
LOL, I know, I should have been a farmer instead of a vlogger :-) Thanks, PC!
I watched it when I was a kid and still do i love that show.Thank you for the video.God bless you 🙏
Thanks for the flash back of Gilligan' s Island & The Brandy Bunch. ✌ OUT
Grew up watching Gillian's island & still watch the old reruns on Metv
The one face is Sly Stallone
bxktd 😂
Loved Gilligan's Island. Thanks for including Angelus Temple. My great Aunt Voilet was married there by Amiee Semple McPherson! My uncle Bob, and some of his daughters graduated from their college which is Life Bible College.
The Temple was almost demolished when a new pastor thought that would be a good thing to do. Fortunately it has been declared a historical landmark.
Several years ago the Temple went through a complete restoration. Amiee's son Rolf McPherson was still alive and was able to see it completed.
There's a lot of history about Amiee and Angelus Temple. Charlie Chaplin was a member of the church.
Wow, talk about living history. I’m glad someone stepped in to stop the demolition. It’s sad that some people just don’t have an interest in history. Thanks for sharing this with us Dale 😊👍
I still watch Gilligans Island from time to time. The woman to the left of Dick Clark is a dead ringer for Barbara Stanwick. Great video. Thanks Steve.
I'm surprised I didn't recognize her. I'll have to watch it again. Thanks TPR!
I literally grew up watching Gilligan's Island and The Brady Bunch. Loved them both. I also love Bewitched, I.Dream of Jeannie, It's About Time, and The Partridge Family. Those we're the best years of my life.
The Saturday morning cartoons of the day had my utmost attention, too.
Did you watch Nanny and the professor or Courtship of Eddies father??
@@robbk7099 I sure did and also, The Ghost and Mrs Muirer.
@@escotthollingsworth6074 yes!!! I still watch that on utube!
Also very memorable shows.
I just love Gilligans Island
RIP Dawn Wells "Mary Ann" 💔😭
Every single time that I see this program the theme song comes to my mind and I sing it perfectly without faults.
Please have a nice day today. ©®

Gilligans Island was my absolute favourite show as a child in Australia 🇦🇺 loved Gilligan my hero!
Thank you, I loved Gillian Island. Everyday after school I would watch Gillian Island at 4PM. I remember my mother asking me to eat my dinner but I wanted to finish watching Gillian Island.
My favorite Jim Backus role (after Mr. Howell) was his not quite cameo appearance in It's A Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World.
Another Jim Backus character: Mr. Magoo.
RIP all of cast. Except my loves...Ginger and Maryann. Tina Loiuse and Dawn Wells. The only two of the cast still around.
The ladyactress that played Mrs Howell on the show left her estate to marry Anne when she passed away.. Marry Ann took her in her house and took care of her when she got more older and sick
I read on the find a death page her home was torn down and shopping mall was built there and she died in the nursing home were impoverish actors live out their final days
Well, Dawn Wells just died today Dec. 30, 2020. She was 82
Thanks for the many great memories of a time long ago.
Thanks for watching Walton 😊👍

Hi Steve!
I've been to Echo Park & had know idea Gilligan's Island was filmed there!!!
I met Alan Hale...turned around & there he was standing nxt to me...i just about FAINTED!!! It was a long time ago at Los Alamitos Race Track...he was wearing his khaki pants "Skipper" Hat too!!! He was really nice & nice enough to Autograph my Race Track Program...
Family dinner time had to wait til 6:00...I can still her myself yelling bk at my mom, when Gilligan's Island is over!!!
This was one of my Favorite shows as a kid!!! As was the Brady Bunch too...
U always do the BEST Memory Lanes & have to add...ur filming is always Super Professional too!! Thanks Again Steve for all u share with us...always greatly appreciated!!!
Thanks Foldelops, I appreciate that. And what a great moment to remember. Thanks for sharing it with us!
It Wasn't...the dude's wrong
Ginger Elvira is correct. As were most of the 1960 televisions shows whether or not they were Universal Studio projects, Gilligan's Island was produced on the backlot at Universal Studios. Take the tour. It's fascinating You'll begin to recognize sets and facades all over the place. Look! There's the town square in "Back to the Future"! Look! There's Darin and Samantha's house! "Isn't that the Bate's Motel???"
Loved Gilligan's Island!
My favorite show back in the day loved it .Got lucky got Dawn Wells autograph at Stan's restaurant in Columbia Tenn around 1977 .
Awesome! Talk about a memorable encounter. Thanks for sharing it with us James 😊👍
How do I get a postcard?
Gilligans Island was one of my favorite TV shows while growing up in Texas back in the 1960s.
Loved Gillian's island. TY for your posts....
I love the old TV shows and movies. Another great video, Steve 💜 I love I Married Joan so much and it's hilarious 😆 Jim Backus will always be my favorite actor of the 50's and 60's May he and Joan Davis who died in 1961 and the rest of the cast of Gilligan's Island rest in peace 😢
Yes, and thanks, PGA!
I grew up watching both these shows.😊👋
I notice you are a travel vlogger too. I'll check out your videos later today, when I have time to watch. Thanks for sharing, FA!
Living in Australia it is a great way for me to see all this
Loved watching Gillians island great show
Thank you for this vlog very much appreciated. Yes I watched the show. The statue and church was very interesting to learn about.
Love the fun facts on the cast members as filming locations and resting spots great reviews !!! Great memories RIP
I live down the street a mile, in silverlake.. i go to that park from time to time. Whoppie doo!
It sure has been in a lot of movies and TV shows. Thanks for sharing with us Rudy 😊👍
@@TheGraveyardChannel hey anytime I can
I remember both shows and Mr McGoo. This was a great combo Steve of visiting the park where the series was filmed, followed by the final resting place of some who made the show possible. Thanks.
Thanks, Dwight!
I grew up watching Gilligan's island and it was a great show, I enjoy your videos 😍❤️💙 ♥️,.
Thanks Steve for this and the memories.

Rest in Peace Bob Alan Natalie Russell and Dawn you guys are all missed.
I got to meet Dawn Wells in garden grove at the strawberry festival. I have the picture on my wall she was so nice and talked to everyone. Rip
Wonderful fun shows . Growing up in the sixties in Canada , we only had 2 television stations CBC and CTV, but these 2 stations carried all the great shows.Thank you again Steve for your awesome video.
We only had 3 networks. Now we seem to have 3,000 channels. Kind of makes me miss just having 3 :-) Thanks for sharing that, Ward!
Dawn Wells 80.....that makes me feel old since I watched the original airings....
roger sowers I watched them too. She is just 7 yrs. older than me. Where has the time gone ?
I met Miss Wells in New York back in the mid 70's!!! I remember getting her autograph and a kiss😘!!!smh..time flies!!!😁
Me too!! And I am!
Thank you once again for an extremely informative video. You keep my interest up in every vlog. Awesome job!
thanks, bob!
My hearts does cry so badly, I missing them all who pass on,I am 36 and I still love watching gillian's island. I love you all .
Loved it. I also grew up watching Gilligan's Island and The Brady Bunch. I guess it's sort of sad that so many of them didn't leave a resting place for people to visit. I don't know if it was the case with any of these actors or not, but I have heard that many many actors died completely broke and didn't even have money to be buried. Thanks Steve ... for the trip down memory lane.
I think you're right. Especially for some of the lesser known character actors. Thanks, Tj
So interesting! Love your videos! 👍
Thanks, Carmen!
Thk u for explaining as you go along on your visits love it.
Love that show! Thanks for sharing.
Another outstanding and awesome 👍 video.
Thanks, Daymond!
So join us here each week my friends, your sure to get a smile, from 7 stranded castaways...here on Gilligans isle.
Thanks for the memories.
One of my favorite shows as a kid! What a beautiful location that is. I’ll have to visit it someday soon. 😊
I see Sage Stallone next to Dick Clark. I loved Gillian as a kid ❤️
Oh, I think you're right! Thanks, so much, Chiming In!
Thanks for the video, never knew the ship wreck was so close to down town and yet the professor still couldn't figure out how to get them off the island! P S, I also want to thank you for recommending "big Bill Andersons death tours" you both create some wonderful stuff to watch just before I start the day.
LOL, and I'm glad you enjoy Big Bill's channel too!
Thank you very much Mr Steve for this video!
Wow several of those cast members died Young, I used to watch the reruns of Gilligan's island a lot when I was a kid, in fact I had an inflatable raft I use to float on in my parents pool. And I had named it the minnow after the boat on the show, even had the name written on both sides of the bow and across the stern of the raft. And as for that location, I couldn't place it for anything. it looked more like a swamp then it did the lagoon on Gilligan's island.
I think the lake has become more of a wetlands over the decades and is probably very different. Great name for your floatie. Thanks for sharing, CJ
this is not where it was filmed. there is a Parking structer where the Lagoon was on the set. behind CBS soundstage 2
I seen that video also..I wonder who is right
Yes. They recently covered the area where the lagoon was. There was news coverage of it.
Hey guys, it could've been one of the filming sights though
They only had one lagoon filming are and it is a parking lot now. This is not it. The lagoon was behind studio 10 that is now studio 2.
It's no reason to be rude. You could both be right.life is short
Be nice.
Here's some food for thought, when I used to live in California years ago I work for Alan Hale the lobster Barrel on La Cienega Boulevard oh, and he was one of the nicest people you could ever meet. Let alone work for thought I'd let you know
that's really nice to hear, what a neat job. thanks, glenn
Thanks for sharing!
Nice to know he was as great away from the camera as on it!
God bless Alan Hale, Jr. !!!
Food for thought -nice pun there Glenn. I wonder what its called now or if its a parking lot? lol
Dawn Wells, what a beautiful lady, thankyou for the great role you played on an all time favorite "Gilligans Island "
RIP.
Loved that show, thanks 👍
Dude looks like Farmtruck from Street Outlaws.
Great video with interesting content. 😎👍
Gilligan's Island and The Brady Bunch are both good shows.
Gilligans island brings back memories. My favorite was ginger!
Thank you for your fun take on these yards 🌼
I'm wondering if the Spaceballs phrase " May Da Schwartz Be With You" might have been sort of a tribute besides not saying the force by Mel Brooks to Sherwood Schwartz.
Jim was also James Deans father! (Rebel without a Cause)
He was very memorable in that role. And he and Natalie Wood are now buried near each other. Thanks, I
Jim who was James Dean’s Father?
Amy Thomas, Jim Backus played James Dean's character's father in the movie "Rebel Without a Cause".
Thurston Howell III, was also Mr. MAGOO & in Mad, mad, world 🌎
Two shows I loved! Thank you!
This was so good. Thank you.
Most of the show was filmed at Studio city..the lagoon was built on the lot..and is now used as portables...the indoor and hut scenes were done in a studio Soundstage close to the lagoon.
The Lagoon is now used as portable what??

The art work under the bridge near Echo Park is Ruben Soto's "Eyes" mural! It has several people, including the late Dick Clark and actor Sylvester Stallone. It also features actor Sylvester Stallone son, the late Sage Stallone, who died in 2012 and who was also friends with the artist. Both of the Stallone images are on opposite sides of the street, where they're looking at each other. I also remember visiting the Island of Kauai, where Gilligan Island was shot and the area was called Moloa`a Beach. The pilot and the first episode was shot there. For more info on the "Eyes" Mural, check out this link

Suggestion Julie london and Bobby Troup if you havent already.
I did and if you search my channel you'll find that vlog. Thanks, Ilene.
I believe Tina Louise and Dawn Wells are the only 2 of the 7 still alive..
Believe and knowing are two seperate words and verbs.
The word "believe" indicates that you are uncertain of it while "knowing" indicates that it is factual.
Dawn wells just died of covo -19 today
Your belief was correct until yesterday when Dawn Wells died from Covid 19 complications. Tina Louise is the only surviving cast member, and she's 89 years old.
