So that was a mind blowing demo. My god man, you N A I L E D hummer. I went through a ton of reviews and then this came up and blew me away. Oh. And thank you. ✌️
Great demo. One thing I should mention, and a lot of Pumpkins fans may not know about Billy's setup is the pots he used on his old Siamese Strat. With the Lace Sensors, I'm fairly certain he just used the stock 250k pots, as opposed to the TBX pots that came stock on the Strat Plus/Plus Deluxe from the 90s that a lot of people use with Lace Sensors. The 250k pots are a bit warmer sounding, you can get the TBX to sound like a 250k pot, but you would have to roll back the tone knob to about 5 or 6.
zack palmer That’s interesting, I’ve heard the opposite - he used 500k. Having said that, I’m pretty sure the pots in my Strat are 250k, and I had the TBX control removed when these pickups were fitted. No complaints about how they sound! 😄
The Op-Amp Big Muff π is my favourite fuzz pedal. I like that it's more agressive and grittier than the standard Big Muff π. I have Boss Katana 50 and Ibanez Gio Superstrat, my distortion pedal is Boss DS-2 Turbo Distortion. I also have DigiTech Whammy DT, so i could use fuzz + Octave up/Octave down setting. I'm sure Big Muff would fit well into my rig.
Thanks so much for this video. I'm just a casual player trying to recreate that siamese dream sound for fun. I bought one of these pedals recently and your overview of the settings has been a huge help.
SHOOT! I love this dude! He's a pumpkins freak and has all the same exact gear. Tonality it sounds different than the recording, but I'm sure it's just the tone knob. I'm a huge fan, so I could tear any cover apart. Sounds better than any other cover I've ever heard though. Good job, friend.
Tone closer to 1 o'clock nails the Pumpkins sound for me. You can also get the same Pumpkins sound out of the green and white muff Tone Wicker variant. The knob settings will be different but you can get the sounds to match. We did a side by side test and got the sounds indistinguishable from each other.
I actually think it's very close and only somewhat different from the original, but I think that may have a lot to do with mixing board or whatever Billy and whatever the engineers did with the final tone.
@@ElliotStent it sounds really "controlled" on your recording. I put mine through a marshall jcm in studio and doesnt sound as clear and controlled as your sound. Plus yours sounds EXACTLY like the album. I actually can't believe how dead on you have it. Thanks for replying.
This is the best demo of this pedal out there. Amazing playing and great job showing the range of sounds inside there. I’ve had this pedal since right after it came out and I learned a lot about it’s behavior from your video. One thing you didn’t let on though is how noisy it can be and just how deafeningly loud it is on some of these settings. This thing is really loud!
Ive seen a ton of videos that mimic the tone of siamese dream and this is by far the closet that my ears have heard to the original tone. But the key that most people miss, that sets this one apart, is your play style and the subtle vibrato that really nails that sound. Great work.
Elliot, Sandy, from Texas. Excellent tone and playing. It’s no wonder you work at Anderson’s. IMHO, they are the Ozzy of Music Stores. You’re in good company, with all the fantastic players associated with Anderson’s throughout the years. Keep up the good work!
finally someone who knows how to use this pedal. I swear I saw a demo of a Big Muff with the lowest sustain level and what's really annoying is the Blues noodling
Wow. I really need to mess around the with settings on my amp for my clean sound. Everytime I try using a drive or fuzz pedal on my clean channel the sound is so weak. But definitely going to try again after watching this!
Seriously! .. I usually play this song in a similar way .. that D chord I do the same, but A? bit different, but the sound you get is pretty interesting 👌🏼 And really enjoyed listening so many different examples with fuzz distortion .. bush, weezer and more 👏🏼👏🏼 Cheers from Chile 🇨🇱
I agree. All the tab i find wants you to play at the 3-5 fret. Been trying to find the right chords. I just got this pedal awesome. Elliot stent can you possibly do tutorial vids of the songs you played?
Superb review. Sorry not to have seen this video prior to buy my first muff. I bought the Green Russian Re-Issue because it sounded better in most comparison-based demos. In fact it sounds very cool but it may get lost in the mix because of its low end, all the opposite from this mid-charged pedal. And you made the Op amp sound very close to the SP sounds and the other bands. It may sound harsh isolated (main reason I originally dislked it) but that is for the lack of the other instruments and their frecuencies. Maybe I'll buy it in the future. Happy Siamese Dream Day BTW.
When you say ‘layers’ are you double/triple/quad (or more) tracking those parts? (And slightly offsetting to fatten it up?). Any recommendations of what pedal to use live if only using 1 guitar, to try and get a little bit of that multi-tracking effect? (To get a fuller/thicker sound?)
That’s correct 👍 You could try the TC Electronic Mimiq, although I don’t have any experience with it. Just running a little bit of delay will thicken up your sound though, like an analogue or tape delay emulation that’s a little more subtle.
Hi from France I really like your videos your playing is really accurate and the sound is so similar to the pumpkins siamese dream era This sound so good that I wish you would have made a full version of hummer and rocket! Keep doing great music bye
Wow! I've never been a big Pumpkins fan, but I do like his guitar sound. I love fuzzes, but I don't have one that sounds like this. This thing sounds great. I'm wondering how noisy it is. I had a Triangle reissue that sounded great, but it was too noisy, when engaged. I just got the Ripped Speaker, and it's dead quiet. Great demo. Thanks!
Great demo, first one that I have seen that really put it through its paces. I have the pedal but I’m currently looking at purchasing a late 80s to early 90s strat (mij) and putting in lace sensors. This has only cemented the decision for me.
You just cost me uh...whatever this pedal costs. Unfortunately my Strat with the Lace Sensors is being refinished, but once it's ready to play again, it'll have a new friend. Good frakking video, man. I'm a Pumpkins fan from way back, and you're nailing it! Good to hear that sweet, delicious saturated sound.
Sweet demo! Your demo of the Red, Silver, Blue pickup set actually convinced me to buy the set, in that you displayed how versatile they are. I don’t suppose you’d share your pickup height would you? I know I should ‘use my own ears,’ or ‘adjust to taste.’ However, I think you you’ve nailed it. If not, it’s all good. Thanks for your videos.
Carl Tucker - Thanks for the kinds words Carl! 👍 I don’t really know the exact measurements man, haven’t got anything precise enough to gauge it. I had the pickups installed by a tech, and he said that he followed Lace’s recommendations. So there might be something online for that, or it might be best to contact Lace directly. Sorry I couldn’t be more helpful! 😄
Fantastic demo! If I didn’t already own this pedal, this video would have me buying it immediately. Hummer sounded flawless man (as did everything else). What pickup do you use for pumpkins stuff, neck mostly? Little Sister was also perfect! Great job brother.
Wow...your track sounds incredibly close to to the album...well done man! SUBBED
Shred Shed Thank you so much! 😄
Holy crap. Yeah agreed! this is fantastically close to the real song!
Hummer is my favorite Pumpkins song.
Cletus Kasady Mine too! 🤘❤️
Favourite song ever

I could just loop the 1st minute of that song over & over
Yeah it’s top shelf
Finally someone who puts the sustain past noon in their demo. I swear I thought this pedal sounded like complete ass until I found this video
Pipipman2 Ahaha thanks 😄
sustain has to be all the way up for any muff to sound good
This was by far the absolute best demo of this pedal! You nailed the parts and tones with this thing.

I got chills when you started playing Rocket. Excellent demo, thank you.
7:03 lol that's exactly how I have my op amp clone set, that going into an overdriven amp man. Nothing like it
Best demo so far! Thanks my OP BIG MUFF is on the way…. Cannot wait to hold it into my hands
Thank you for showing the big muff settings in the corner!
So glad to have your demo pop up in my feed. Always a treat.

Great review, awesome sounds.
I swear this thing is like Pumpkins and Wolfmother in one small package
Oh man I have this pedal on my board and it's so underused. My heart skipped a beat when I pressed play on the video. Beautiful playing
The most useful review of this pedal I found. Nice one!
めちゃかっこいい音!!
Greatest demo. Please make all 4 big muffs reissue demos!
Amazing video!!! You got the tones down perfectly!!
Love playing solos with this pedal. Its like a good overdrive on crack.
This is by far the best product demo I have ever seen. I got my Op Amp just yesterday and this is just what I needed., Thank You

Okay im definitely sold!!
Excellent tones, out of this pedal.

That was absolutely amazing at the end.. I couldn’t tell difference between that and smashing pumpkins that’s how good it was..
Nice demo, loved the QOTSA song. I'm gonna buy one
My 13 year old self appreciates this immensely! Thank you!
What a great demo! Got that sound nailed.
Very, very, very nice! I Love this video

My all time favorite SP song. Perfectly played. Also, this pedal is my desert island pedal. Don't go a single day without using it.
Perry Scinta - Definitely one of mine too, thanks for the kind words 😄👍
Thanks for putting this pedal in the context of a band mix. Always heard I would need to place a boost in front to get this to cut in a live band.
Nope. It will cut through a mix like butter. Put a clean boost after it like A tc electronic Spark if you want to tear people's faces off.
Great video, thanks!
I was waiting for the stereo panning at rocket 😏
