OUTSTANDING -(SORRY HIT CAPS LOCK BY MISTAKE). Wife and I used this and loved the clear, succint direction. Lock now installed and working - locked my wife outside.
The QR code is inside the face plate. I have three of these locks. I wish you had this out when I went to install mine. It would have answered so many of the questions left out of the August install information at their website.
Great video, but for some reason the app nowadays is sort of different---there is no prompt to scan the QR code of the new device...Instead, it goes directly to installing the actual lock...I will be doing this tomorrow with a handy man, as I am exactly the opposite to being handy. See how it goes. Thanks for this awesome video.
I have a one sided keyless dead bolt. It only has a turn lock on the inside you can't see from the exterior. It seems like it should work but online it says it doesn't work on one sided dead bolts. Is that the same? Why does there have to be a key hole on the exterior for it to work?
So I took all of the screws out of that side of the trim around the window. Then I pulled it away to get it seated and close the wings. Then I reattached the trim. It worked. Surprisingly, the lock doesn’t rub.
I’m glad you figured it out! I sadly I don’t have those screws in the window around my door so looks like I’ll have to find another lock that’s a bit smaller
How are you inserting the right wing latch at 01:31 ? The window trim casing is blocking the insertion of the latch on the right side for me. I have the same window casing on the right side like yours.
You might have to mark and make a cut out on the window trim which I wouldn't advise as in future if you change this Lock with something else. You will have to fix that. Try something different?
Couldn’t someone just break the window and turn the lock by reaching through? I have a similar set up and wonder if installing a smart lock makes sense.
You will need to buy the Connect dongle. Because 3rd Gen Lock and earlier don’t have WiFi (4th Gen Lock has WiFi). I think the assistant feature is on the WiFi device. And yes it will work with - Alexa, - Google Home, - Apple HomeKit
Ok. I am looking for a place to show me how to install this rather than say things like the QR code is inside the faceplate. What is the faceplate, how do I get it off? There’s no documentation with this thing and and the app says as much. I’ve spent more than 5 minutes on this already.
It still has the key cylinder on the outside that will unlock it like any other lock, it runs on batteries and can be controlled via Bluetooth by a phone near it with the app, so I don't see any problem at all if the power is out.
Sometimes you find great deal on amazon. I just got one at $120 for a used 3rd Gen lock with WiFi Connect dongle. The problem is I have to wait 3 days before I can activate it. Because the lock is activated under someone else. They suppose to reset it but they didn’t. I had to contact August support and send them my proof of purchased.

Hello, can I reuse the screws from the thumb latch @1:06 from my existing lock?
How did you get the wing far enough open to secure it? I have a window frame that prevented this with the larger, non wifi version. Thanks!

Thank you, real simple!
Nice quick video. Loved it!
How about also installing the door sense, good to have it
Where do you buy doorsense? It didn’t come with mine
@@GemsWithIdy It should be in the box
Nice install summary!
Straight forward and super helpful!

Can you please tell me what kind of deadbolt do you use because I want one like you with handle
This was super simple to install. Thanks for the video!
Will it play nice with a wifi network that's not broadcasting its SSID?
Will this prevent a young kid from turning the lock manually from the inside, or can you still turn it by hand?
That's illegal and neglectful. What if there's a fire?
So I’m looking at getting this for my back door and it also has that little window. How do I close the wings together if that window gets in the way?
I have the same issue. Did you come up with a solution?

@@clairepang3977 If someone wanted in it would be the same with an old school twist lock.
Wait. Bricks? Do you live in the US? Where?
great video, thanks
How long does the battery last?
I go every two months
My wifi dies not connect. Ideas? Solution?
Es segura contra los amigos de lo ajeno?
I had ordered it from Amazon but the didnt send the adapter
Where is the door sensor?
Does it works with Alexa?

I bought one but I didn’t have the door tong
Silly question: what happens if the smart lock runs out of battery and I am outside? What's the workaround? Thanks
You use your spare key to open it
It gives you a warning before that happens

The door at the end of the video opens outward? That means the hinge pins are outside as well.. Why bother with a lock at all?
😭🤣
It’s done in certain states with high crime so the door cannot be kicked -inward
It’s also that way in hurricane zones to prevent the doors from failing inward due to airborne debris or wind pressure.
Would suck if wifi went down for some time during a storm or something eh?
the lock still works manually..

Door sensor???????
And the sensor???
Does the fourth gen use a sensor?
What I have to do ??
I am looking anyone in UK, to help me how install this smart locker
Don't buy a used August lock because they won't factory reset it for you
Sour grapes
So a thief can just break the window and turn the knob or remove the face plate to remove batteries...
they could do that either way lulz
really.
What i dont understand is why these cost $300.... The tech is relatively dated by now and a variety of companies could easily disrupt this space

You can get one on ebay for about $140
Hello
The better make the dung common hand gun bullet resistant.
It's amazing that the lady in the video spent almost $300 on a "smart lock" but installed it on a $20 deadbolt...
