When I filmed this a month or so ago neither Kristina or I had found the small business that Shein ripped off despite both of us doing reverse image searches. I do want to call out that the bee design they feature is a embroidery pattern by Emillie Ferris that you can find here: www.etsy.com/listing/770835199/sweet-bee-floral-wreath-hand-embroidery. Support small businesses and avoid fast fashion the best you can!
If you thrift threads, put them in a zip-lock bag and place it in the freezer overnight. I don’t know why but I have found that it helps with refreshing the thread.
This is a beautiful homage to the women who spent hours of time to create those items! My mother had a beautiful "hand" when it came to embroidery and crocheting. And, you're right! Most of us who have items of that handwork usually keep them in a drawer. JUST love it!!
I have never had a table, mantel, chest, dresser or any surface in my house that I didn't put a doily or dresser scarf on. I can't imagine not having something under a lamp, for instance.
Came out sew beautiful!! Personally I love seeing your price breakdown. As a small biz owner I still have “guilt” pricing things that are equal to my worth. Seeing you break it down really helps! 💗
Yes I think small business owners have it so hard because as consumers we were trained to expect pricing that can only be achieved with unethical labor practices. It takes a bit of brain retraining to understand why small businesses like yours are worth buying from!
This is sooooo lovely and the placement of the flowers are spot in. Such a brilliant idea and collaboration. The grandma would be so happy to see her creations used to make this gorgeous dress. Those shoulder ruffles are so 80'sand feminine. I fell in love with linens as a child, and collecting even since. I have on occasion paid more than I wanted too because the piece would be calling my name so hard.,😂😂😂💚 I have sets of pillowcases too........would have been happy to share with you. Certainly enjoyed this video!!!❤
EEEE I love love love how it turned out! I promise my video will be up soon lol. lol "organic" is a much nicer way to describe my absolute CHAOS when sewing I love you
I love when you do these! my hubby and I love thrifting and every time I see the linens like these I always think of you, I keep talking about making one, but I have too many projects as it is
In Victorian times, the doilies were used to make something called an antimacassar. This was laid over the top of chairs to keep the oils from peoples hair from staining the furniture . They were also laid over the arms of chairs for the same reason occasionally. When I was young my grandmother would crochet doilies, and she would just use them to cover the top of every surface in her house. No cabinet or TV or shelf was complete if it didn’t have a few doilies on it. I’m not sure when this was actually stylish, but I’ve just always looked at it as kind of an old lady thing because I’ve seen lots of old ladies do it. In the 80s, it was actually fashionable to make your area kind of cutesy. You are way too young to remember that every woman had to own a white goose with a blue apron that was about 2 feet tall and stood in a corner of the living room, and the doilies kind of had a little comeback at that point. it was rather cottage core, and we would make the doilies so that they would stick up and have waves in them and all kinds of stuff. I have made about a million doilies in my life. They are useful nowadays as the center of dreamcatchers. I have also crocheted a lot of snowflakes for Christmas trees. Currently, I’m undergoing some stress in my life, and I find that crocheting little small doilies helps calm my nerves. My Neurodivergence is that I have some OCD. Attention to tiny detail makes me calm and happy. I will probably turn some of these into Dreamcatchers, and people have been suggesting other interesting ways to use them. They look pretty sewn together as a tablecloth, or just lain across a canvas and attached as an art piece.
I think there are likely a great number of ways to repurpose doilies, I've also seen people make really cute backs from sewing them all together so they kind of look like the net farmers market bags but a lot more fun and colorful!
The dailies my great-grandmother used were placed on upholstered chairs and sofas where they were likely to come into contact with people's skin or hair, such as over the fabric on the arm rests and across the upholstered backs.
I have seen such doilies hanging from the top of the back of armchairs to protect the fabric of the armchair from pomade or other hair oils. I made myself a loose blouse from an antique bedsheet the other week. It had a embroidery of a butterfly with leaves, about 10x45 cm. I used this as a shoulder yoke on the back and felt really chic!
I love when creators work together across their channels! Thanks for sharing the original creator, Im sure they really appreciate that! It’s maddening these companies rip off small business artisans and use forced labor to make dupes with zero consequences…ugh… not buying from SHEIN et al and getting the word out is the best we can do. Thank you Haley!
Thank you! And agree it is so maddening and also really frustrating that because companies like this steal small businesses IP the original makers then get accused of drop shipping.
Hi Haley Marie. I love the dress you made in fact it is a whole lot better than the shine dress. Given the choice I would rather buy you one in my size.
I think this is my favorite of the thrifted linen dresses you've made. Because it is less busy it's easier to really see the individual decorations. To me, it is a lovely way to highlight each piece, whereas in some of the other pieces everything kind of drowns in a sea of pretty. But that's just personal preference, my style is usually more on the understated side. Also, as someone who does tatting; that lace isn't going to unravel much. Tatting is basically a lot of tiny knots, and once those loops are drawn tight, they are not going anywhere. The only time I've ever cared enough to unpick mistakes in my tatting was when I was making the lace for my wedding dress. It would usually take me about an hour or so to unpick a single loop.
Hey Haley, just want to let you know i went to Sewn shop in Denver. I was surprised by the big collection of patterns in that shop. Thank you for mentioning about it.
so neat to watch! Have you tried gathering by zig zag stitching over a heavier thread laid along the seam line?? I use a button and craft thread, and zig zag with a normal thread.... You might consider adding tatted or crocheted trim at the waistline if you want more color.. The result is fantastic!!! And Christina's was as well.... Thank you!
It’s gorgeous. I totally love this - I’m known to do it with knitting patterns and I’m always hacking patterns for sewing as well. Also, when you mentioned “pockets” in that voice, I realised that’s the equivalent of “ooh, squirrel!” When you’re a neurodivergent sewist - and I feel SEEN! (As a fellow neurodivergent sewist. Boo on the hands. Still recovering from the second Covid bout and my hands are either a) tremoring or b) sore all over (which hampers the knitting). Total empathy here - hope it settles soon
@@HaleyMarieVintage if I find good store of them (like fb marketplace) I'll pop a message to you. Which platform is best? I could ship them if the sellers don't.
My guess is that the "doily" is actually one side of a hand bag! If they crochet another one just like that, connect them on the sides (the red-pink part in halfcircle shape) and then sew a lining, it makes a bag that wasn't uncommon in old crochet patterns. 😊
Get yourself a spool of Tex 45 thread, I keep a bobbin full of one to pop in when I do gathering because it is stronger, it is thicker so it also makes your tension on bobbin looser for easier pulling, I leave what ever thread I’m using in needle. Just don’t use your auto thread cutter with it
I basically buy thrift store, garage sale, medium-price name brand, or make it myself. I refuse to overpay. Put up with slave labor. Waste fabric that i can save from landfill while buying lower quality new fabrics. I have 4 quilts planned from thrift store finds/men's shirts/old clothing. Agreed, I love being able to wear them out so other people can see the amazing hand work!
She would definitely appreciate you using and loving her hard work.
Doilles were mainly used to protect wood furniture from objects that scratched. They were both decorative and functional
I honestly had never thought about that before. It makes sense though.
I have never had a table, mantel, chest, dresser or any surface in my house that I didn't put a doily or dresser scarf on. I can't imagine not having something under a lamp, for instance.
That makes total sense now that you say it, my grandma was never a big doily person so I never got to see them in action.
Brilliant use of vintage linens. Bravo!

This is stunning, Haley! It's great to see you repurpose these linens to create a new piece of art.
Thank you, Kate!
I didn't think all those different flowers would look good, but it looks beautiful. You did an awesome job
Thank you!
Yes, you should be proud of yourself! The dress is perfect, and doesn't need another thing. It is now my number one favorite dress that you've made.
Thank you!

❤😊G’day beautiful lady!
LOL I mean chaos is pretty organic!
I know I say this a bunch, but I think this may be my favorite make from you recently! I LOVE how creative you are with reusing linens. ❤❤❤
Thank you!!!
I love how you used those, its beautiful!
Thanks! I was so glad I got to use them so soon! I often put these projects off
That turned out so nice! I love how you used the linens and I think it does great homage to the women who made them. :)
Thank you!
Your dress is beautiful and nobody will have one like it. Also how lovely that these embroideries will now be on show and not hidden away in drawers
Thank you!
I love when you do these! my hubby and I love thrifting and every time I see the linens like these I always think of you, I keep talking about making one, but I have too many projects as it is
Yeah I feel that, I've slowed down in my linen collecting as well because I only have so much time to make things with them!

That dress looks amazing. I love how well you used the embroidery on the linen pieces.
Beautiful dress, homage, and message - thank you
Great make! I love tge way you so thoughtfully use and place the special linens!
Amazing dress, this lenght suits you perfectly!

Always fun to collaborate with Kristina!
Very nicely done! It looks good on you.
Cool, i would have never thought to do that with embroidered pillowcases.
It came out very pretty!!
That dress is darling! It looks so cute on you 🥰
Beautiful work!🎉❤
Wow!talent! Beautiful

Just absolutely beautiful!
Thank you!
Love these sleeves! It’s so cute!!! Great work as always Haley :)
Thank you!
Another great dress, love the upcycling linens to make the dress and then adding more decoration using doilies and the embroidery on the linen
really awesome breakdown at the end. So interesting!! I always wonder how some channels can afford certain projects. All the factors you mentioned!!

This dress is SO gorgeous. Beautiful. You did a wonderful job.
Thank you!
It’s amazing how long your hair is when you don’t have it curly. I like this too. The colors are just gorgeous.
Yeah it is wild how long my hair has gotten!

Wow❤ beautiful.

Oh thank you, that is good to know on tatting!
Very lovely! I made a dress for choir in ninth grade with the pattern that you nixed. 😂
Lol, I love the pattern it just somehow keeps getting nixed by other patterns lol
Hey Haley, just want to let you know i went to Sewn shop in Denver. I was surprised by the big collection of patterns in that shop. Thank you for mentioning about it.
Yay! It really is a fantastic shop!

Hope your hands settle soon too!
We used doilies wherever items were set on furniture. We also used them on chairs as arm and head covers. Just to list a few.
That is just so creative and beautiful! You got me as a new subscriber! I found you through Christina’s channel! ❤ I also love the cost breakdown!
Welcome!
I'm all caught up!
Amazing!
I love Kristina!
I have a bunch of these linens, myself! I live in New England and they are pretty common so now I think I'm gonna make a skirt or a dress with them!
Yes love it!!! I wish there were more here but when I am on the East Coast I try to pick some up!

When you cut and join the pillow cases's crochet trims, do you think it will ravel?how do you prevent ravelling
I make sure to sew the seam stitches through the crochet trim to anchor it and prevent raveling!
Did you get a new camera? This video quality, especially the intro was great!
Thanks, I did not, my recording quality often really relies on natural light playing in my favor and it was on my side for this project!
