You know, the Republicans sort of have a point in saying that it is not too much to ask all the members of the House Judiciary Committee to stand up each day in front of the cameras, place their hand over their heart, and show the American people that they love the US by pledging allegiance to its flag.
That pledge was, of course, written by a Socialist, so it's good to see that the Republicans are now coming to their senses and finally embracing socialist thinking in their governing philosophy.
In fact, I would go a step further and require that every member on that House committee also be required to carry with them a small US flag, say the size of a pocket handkerchief, and that while reciting the pledge of allegiance they must pull that flag out of their pocket and hug it closely to their chest.
That would sure show the American people who really, really loves America and who doesn't.
I'd rather they abide by their oath of office rather than standing up and "performing" the pledge or their oaths while not meaning a word of either.

The Flag is just our team banner. Pledging allegiance to a flag is like pledging allegiance to a president. It's not something we should be doing. The pledge of allegiance isn't mentioned in the Constitution because it didn't exist when the Constitution was written.
The national anthem is beautiful powerful and emotive. It's not mentioned in the Constitution either.
Once again neither is God.
A pledge to uphold and defend the Constitution which is the bedrock that our country was built on and the law of the land would be much more appropriate. I guess since it doesn't mention God you're afraid of that.

I remember each day school reciting, " The Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag. " School was official after the pledge and we students began work on our futures. As kids I don't think in some way we felt the same about our country after being told the pledge wasn't a requirement anymore. The major question in class was why would Americans want to ever stop reciting something which brought pride about living in the greatest country on Earth?

People need to respect the USA again (as they did just 2 years ago), and they should respect the flag and what it stands for.. Stop the BS. Oaths of office need to be legally-binding with very strict penalties (not monetary) for violating the same. Any bills introduced need to be concerning ONE subject (no more hiding garbage in something everyone wants). And before being sworn in, they need to demonstrate a working knowledge of the Constitution.

My French tutor is from Haiti. He immigrated to Brazil then Portugal. He's talked about immigrating to Ireland, other countries, but he has specifically said he has no desire to immigrate to the US. What about the many Americans who have immigrated to other countries and have no desire to return to the US. I myself, native born American, lived abroad for 25 years in many different countries and I can assure you I met people dying to immigrate to the US and those with no interest whatsoever in immigrating to the US . Some other countries, yes. People are diverse in their thoughts. Putting them all in the same box doesn't work for many things; this is one of them. Maybe I should put you in the box with people who just love to exaggerate.

Actually, I think what McCarthy agreed to in the rules for this Congress should help in that regard. If anybody wants to replace the speaker of the house, representatives will want to be there to stop it from happening or to make it happen. I think they did away with proxy votes, too. There's no way to make sure that they actually pay attention to what's going on in the room, but forcing them to be present is a first step.
What's not forget with mr. Cicilline said about 6 months ago about our gun rights and he doesn't give a damn about our constitutional rights

I agree with you about much of what you wrote. I too said the pledge in Grade School, and I was on the safety patrol that helped kids cross the street and put up and took down the flag. I got in trouble one day when the flag touched the ground during a rainstorm. I am also a veteran. The pledge of Allegiance, as well as the oath to office is sacred to me. If I have an issue with the pledge, it is that they politicized it back in the 50's during the communist scare to include "under God". They did not need to go there. I would rather recite the original version without regard to a person's religion. You can be American without pledging allegiance to a particular God.

I feel that they should recite their oath of office as well as the pledge as a regular reminder that they have taken the oath as a part of them accepting the position they were elected to, and they should be legally bound to following the oath (I had thought that they were bound by law to follow the oath but few look at it that way).

I'm 75 and I said the pledge of allegiance throughout my childhood school experience and never thought anything bad of it . If anything it made me feel connected to my classmates and teachers in a special way . What's happened to solidarity and unity since then ? Reciting the pledge of Allegiance would in effect be like saying a prayer or doing a meditation. It focuses your intent and puts everyone in the same space of mindfulness. I think it would be a good and honorable tradition to add. I'm actually surprised it was not being done before now.

You know, the Republicans sort of have a point in saying that it is not too much to ask all the members of the House Judiciary Committee to stand up each day in front of the cameras, place their hand over their heart, and show the American people that they love the US by pledging allegiance to its flag.
That pledge was, of course, written by a Socialist, so it's good to see that the Republicans are now coming to their senses and finally embracing socialist thinking in their governing philosophy.
In fact, I would go a step further and require that every member on that House committee also be required to carry with them a small US flag, say the size of a pocket handkerchief, and that while reciting the pledge of allegiance they must pull that flag out of their pocket and hug it closely to their chest.
That would sure show the American people who really, really loves America and who doesn't.

I noticed that also. If I remember correctly, Johnson was the guy who stated that if we stationed more troops on Guam, the island would tip over (& he was actually serious). The Dems argument against Gaetz's motion was that all congressmen already say the pledge at the beginning of each session on the House floor. Gaetz's was requesting that these committee members say the pledge again at the start of their meetings.

I'm really surprised that one of the Republicans at the hearing didn't just get up, face one of the flags and start reciting the pledge of allegiance, you know, to see who would also stand up and join in with him.
Here, all the American people will know whether their congressmen or congresswomen representing their states are serving their constituents with true loyalty to America.
