To Luna’s framing of civil rights - “The south” is not a country nor did it represent a majority of Americans. The democratic majority of Americans supported the civil rights act and voted for pro-civil rights politicians. It was explicitly BECAUSE of democracy that segregation was ended.
Wrong. It was justified because of the PRESSURE of loads of populist, worker and civil rights movements in the country. That's why the intelligence and police state crushed them all. Do you know how UNPOPULAR even MLK was in the country at the time? He had less than a a 50% approval rating.
That, plus our inability to coalesce amongst the different factions to attain any sort of real material gains whatsoever have been the worst and most crippling tendencies across the left that I can think
It is a trait of the authoritarian mind to think of ideas only as essentially tied to the name of an individual - as if an idea is given essential character by its inevitable descent from a Great Man. There's no difference between how Luna Oi talks about Ho Chi Minh or Marx, and how Charlie Kirk talks about John Money as the "inventor" of "trans ideology".

Let me know when Western “Leftists” (such as yourself), will promote the first “successful” “Socialist” “Revolution”, *by not addressing* the history of Class Struggle. @@atm1947 My comment was dumber than you think haha. And sorry for the overtly long answer lol. If you look at the foundation of the social sciences you have psychology. If you look at the foundation of psychology you find neurology (biology in other words). If you look at the foundation of biology you find chemistry. If you look at the foundation of chemistry you find physics. The laws of thermodynamics and Newton's laws of motion, which are first just the same things viewed from two different perspectives, are two scientific definitions of causality. Everything happens for a reason. Just basic assumptions you have to assume are true when doing science. These principles adapt to what ever form of physics you apply it to. Thermodynamics in plasma physics is vastly different to that of an ideal gas. Still same underlying principles. So technically Newton's laws of motion applies to all fields of science. The laws of thermodynamics are the statistical versions of Newton's laws of motion. But it is just the physics equivalent of saying "everything happens for a reason".
Well depends what laws are we talking about. Quantum mechanics, no. Law of equilibrium and thermodynamics does actually. You sociology majors simply don't understand it
Yep, though it is absolutely justified to be against western "Democracy" since power isn't centered to the people. I am critiquing it from the left though, not from the right like Luna. A few certain things should be limited though to a democracy of technical, scientific and mathematical experts though to functionally run a society.
@@GalacticNovaOverlord A democracy of experts is not a thing... Democracy means "rule of the people", so "rule of the people of the experts" is nonsensical. What you mean is "rule of the experts", ie. a technocracy. Or a "rule of the best", ie. an aristocracy. Both are terrible, because it allows for unchecked corruption. Democracies work, because the people serve as a check against corruption. The people can also become corrupt (see America), but it is much harder to corrupt millions of people than a few hundred of experts. Lenin tried a "rule of the best" and it was a disaster. Technocracies and aristocracies always devolve into fascism.
@@thesecond4767 Yes, that can happen and in America it is happening right now and on an even worse level in the past. There is no system that cannot become corrupted, but democracies tend to be harder to corrupt than technocracies or aristocracies, simply because of the number of people involved and the consequential importance for a rule of law. The less people are in power, the less important the rule of law is. Feudalism (ie. Aristocracy) had no rule of law, laws were just made up on the spot by the ruling elite. The rule of law is what in the end is stopping (or hindering) the majority to just lynch a bunch of minorites. It is not perfect, but obviously better than the known alternatives.

Not gonna lie, the way she talks about “developing” and “discovering” these concepts like they’re natural laws of physics really scares me. It sounds exactly like the stories my mom has about living in ML Czechoslovakia, where party officials always explained contradictions and authoritarianism by saying “society is developing” and that all of that was necessary to promote that dialectical development. It’s open-minded, academic soft-sounding language weaponised to justify complete bullshit and simple greed and power.
Well, she's right Marx didn't invent dialectical materialism he analyzed and contributed to the knowledge that has been developing for over a thousand years. Society is always developing. Stephen Jay Goud a biologist wrote about how to apply dialectical materialism to the hard and social sciences
I´l take a hard guess and say it because it´s the same. I´m a leftist myself, but tbh sometimes I can really understand why people dislike socialism. Because when you see countries who called themselves socialist and are like that, what would you think?
They're related concepts, and Marx was actually influenced by philosophical materialists (after all he literally wrote his dissertation on the Difference Between the Democritean and Epicurean Philosophy of Nature), but the two theories are obviously not the same, and they serve completely different purposes.
@@donaldhysa4836 philosophical materialism is the view that the universe is a purely physical system, with no supernatural elements. I have a great admiration for Ho Chi Minh. He wasn’t perfect by any means, but he fought tirelessly for the independence of the Vietnamese people. That’s admirable just on its own.

I will never buy this idea that MLs always try to push that Lenin just so happens to be ultimate logical conclusion of Marx and Engels's writings and everything after him is "revisionism."
Yeah, I've been reading a bit of ML lately And yeah, it's like, Lenin is the logical continuation of Marx, if you deviate much from that you're a revisionist, but if you're an orthodox Marxist you're ALSO a revisionist XD Then again, I also like some ML on RUclips, even if I don't like the leftist infighting (from Vaush or these people or others)
I just cannot grasp Luna Oi's definition of dialectical materialism, it's completely incoherent and nonsensical and I think if I was able to ask her that question she would be unable to give an actual definition and instead would start going off about some completely incoherent shit for 35 minutes straight
Absolutely. I've argued with noncompete about this. Finally I found some obscure Marxist who wrote about Dialectical Materialism in Cartesian terms that I could understand, and quoted that to him and he had no idea what it was talking about. I mean that's fine, I don't expect everyone to know philosophy, but you maybe should if you're trying to sell everyone on your epistemology.

I’m sorry… *You didn’t cite a proper example of D.M. at work either…* Your point? A perfect example is Capitalism (Private Ownership over the means of production), using Racism, Sexism, and other class divides to exploit the masses. Then Fascism (a means of governance), sweeps across Europe, Japan, Southeast Asia, and the Americas - as a means *to protect* Capitalist interests. Either via overthrow of prior governments (France, Nazi German, Norway, Sweden, etc.) Absolutism (the United States and Canada, post-WII), or client state coups [*Insert Latin/South American and/or Southeast Asian country here.*] But hey, I’m certain the Indian population (*serving the Nazis*) would have faired better than under the British (who’s Prime Minister thought of them as a “Beastly people with a Beastly religion”, condemning a population to starve to death in 1942…) But hey, “MuH HoloDomOr!” am I right? History isn’t Black and White. Vaush (and people like yourself), ought to know that. But *unlike you…* I don’t think Vaush cares about learning FROM history. (But what do you expect from a guy that repeats Nazi propaganda when it comes to the Soviet Union and *uncritically* supports a Nazified Ukraine?) I mean, if he supports U.S. Military supremacy (against China), then CLEARLY he must know *why* the Chinese populace elect members - based on merit (and not campaign promises), or why Russia *doesn’t trust* the West when it comes to Peace Talks, right? (See? I’m providing EXAMPLES of Dialetical Materialism at work.) “Things happen, THEREFORE, we get results. Now, we must learn *why* they happened in the first place, in order to prevent these horrendous mistakes in our next attempt at changing human society.” Let me know when you finally get past the initial hurdle of “Why do “Leftists” (like Vaush), *keep repeating Nazi propaganda,* when it comes to talking about Socialism and the Soviet Union?” I’m certain you’ll figure THAT out. Vietnam is closer to socialism than the United States, witch is a surveillance state, a "country" that is builded on the genocide of native americans, industrialized by the kidnapping and enslavement of black people, have the most powerful military industrial complex and have a brainwashed population of 70+ years of Goebbels' media propaganda.
you can see the fascist tendancies when Luna Oi describes "harmony" as a central characteristic of "democracy". The necessity to homogonise (and by extension repress all that is considered alien) and subordinate the broader society to the state to exist under a system of "unity" and "harmony" is core to the fascising aspects of capitalism.
I really don't understand how she's able to get away with just pretending concepts mean things they don't mean while presenting herself as an educational channel. It takes so little effort to just look these concepts up and realize she's explaining them incorrectly.
That’s because you’re not Leftists. Never were. You’re just pretending to be such, but as soon as SHE comes onto your screens, you suddenly reveal your Closet-Nazi mindsets, and foam at the mouth, hoping to start another Vietnam War again. (But use excuses like “Freedom”, “Democracy”, or some other shit.)
Okay, someone correct me if I'm wrong on this, but isn't Democratic Centralism basically where you have a one party state and the only people who get to vote are bureaucrats or people who are party members, but you call it like "The Workers Party" or "The People's Party" or something like that?
The idea is (i think) that once descisions are made by the party (in theory these are made democratically by the membership of the "worker's party" in a "party congress", in practice usually by a single leader or an elite), they are binding on all party members and no one may publically disagree with it
According to what Luna Oi said, it's when everyone contributes but then respects the decision once it is made. So basically just normal democracy in which people also respect the democracy.
“Our system is all about forced compliance and making the people get on board with what the peoples party is doing, with violence if necessary… building unity. Because everyone is scared to disagree they go along with what the peoples party is doing… you know, Democracy.”
Also, a big reason why the populations of many non-western countries tend to associate democracy with social equality rather than sociopolitical freedom is because they have been gaslit into it. Communist dictatorships all around the world spent the entire second half of the 20th century indoctrinating their populations to believe that democracy is when the state eliminates the worst forms of economic insecurity and that opression in the name of this goal is freedom, actually, because the people doing the opressing kind of dress like regular workers. Appealing to the fact that different countries have different conceptions of democracy becomes kind of dishonest when you realise that the understanding of democracy has been intentional in manipulated in many countries. There also isn't a contradiction in democracy between sociopolitical freedom and economic equality. At all.
The ML view of democracy is that it is the power of the "public" (i.e the state) over that of the "private". It's weirdly similar to the view of lot of the "it's not a democracy, it's a republic" types
No, actually, Westerners have been gaslit into thinking that Democracy is not the "Rule of the People". Even Aristoteles, that reactionary Philosopher, who actually lived in Ancient Athens, considers the defining feature of Oligarchy as "voting for your rulers", while the one of Democracy is "Rulers are chosen by Lottery". Western systems are by *definition* Oligarchic, not Democratic.

Honestly? I don’t, because there’s no point, I feel like we settled this last time, I honestly think this is a bad decision on Vaushs part as this may cause a domino effect causing pointless drama for no fucking reason.
It really doesn't take much time to look into exactly what problems conservatives have with social policy. There are Fox News broadcasts on RUclips from a decade ago trying to slam ObamaCare under the grounds that the higher taxes will make it harder for you to gain any wealth, making it harder for you to succeed in life, which many people already do not. There are a lot of conservatives who would like to move out of their trailer homes someday, along with a lot of people in general who owe debts, so a health care tax for people outside of their families can easily be made to sound like the snuffing out of their glimmer of hope for financial stability & mobility. From this position, even if the conservative believes that you have good intentions, they also believe that the cost outweighs the benefit. Ever since Bernie, we've also dealt with the "socialism" term being thrown around, which is a sort of triple-edged sword. On one end, states that have called themselves socialist have a tendency to fail, which is easy ammo for anti-socialists. On the other end, the term "socialism" has lost a lot of its stigma. On the third end, a lot of the actual policy positions described with the "socialism" label are completely doable (and even beneficial) under capitalism, though socialists haven't really sold it that well. A lot of people DO want minimum wage that's livable in their areas, affordable health care options, greater aid for student debt, homelessness relief & job opportunity support, and a bite out of the huge wallets of the "elites" of society, but not nearly as many people want to identify as socialists, even though those are the exact real-life policies being pursued by socialists. In other words, you don't need to be a socialist to be a socialist, to pursue social policy. This has the effect of allowing the left to pursue palatable policy positions while also allowing the right to slap the "socialist" label onto anyone who wants to pursue ANY form of social policy. Now, when you want to support an infrastructure bill to replace & maintain the half-century-old power lines and provide funding for neglected school districts, conservatives can label it "socialism" and say that you're destroying the country by bringing its policies closer to the many failed socialist nations of the past, obfuscating the actual letter of the bill along with where the money is coming from, in order to say that they're taking the money from "the American taxpayer" when that taxpayer is entirely people in the top 1%. That's more or less the basic problem conservatives have with leftist policy, aside from the apparent frivolity of having them pay taxes for things they've never personally experienced in their own real lives, like health care for transgender people or abortion clinics.

"Dialectical materialism was used by Marx, and Engels and Lenin." Literally just not true. They had a materialist theory of history, sometimes referred to as historical materialism, and they did have a dialectical worldview inspired by the ideas of Hegel. There was a guy called Joseph Dietzgen who referenced, I think, a "materialist dialectic" and Marx and Engels called him one of their favourite contemporary philosophers; but that's the closest it came to "dialectical materialism" until Stalin who even his fellow party members said to his face was shit at reading theory (which he was: he has notes in a piece by Engels where he says the state should eventually disappear before socialism can be said to be achieved and Stalin just wrote next to it "no"), yeah not until Stalin started writing his own versions of theory to justify his rule do we see much in the literature the series of words together "dialectical materialism" and that's where the Communist Party of Vietnam gets their idea of it being a Stalinist party. As far as I can remember Lenin didn't use the phrase either. Now, their concept of historical materialism was based in their dialectical ideas but they did not use the term itself and the term as Stalin used it in his texts such as "Historical and Dialectical Materialism" did not conform at all with how Marx or Engels may have used it if they were asked about a specific phrasing.

The term “free press” annoys the crap out of me, there is no free press when all the media is owned by 6 elitist corporations. If you don’t have an independent press you don’t have a “free press”. If anything should be a workers coop it should be the media. Media needs to be government funded and independent to have a “free press”
There's a difference between a "free press" and a "fair press". A free press is like a free market, anyone can legally establish a media outlet, you or I could establish an online news website or podcast if I wanted to. What's up with that definition of democracy poll? I'm no expert, but in my mind democracy and voting are inseparable. To me, democracy is about everyone having an equal vote to determine decisions that the government makes. I didn't see anything about voting in the poll's categories.

I hate when people get upset at you for struggling to parse out their accent... I think it may have been from somewhere around like the Middle East or India? Something like that... Like, I had this one class with someone and was put in a group with them and they had a really thick accent that I was struggling with and when I was asking them to repeat some stuff a few times I explained it was because I had a hard time making out what they were saying due to their accent they were just like "What!? I don't have much of an accent!" and then this other person who looked like they might've been from the same country but with less of an accent was like "I can understand her just fine!" and it was like... I've never felt such gaslighting in my life... I think there may have been others too agreeing with them and I was just thinking like "How do they not hear it? It's so strong?" And like I got the impression that they were viewing me as a bit racist or something, but I just genuinely had a hard time making out what they were saying... I'm pretty sure the professor who was white might've said he can understand her fine, but like... Was he just trying to offend the other student or something? I didn't even mean for it to become a big thing I was just off-handedly explaining that the reason I kept asking her to repeat things was because of the accent... I don't really care about her nationality or accent, but regardless it just makes things difficult sometimes... It's not a racist thing since I'd ask it of someone with a thick enough Irish or German accent too... Mentally though it was really confusing how no one else seemed to not only minimize the existence of her accent, but act like it barely existed at all... And they're looking at me like I'm crazy when I'm just thinking about how they're all crazy BECAUSE ITS SO SELF-EVIDENT any time she speaks...
I am not sure this matter but Americans view have changed over time. @D Crawford no I feel like those should obviously be gotten rid of entirely. I feel like small businesses should all be co ops, and also not become too big, until we figure out how to get rid of capitalism entirely.
Market socialism isn’t the same thing as the buzzword “socialist oriented market” the way MLs use it. When MLs say that, they mean “capitalism in a state with a red flag”
@@pogo8050 The “socialist-oriented market economy” is actually a concept, applied by Vietnam’s particularly specific social system, that consists of a country with pre-capitalist, capitalist or socialist agents (modes of production). These include the social existence of various means of operation and organisation of labor, such as small-petty production relations, (individual economy), state-private capitalist commodity production (capitalism), and socialist production relations (public economy/state industries/cooperative farms). The way Vietnam define their socialist system is “socialism in its infancy” meaning: “underdeveloped socialism”. Hence the existence of many various forms of society organisation. It was previously used by the Soviet Union to describe “world socialism” or the “world socialist movement” as not just real socialist countries but countries that are subject to socialist-orientation. The “socialist-oriented” countries in Africa and the Middle East like Yemen, Mozambique, Namibia, Zimbabwe etc are countries once described in the 80’s before the Soviet collapse as “socialist-oriented countries”: It was implied that the concept embraced the communist parties of the capitalist and developing world especially if they had massive support.

Somehow I am not shocked 🤷♂
Well technically this is true. What if one day a majority of people voted to lynch or oppress minorities?

Either via overthrow of prior governments (France, Nazi German, Norway, Sweden, etc.) Absolutism (the United States and Canada, post-WII), or client state coups [*Insert Latin/South American and/or Southeast Asian country here.*]
But hey, I’m certain the Indian population (*serving the Nazis*) would have faired better than under the British (who’s Prime Minister thought of them as a “Beastly people with a Beastly religion”, condemning a population to starve to death in 1942…)
But hey, “MuH HoloDomOr!” am I right?

(But what do you expect from a guy that repeats Nazi propaganda when it comes to the Soviet Union and *uncritically* supports a Nazified Ukraine?)
I mean, if he supports U.S. Military supremacy (against China), then CLEARLY he must know *why* the Chinese populace elect members - based on merit (and not campaign promises), or why Russia *doesn’t trust* the West when it comes to Peace Talks, right?
(See? I’m providing EXAMPLES of Dialetical Materialism at work.)

I hope this gets answered as well.
The idea is (i think) that once descisions are made by the party (in theory these are made democratically by the membership of the "worker's party" in a "party congress", in practice usually by a single leader or an elite), they are binding on all party members and no one may publically disagree with it
This is pretty much it.

When I affect something, that something affects me. Therefore the state should rule supreme and we should submit! I get it now.

And I became the translator, now, the wickedly funny part was when a friend would ask her a question and she particularly didn't like him or her, she ( through me ) would reply what a dumbass thing to ask ( or an even uglier comment..ha! ) and I would spin in it English, and they smile never knowing what she truly said...Lol.

There has long standing rumours that JFK was high on pain killers during the missile crisis, while it was true that he used pain killers under doctor's supervision because of injury during WW2 the idea of him being stoned on pain killers is hard to believe. I have dealt with a person stoned on pain killers and they can barely walk straight let alone give and order. Also Kennedy order those missiles in Turkey before the crisis but the military for some reason they had not done it.
You notice how she was going to explain to us how Vietnamese democracy works, and then she just ... didn't?
Maybe she does later in the video, but considering she spend like 20 minutes ranting about how "freedom bad", I doubt it.

"Dialectical materialism was used by Marx, and Engels and Lenin."
Literally just not true.

I worked in Vietnam and capitalism runs those streets its crazy.
I went there on a sort of humanitarian field trip during my high school senior days (this would have been back in 2008). We met these disabled kids at an orphanage who made their living working on tea plantations for international consumption. The experience gave me the impression that, in a lot of tankie countries, a large proportion of the population does cheap labor for Global North businesses while their supposedly revolutionary governments look the other way. I bet Africa and most of the rest of the Third World is the same way.
@@BrandonPilcher yeah, we keep them poor by keeping they’re wages so low, it’s how capitalism robs developing countries to keep them subservient. Idk why these people keep saying these “”communist”” countries are somehow not capitalist.
The study on US democracy was not about the interests of the poor, it was about their expressed preferences. Manufactured consent only explains consent.

An newcomer having an " thick accent" isn't necessarily an barrier to communication, almost of all these newcomers already speech two or more languages while they're learning English also.
Vaush probably has auditory processing disorder. I have it and have the same issues with accents. Even if the accent is light I may have issues with understanding what the person is trying to say. It's definitely not racist to have an auditory disorder 😂 I swear
I never heard of that before. Is it the reason why I find accents very hard to understand?
That may be it too. I think I have that too. Apparently it’s more common among ASD peeps like us.
Or maybe…maybe it’s possible for someone to be wrong without a clear reason.
I mean isn’t he on the autism spectrum? Audio processing issues are a common comorbidity.
I like how Luna's first image of the Jim Crow south was George Lincoln Rockwell's American Nazi Party goons, and not just, like, actual everyday racist southern shopkeepers and town council members. She really sold the horror short there.

We should spend more time talking about Asian politics. It’s really not niche, China and Japan are very important in American politics, but I don’t think most people understand their politics outside of “communism” and “not communism”.

A fair press is one in which all viewpoints are equally respected. So in the west we mostly have a free press, but not necessarly a fair one
America does have independent media though. Just because half of the country is too stupid to look at it doesn't mean it doesn't exist
@@alexgray2482 that's not free either war.
It's a lie. How the system works is essentially a ban on dissidents. That is not free whatsoever.
Do not be an US corporate state apologist. (Don't repeat American exceptionalist propaganda- things Ben Shapiro or Tucker Carlson would say)
@@alexgray2482 could I though? Yeah I could make a RUclips channel but no one would watch it, there are hundreds watching, also I don’t have he resources to hire people to do investigative journalism. Anything I could do that is “free press” is really just opinion pieces with the only source being the MSM, which is owned by billionaire courporations that don’t own the media to make money, they only the media to control the politicians, manipulate policy, control what people are talking about. It is about power, not about information. Journalist are only employed if they toe the party line. Example how long would a journalist last at any MSM outlet that talked up Bernie sanders? And even if they wrote an amazing article about it, what is the chances that it gets past editing? So the only positive media for progressive is on Indy media, which is constantly attacked by the MSM as illegitimate . Tome this is not a free media, because information is controlled based on the agenda of the people that own the media. It is why the Overton window is always moving to the right and progressive policy never get implemented, it is why power is never held to account.
People need to accept that we do not have a free media, just an impression of a free media. We need to do that to make the first step of change, or extinction is our future.
@@alexgray2482 idk, even then it’s not exactly free when almost every news outlet is owned by 6 massive companies.
What's up with that definition of democracy poll? I'm no expert, but in my mind democracy and voting are inseparable. To me, democracy is about everyone having an equal vote to determine decisions that the government makes. I didn't see anything about voting in the poll's categories.
That's Oligarchy, Democracy is when your representatives are instantaneously recalled when failing to serve the People (Anarchism), and also when several positions are chosen by Lottery (Ancient Athens)
It's so strong?"
And like I got the impression that they were viewing me as a bit racist or something, but I just genuinely had a hard time making out what they were saying...

It wasn't long ago that the New Deal ideas of using the Fed to better the lives of the common people was held by the majority of people it wasn't until people like Reagan started spreading the idea that the government was a threat to freedom that things changed.

40:37 Isn't Vaush literally a market socialist, at least in the short term? I don't remember him ever advocating for the immediate abolition of the market economy. So to laugh at her for saying "socialist oriented market system" seems weird.
@@pogo8050 Market socialism is a oxymoron, and the reason why Yugoslavia and the USSR fall, revisionism is the death of socialist movements.
