Just a note US buyers, the Oskar Atlantic and Lilyvale are different shelves. Lillyvale seems to be better. Oskar atlantic has the blurays stick out over the edge a bit.

Hi Elliot just wanted to say thank you for this video! I have just bought a new house and needed shelves for my blu ray collection! These will be getting ordered very soon! Thank you again! :)
The shelving unit arrived with supersonic speed and I have just finished assembling it. I’m not a DIY expert and it was a bit fiddly but didn’t take me long. It seems pretty robust and looks good. I got the black one that can hold 528 DVD’s so I will be mixing DVD and Blu-ray’s in. Now for the best part where I get to scoop the stacks of discs up off the floor and curate them on the shelves. Thanks for making the video Elliot.
I custom build my own media shelves. I still think that's the best solution, at least for me, because by doing that there's no compromise involved. When looking for shelves I would always find a couple of things I didn't like or design features that were not ideal for my purpose, so I decided to go the DIY route. I added all the things I wanted to the design and I made the shelves floor-to-ceiling, so there's room for so many movies. There's some woodworking and painting involved, but if you are crafty enough you can get some good results (and save some money, too)
You may want to update this video as the quality has gone way down on these since you made this video. The adjustable shelves are now much thinner. They used to be 15mm as sown in your video to only 9mm. They main sides and top shelves are still 15mm but of a very poor quality "wood". Also the sides are not one piece but several stacked and joined pieces. This makes the shelving unit less sturdy. I am still searching for replacements to house my CD/DVD/BluRay collections.
Have 3 of these shelves, 2 for Blu-rays and 1 for CDs, and they're definitely recommended. If I could change one thing, it would be to make the pegs flat on one side so they were flush with the shelf. They get in the way with those boxsets that are slightly taller than regular cases. Apart from that, perfect 👌
These are the perfect depth, indeed! I'm looking at precisely the Billy shelves as well, because I can't have those you linked shipped to me. Other than about 10cm of extra depth, it satisfies other requirements, like similarly adjustable height of shelves throughout, and iKea sells extra shelves separately. Plus it can have glass doors, which seems necessary in my environment 'cause of excessive dust. I thought I'd just place some editions, and boxsets, in front of the rows for display.
Great video. 👍 10 years ago, I came across some 5/8" thick, 8" deep, 2ft and 4ft white melanine laminated boards at a local Lowes hardware store. I bought a bunch of these boards to make (4) 24"x48" shelf units which I stacked as 2 stacks floor to ceiling for all our DVDs. Recently, I decided to remodel our family room and redo these shelves into a single 15ft, 2Ft high wall unit direct under a wall that holds my projector screen, finished off with a 15ftx12"x2" thick mantle from left over Pergo laminated floor over 2" high density foam base. The result is outstanding, and my DVDs look flush with a bit of front shelf gap, but similar to your video, except mine looks like a custom cabinet and I have my sound bar right on top of the mantle. Hi Elliot! These shelves look very nice! I currently have Ikea Billy shelves currently and I agree the overhang is a bit extreme. But I will say for my current living situation it works out well because I can stack blu-rays two deep so that I don't have to buy more shelves until I move!!
I’m very happy with my BR/DVD shelves, but yours are my target from now on as they are the best in the RUclips game. it's like a classic books library showing how cultured you are ;). I just wished they go until the ceiling to be absolutely perfect !
Great video Elliot, thank you. Shelves now on the shopping list. Need to declutter the attic next! OT, hoping that certain Kubrick film comes out on 4k at some point (if only to please you). You can certainly spend my money, recently upgraded to an Oppo 203 so I can get my Criterion A's.
Currently using Ikea Billy - the extra depth is annoying, but they have one massive plus point for me - timber and glass doors on the front. I live in a Queenslander (timber house, designed to basically leave all the doors and windows open for about 8 months a year), so the doors make managing the dust so much easier. Would love a version of your shelves that could have doors...
I actually really like these. For people who collect and dont do wood work these are totally amazing for. I am making my own shelves though that circle my room perfect with built in tv spot as well. And my shelves can be resized lol
I have been using a couple of Billy bookcases with extra shelves for years. The extra depth space is annoying, but I do use them for a few other items on the top and bottom shelves which make up for it. These look like a great replacement though for in the future when my current ones fall apart as long as I can get them in Australia for a decent price.
I have a mix of Blu Ray discs (shorter case) and DVD discs (taller case). I am keeping my legacy DVDs without plans to replace. I know the shelves can be adjusted to accomodote DVD's. I'm wondering if you have an idea of how many shelves I will lose, if I mix my DVD's and Blu Rays together (which will require planning for taller shelving cubbies)?
Thanks Elliot ... I have been looking for a storage solution for awhile ... they are available in Canada too ... I ordered maple which is my favourite finish ... excited to finally have all my CDs/Blu Ray/4K discs in one place :)
Thanks! Just bought the single option because I've just started my collection and the three would be overkill for now, but also because I live in a small apartment in nyc so it should be great.
These look really nice. It's exactly what I'm looking for. I hate when shelves are too deep and push the book or bluray or whatever too far back and it looks stupid. These seem to fit the bluray perfectly.
You can actually build your own shelves for surprisingly little money (like this: ruclips.net/video/H7ACX0wBzis/видео.html). I built two shelves that fit about 1000 (rough estimation) DVDs and Blu Rays for 20 €. Sure, they do not looks as nice as the ones Elliot uses but I think they present the DVDs quite well and that's what it's all about :).
Great video! You really went in depth and there’s nothing about this video that felt padded. I’m definitely gonna pick these up some day when I move and have more space.
Not gonna lie, when I first found your channel, the first thing I noticed about your videos were the shelves lol Does that sound as shallow as I think it does? Edited to add: "Totally random film I just pulled out there" Suuuuuuuuure, Elliot :P Barry Lyndon strikes again!
Not shallow at all. My shelves in the background is 95% of why people probably watch my videos. It can't be because I'm saying much of worth, that's for sure 😁

I have 3-4x more CD's as you and a big problem, i don't know what to do. I need 3 rooms for that 🤔I've done something similar to you before, but the problem is dust, I'm thinking of doing something similar to yours again, but with a glass door, so that dust doesn't get inside, I'd just have to make more small shelves, how could be opened and closed normally. Now I have another additional problem, I'm slowly switching to 4k. I used to have over 4,000 VHS video tapes, when I switched to DVD, I threw them all in the trash, I just collected all those DVDs, and then Blu-Ray came out, I just about collected it all, and now it's out and 4k. I invested so much money in that shit, I must have given a good three-room apartment and a good car for those things, and I don't even know how much I'll give in the future. This is a very expensive hobby and I advise anyone who is thinking about something like this to stop immediately. Because the problem is that once you get hooked, you can't stop, because always and always something new comes out, and you just pay and pay, it never ends. The problem is when you have over 50-100 CDs, then you want more and more, I don't listen to half of them, but I have to have them for the sake of a crappy collection.
I have a big collection but I never got onto the hamster-wheel of endlessly upgrading stuff I already had once I had it on DVD. VHS I replaced, because it's a horrible format really, clunky, heaby, poor quality and the tapes snarl or break or whatever. But DVD is fine, I feel no need to upgrade constantly to the latest. In fact, DVD is still my go-to for most things. I'll get a bluray if it's only out on bluray, or on eof a handful of things I really want the best possible quality for.
Absolutely brilliant video, thank you so much, I have been watching your videos for a while now so envious of your shelving. You sir are an absolute legend. I just have to rearrange some picture frames to get the height. 👍👊
Great breakdown of your setup Elliot! If I hadn't built my own shelves, this is absolutely what I'd buy. Especially for someone who has maybe a little too much in their collection 😅 Great stuff my friend.
I came across your video and was curious as to what you consider to be the perfect shelves. I was surprised and delighted to find out that we both have the same favorite shelving unit! These are THE BEST for all types of films. I have four of these units with mostly blu-rays and 4k films as well, but they even hold the occasional rare VHS incredibly well also.
I bought some like these years ago on eBay in Australia. It says Made in China on the box, so they're knockoffs, but they appear to be exactly the same as what I see here - structurally at least. I agree that they're possibly the ultimate shelves for collectors, and want to buy some more. I hope I can find authentic ones, though!
I also use the Billy bookcase for my video games but you end up having barely enough room to double stack your games, or just too much space to put other things in front.
The Billy is too deep for me, very nice, a lot of hype, but by far too deep to make all your walls Billy. Blue Ray would not work for Billy. Way too deep and a waste of floor space.
@@YowzoeNot rubbish, not quite genius but certainly a very good quality, sturdy and good looking unit. I have a mixture of VHS, DVD and Blu-Ray stored in it and there is no evidence of any splintering or bowing and it’s almost full. Only problem now of course is I have space in it for about 40 more discs/tapes so I will defo have get another one or stop buying films on physical media but that is NOT going to happen!
Did the design for these change at all? The ones in the video, the shelf is flush with the front. The one I looked at on Amazon, the shelf is not as deep.
I know this video is old but I'm looking for new options. Can you go from top to bottom and have every row occupied with Blu-rays? One issue I've always had with adjustable shelves is the spacing ends up being uneven where one row ends up being too short to fit everything.
Grey video mate. Thanks for sharing! I’m currently renovating my cinema room after getting my projector set up, and I’ve had to figure out a whole new shelving system. I’ve ended up choosing to make my own, but I do love your set up 👍🏻👍🏻 take care buddy 💿💿
I bought the Billy bookcase and it’s way too much for what I need, and you right about how DVD’s fit in them, wish I would have done my homework before hand.
Thanks for sharing this. The space efficiency is a big draw but I have a couple of reservations: The “wood” you speak of is particle board. It is brittle and if struck on an edge or corner will mushroom and cannot be repaired. Furniture made of particle board cannot survive being moved more than a couple times before it falls apart. It’s flimsy, disposable trash. Also formaldehyde, a carcinogen, is used to hold the wood particles together . The foot at the base, there for balance I gather, is also extremely ugly. But I’m inspired to make something of similar dimensions from quality materials.
Ellliot dont know if ull see this comment but i took my shelves (similar to urs) and put bed risers underneath them to lift them 6 inches off the ground. The risers r pyramid shaped but flat on top and bottom (naturally) but flipped them upsidedown so the wider end is touching the shelves. So a set of 4 risers per shelving unit lifts them off thr ground and looks surprisingly good.
For the US links, you did the Oskar 1080 for the maple and the Oskar 756 for the Espresso, and those aren't the same sizes. Which one is closer to the one you have?
Hey I really like these book shelves, but I have some retro cartridges and DS boxes that may be half the size of a regular shelf. Do you know where I can buy extra loose shelves to perfectly fit these games?

Excelente. Muchas gracias por el video. Saludos desde Costa Rica 🇨🇷
These are all made in China too, as far as I'm aware. The build quality is great and they're very affordable!
Billy Bookcase from IKEA with extra shelves seems like a better version of this. Not broken up every 12" or so and very sturdy.
Billy is in no way as good as his set up.
Billy is more hype.
Thanks for this media storage solution. On your recommendation I’ve just ordered a unit. If it’s rubbish it’s down to you 😊
How was it? Rubbish or genius?
@@YowzoeNot rubbish, not quite genius but certainly a very good quality, sturdy and good looking unit. I have a mixture of VHS, DVD and Blu-Ray stored in it and there is no evidence of any splintering or bowing and it’s almost full. Only problem now of course is I have space in it for about 40 more discs/tapes so I will defo have get another one or stop buying films on physical media but that is NOT going to happen!
Very informative! I think I will get the one for CDs
Did the design for these change at all? The ones in the video, the shelf is flush with the front. The one I looked at on Amazon, the shelf is not as deep.
GREAT suggestion
Been looking for something for my gaming collection.
Peace ✌
Will these shelves fit steelbooks? All mine have plastic protectors.
Yes my shelves fit steel books
I have the same set of shelves only difference is that mine are black - they're excellent.
Hi mate, been lolling for some blu ray shelving myself and these sound perfect but they’re unavailable on Amazon when I click the links 😏
Brilliant 😊
I know this video is old but I'm looking for new options. Can you go from top to bottom and have every row occupied with Blu-rays? One issue I've always had with adjustable shelves is the spacing ends up being uneven where one row ends up being too short to fit everything.
Hi. Yes the spacing is completely even for shelf height perfect for a blu ray case. There’s no wasted space when doing it at this height.
As a serious personal librarian I can't see an organizational system, except for size. What am I missing?
Grey video mate. Thanks for sharing! I’m currently renovating my cinema room after getting my projector set up, and I’ve had to figure out a whole new shelving system. I’ve ended up choosing to make my own, but I do love your set up 👍🏻👍🏻 take care buddy 💿💿
What are these ones called ?
Looking in Canada
Thanks for the Video! How many Blu-Rays fit in each shelf?
You can fit 20 blu-rays in each rectangular section, and there are 30 sections, therefore they fit about 600 blu-rays.
Great vid, Elliot! Thanks for the info...
Does anybody know if these will be back in stock on Amazon sometime? :)
I bought the Billy bookcase and it’s way too much for what I need, and you right about how DVD’s fit in them, wish I would have done my homework before hand.
In one shelf unit , how many Blu-ray I can keep !
Thanks for this In depth review of these shelves. Can you get them in black as well and also what is the exact width and height please?
Thank you for making this video. I think shelves should also have glass doors.0
Thanks for sharing this. The space efficiency is a big draw but I have a couple of reservations:
The “wood” you speak of is particle board.
Thank You for this post. This is very helpful for me in trying to figure out what storage system to use. M K
That sounds amazing, thanks for the tip, Vernon!
For the US links, you did the Oskar 1080 for the maple and the Oskar 756 for the Espresso, and those aren't the same sizes. Which one is closer to the one you have?
Oh sorry! The 1080 one is roughly the size I have!
Can you measure the depth of your shelves? I think the company redesigned the shelf slightly, but kept the same Amazon item.
Hey I really like these book shelves, but I have some retro cartridges and DS boxes that may be half the size of a regular shelf. Do you know where I can buy extra loose shelves to perfectly fit these games?
How did you find all four House movies on Blu-Ray? I've only ever found the first one, and occasionally the second.
Great shelves shame they don't come in smaller increments can't quite fit 2 in my office.
whats the diff between these and media tower elite?
