    Nice video, I installed one of these in my home and it is that easy. A couple things… 1) I have had mine in operation for just over 1 year and have not had to change the batteries yet! 2) The smart connect with mine failed out of the box and had to get it replaced. Support via email was great and had a new one shipping within 3 days of when I reported the issue.

    I just installed mine today over a Gen1 Aug lock. The set up was easy but my App kept kicking me off. Had to call their 1-800 for customer service - but guess what? They were super friendly and very knowledgeable (on a Sunday too!!). Walked me step by step until we got it right. Thx for the video and the tip on buying these batteries in bulk!! Cheers!!

    I have mine giving me email notifications for when the battery needs replacing. I replaced them once after getting notified, and then decided to try a long-term test the second time. I ignored the next email notification, and also opened and closed the lock twice to make sure it was being used regularly at each notification as the door does not get daily use and I wanted to show more actual use.
    Surprise! the batteries kept going for a full two months after the first notification and I count 65 (!) email notifications since the first one that I kept ignoring. I conclude therefore, that the notification is based on a simple set time, like two months, rather than an actual reading of the battery's energy level. In my case, the lock is not used very much and I can easily keep the batteries in for twice the allotted time.

    Ty for this videos. I have a couple of questions. 1) for the door sense does it attach well to the panel door frame will this come loose? Mine panel is little curve I hope it will stick well since I live in a rental unit so I am not allowed to drill hole. 2) if I set to auto unlock is this means if my phone is set to wifi or LTE then the door will sense me is coming home to unlock door? 3) What if my wifi is not working is this means I need to use key? Thanks

    • @EverydayHomeRepairs
      @EverydayHomeRepairs  3 года назад

      The double-sided tape should hold the door position sensor on the trim without adding the screws. If you allow the August App to know your location then it will unlock when you get home if you are on Wifi or Cellular. If Wifi is out your keypad will still work over Bluetooth and your phone would still work if you are close (within 20ft - 30ft) because it would also use Bluetooth. Good questions!

      @@glin930 actually the auto unlock feature is one that I don't have much experience with since I have 2 units (1 on an airbnb and 1 on a rehab project) so the feature really doesn't work for my use case. I wonder if there is a bit of a hiccup since when you are arriving home your phone is probably switching from cellular to Wifi data and as such might cause a delay or issue with auto unlock.

    Well, well, rather timely. We have been in our house for 2 years now. And, the Builder installed a Kwikset pin lock. My Missus wants the door painted. That means having it sanded and all that. During that project, I might install a newer door lock. Maybe something like this. Alas, not fond of the battery situation. But, I also understand why. I guess the battery would last longer for us, as we use the garage door, more than the front door...

    I have a question I just got one yesterday the Wi-Fi fourth generation
    I noticed that when I leave my house and go a circ proximity away from my house it does not automatically lock now I could do a auto lock off of a set timer. My issue is I don't like that option because my door will auto lock and say if I don't have my phone on me and I'm talking to my neighbor or something like that I might get locked out of my house. Is there a way to get it to auto lock only if I go away from my house a certain distance instead of a timer?

    Years ago, I had a divided glass door very similar to that one. One day, when I was at work, a thief climbed over our fence, picked up a rock in our back yard, busted the pane closest to the deadbolt and door handle, and let himself in to burgle our home. Fortunately, something startled him. We came home to pile of tempered glass and our stereo equipment stacked inside the open back door. The pane was replaced with laminated glass.

      @@chomp54321 I have one of these and you don’t want the dead bolt rubbing against the strike plate at all. The battery life is short enough as it is ( shy of 3 months in winter 4 in summer) . The extra current drawn by the motor dragging the deadbolt across the strike plate would drawing batteries even faster.

    Spending around $300 for a "lock" on a door that has glass so close to the lockset is essentially throwing the $$ away. It also looks like the door is on the side or back of the house, not readily visible from the street or neighbors. You'd be better off with a quality deadbolt, preferably with a double lock cylinder. Keep the key easily accessible to the occupants in case of emergency. In most jurisdictions these double cylinder lock are not prohibited in residential applications. I spent over 20 years in law enforcement, much of it in crime prevention. That door is child's play.

    • @bnasty267

      It's the old saying, if a thief wants to get in your house bad enough, he will. The only purpose of a lock is to make it more difficult and slow him down so he will move along to a neighbor instead.
