- I hate Klons... change my mind Warm Audio Centavo
I have never been a fan of these types of mid boosting circuits. Maybe I just haven't tried the right one?!

Bro I was taught to dial in a super clean amp first then add…After hearing the difference when you added a little to the Bassman had inspired me to try a different direction. Pedal came alive
AWESOME! So glad to have been able to help.
All I could afford was a Soul Food and now you've given me some insight as to how I should be using it. Thanks, Steve.
Thanks John! Glad to help
When you talk about hitting the front end of the amp with more output to get that nice compression I love that. I use an old DOD Bi-Fet Pre Amp, and it sounds so good in this application.
Thats the way to do it!!
Nice work. I got one as well, and it sounds great. I was fortunate enough to play through the real thing on a friend's rig, and it's really tight. Now I have two good clones, the Centavo and the Tumnus. This is a great alternative to someone who can't afford or (like me) doesn't want to spend the overhyped money on one from the 90's. Good video. Love the Les Paul. I'm an Gibson guy myself, so I hope to have found a kindred spirit. Nice job.
This is the video I didn’t know I need. It helps me understand how to dial things in better! Thank you!!!
Thanks for checking it out! Glad to have helped
I played a jazz/blues gig with a borrowed amp - '67 BF Super Reverb - and stuck a Rocket Archer (silver) in front of the amp with the gain around 10-11 o'clock: best edge of breakup tone I've ever had with that strat. I was sold after that.
that's the prettiest LP I've ever seen 😍
Thanks! I'm lucky to own it
That Klon sounds amazing! 1st tone and 6:37...take my money!
You need one!
I would love a comparison with the built-in Minotaur? In other words, can't you really do what you need with what's already in the Helix that you have with you everywhere you go anyway?
Thank you for using a Les Paul instead of a Strat for this demo. Nice change from almost every other Klon or “Klone”
Thanks! I hate strats 😒😒
I run a centavo with an LP and I love it. Thanks for the video.
I use mine in conjunction with a TS808, the Centavo just to warm up the amp and keep me on the edge of breakup and the 808 to push me into more driven sounds. I like amp distortions not pedal sounds so hitting the preamp tubes a little harder with the master volume up cooking the power tubes.
The Centavo pushes a cleaned up Marshall nicely.
I run Les Pauls with lower output PAF clones.
Nice set up and insight!
@@SteveSterlacci the tones of that Tele though are great in the video.
Thanks so much Greg!
The tonality of the Centavo doesn’t really work for me as an overdrive in my current setup, but I do use it as a ‘clean’ boost at the end of my pedal chain to polish off my delay and reverb sounds, with improved results. Definitely something to hold on to. ❤️
Whatever gets the job done!
Thanks for this video Steve. My only Klon experience is the Minotaur in Helix. I’ve never heard of a Klon before I started watching Helix videos. I always try to put it in my patches because I’ve heard so much about it, but maybe it’s just not for me 😂
I have had a few "mid boost" pedals that I just never liked. Even minotaur I RARELY use in Helix... but... this pedal sounds something different! Let me know what you think after
@@SteveSterlacci this video is great. Definitely speaks volumes for this pedal. Hate to keep bringing it back to Helix, but do you know if they Gain getting on the Minotaur works the same as this pedal, a mix between clean and dirty?
Not a Klon guy either but LOVE my Centavo.
Bro, the very first tone you got into was killer. It's ok to change your mind.
Thanks man! This absolutely changed my mind. It was a much sweeter and less harsh sounding one than I've ever tried. Glad I gave it a shot and proved me wrong 🤘🤘🤘
I like what it does with the Tele. With humbuckers it seems like every other drive on the planet.
I’d like to hear it with a Strat.
I am a notorious strat hater 😅 I hate playing them
@@SteveSterlacci , that’s ok, we still like ya!
@@SteveSterlacci Its either u like Paulas or Strats u cant love them both i guess :D
@@danielfritz954 I love them both, but for different reasons.
@@danielfritz954 je les aiment tous les deux aussi ....j ai decouvert la les paul ....que je n aimais pas ....mais a present je l aimes autant que la stratocaster
Les Paul classic? That's an absolutely beautiful finish.
Now this will be interesting. I’m in the same boat on Klons
Let me know your thoughts after!
Nice looking and sounding LP. I'm more of a Strat & Tele player but I like that LP. Id love to see how it feels because it looks great
Thanks! Its probably my favorite ive ever played. Lucky to have it
Very nice demo, you use a Warm audio WA273 EQ but this unit is a preamp and the Captor X is also a preamp so 2 preamps ? are you able to bypass the the preamp section of the WA and use it just as EQ ? I guess you go to an interface after the WA copmpressor ? very interesting video about what you can do after the Captor X which is a great tool but not as good as a real speaker, thanks
Hey COX. I don't consider the captor x as a mic pre amp. It is only an XLR out. There are a lot of outboard options in the software but I prefer the mic preamp
While I do like this pedal, and what it does to the amp, I have to say that I like Josh's, and Brian's (Tumnus), pedal just a bit more. It's probably because I like smaller pedals on my board.
I havent tried their versions, but I am sure theyre great!
Tumnus does sound really good! So does Sugar Drive from MXR. I was going to get that after I grabbed the MXR Timmy and absolutely loved it, but after I heard about the Centavo I knew I was going to get it instead. I love Warm Audio, they make incredible gear at great prices, and I have their clone of the Foxx Tone Machine, the Foxy Tone Box, and I absolutely love that pedal. But Tumnus sounds really good and has a unique character to the gain structure, I really enjoy that and might grab it eventually
I thought a Klon style circuit was supposed to be THE transparent over drive.
It adds a mid hump for sure. High gain guys used to like it cause theyd be able to hear themselves better since it cuts their low end
That’s a beautiful LP Classic. How’d you find one with such a great top? Looks great!
Thanks! I found it on reverb and got it recently. Its a '92
I like the variety of overdrive and distortion sounds we have available in the HX Stomp. The Klon and it's many clones have a nice sound, but not worth the hype. 🤷
Great video!! Minataur sounds good too..
I like the sound, but not the pedal real estate - it's too big. Hope they will release a smaller version at some point.
Just get a Tumnus, Soul Food, J Rocket Archer or any other klone in a smaller enclosure. This pedal is for those that want the authentic experience which means the fat enclosure.
How does it compare with Minotaur (Line6) ?
Thats coming soon! Gonna side by side a bunch of pedals with their hx counter parts. I dont have a ton of experience using the hx version into a real amp since I always used the hx amp models.
It’s okay Steve, I hate LP’s.
That's it. Get out....
@@SteveSterlacci you’re so cruel when you’re sober😉
@@nigeldaddyo 🥴🥴🥴
I hate Klon because I sold mine serial #177 for $600 before the Klon thing happened
Ouch!!!! Sorry for your loss
thanks for using a tele
I’m not a Klon fan either. I just don’t think it’s the greatest thing ever
I just don’t like the 5k+ klons lol
Yes that too!
Just go into amp without all the sucking sound gear ?
What does this translate to in simple terms?
Plug into the amp or go back too school @@SteveSterlacci
@rareform6747 sir, this is a pedal demo, and all amps need a way to get into the computer whether you believe it or not. If you do decide to educate yourself on recording equipment, you will understand. Speaking of going back to school, you should definitely not be preaching with how you are typing here... GREAT talk, though 🙄
@@rareform6747 bomb attitude, brother! You sound super cool!
Most overrated pedal ever
