NEAL AND JACK AND ME
I’m wheels, I am moving wheels
I am a 1952 studebaker coupe
I’m wheels, I am moving wheels moving wheels
I am a 1952 starlite coupe ...
En route .....les Souterrains
Des visions du Cody ...Sartori à Paris ...
Strange spaghetti in this solemn city ...
There’s a postcard we’ve all seen before ...
Past wild-haired teens in dark clothing
With hands-full of autographed napkins we
eat apples in vans with sandwiches ...rush
Into the lobby life of hurry up and wait
Hurry up and wait for the odd-shaped keys
Which lead to new soap and envelopes
Hotel room homesickness on a fresh blue bed
And the longest ever phone call home .....no
Sleep no sleep no sleep no sleep and no mad
Video machine to eat time ...a cityscene
I can’t explain, the Seine alone at 4a.m.
The Seine alone at 4a.m......Neal and Jack and me
Absent lovers, absent lovers ...

dear Adrian Belew, you claim to be wheels, but also the waiting man and a dinossaur
interesting...
At least he's not a model man.
What about the 1952 studebaker coupe? I think the insane alone in 4:00 Am is Belew and he's schizophrenic.
@@AthenisOculi Not just schizophrenic, he's schizoid, man!
Well yeah, he's a waiting man on dinosaur wheels.
The Lone Rhinoceros , as well.
I got this album because I traded my BMX for it. That is how I was into King Crimson. At the time I was 12 years old, well over 40 years ago.
Magnificent. It was the brain-worm soundtrack in my head when I followed Rush around Europe in '83, hitch-hiking, had no cash, nearly starved, nearly got killed, slept rough, and this was the perfect musical accompaniment to the insanity of my experiences.
Best part of your life I bet, Bobby
D Vision d’bobby
I mean, that coda starting around 2:50 is the stuff of heaven
Absolutely true! I'd be listening those intertwined guitars forever...
Totally agreed! Still I had to put some others drums on just that part. Did an upload with my drumming today if interested 👍🏻🤩

So real for saying this
Adrian Belew is also an excellent guitarist!!!!

I fucking love this album. I'm reading On The Road by Jack right now, and knowing about all the poetry that inspired this album and its lyrics really makes it a lot better.
I completely missed this version of KC...was a young teen when their erlier stuff was released and I wasn't a fan...well, here we are in 2023 and I'm discovering just what an amazing band they really were/are. Better late than never 😉
Just so. Cheers!
Indeed.
80s crimson is the best
Just about. Neck to neck with the 70s lineup @@redshift912
I love how Bill Bruford's snare drum sound changes just at the right times to add a punchy edge when the song approaches zenith. Very simple rhythmically but precise and nuanced when appropriate.
For me, the mostest, bestest Crimson song. Sounded just like this, exactly like this, front row at the old SD theater in '81. Absent lovers... absent lovers... absent... Remarkable. Starts just like it finsihes. Remarkable.
They're going to be here month after next. If I didn't loathe concerts I'd go just on the odd chance I'd get to see this.
One of the Crimson songs of all time
The second half of this song is so good
No kidding! All of it is so far removed from whatever I heard the first time I heard, and turned my nose up at, King Crimson.
Amazing.
As it is the first part
i forgot how good this album was Jesus Christ

Such a strange, but hypnotically wonderful song, the groove is just infectious!
It reminds me of black hole sun by soundgarden, has a disjointed but harmonic movement that's beautiful. I think they are both in G as well.
@@econogate It reminds me a Japan or Talking heads ;)
The man with a volume knob on his voice.
As a burned out traveling service tech for many years, I can relate to this song. Great musicians making great music.
It's a tough life. I spent years driving to hospitals to fix MRI machines, and this album was often in my car's cassette player.
From one burned out traveling service tech to another: Cheers.
It's almost like they wrote this song for a musical drama/movie in mind the way they came up with the composition structure. It's quite something you might not be expecting for them yet it works somehow and is actually great.
the entire album is based on the beat literature era, so yeah pretty good right
@@HazardProfile Yeah, I know that. Personally speaking, this song is one of those kind that has a unique place in my heart :-)

100% agree
I always thought of 80s King Crimson songs as a great potential for movie soundtracks
And when I was younger I used to watch movies with my mother every single day (at least 1-2 movies), and whenever we were waiting for a movie to start the two songs I played the most were "Neal and Jack and Me" and "Sartori in Tangier"

I love everything about this song, including the Stick with volume pedal at the end. Such a brilliant emotive album.
Thank - you . Beginning 1971? I exposed my mind to also this type of jazz after: the Mother's of Invention; Pink Floyd; "I Talk to the Wind" ; "Green Eyed Lady" (Sugarloaf) ; "the Doors: Roxy Music; many songs : "Spirit in the Sky": " Cadence and Cascade " ; wonderful (St. John's, NFLD.) radio mix era . Yes, I first heard Robert Fripp on AM radio , then (1970) . I first soared to : " The Heavenly Music Corporation " (on AM radio) in 1973. Thank - you .
Have this song in my head since I first bought this album. A song written and performed by geniuses.
I have this record on Vinyl 🖤
I just bought it. Not so easy to find!
@@KC9UDX I see it all the time in Italy
What's it like listening to it in Vinyl?
Any way to describe it or no?
@@jayjay86443 I don't get to sit round listening. But usually there's more dynamic range with vinyl. This is something people don't talk about because most people listen to music with a lot of compression.
I mostly like records because they're tangible and have substance. If I'm still alive in thirty years, it'll still play, just like it does today. It won't disappear or go corrupt, and future record companies can't hack my account and delete it because I didn't pay the monthly fee.
I'm wheels
Wunderbar ! Caught them live 5 times plus many solo. It doesn’t get better then Crimson !
Neil Cassidy, Jack Kerouac... the Merry Pranksters. Great track.
On a list of KC:s 25 best songs, this one belongs, definitely!
also very similiar to Talking Heads circa Fear of Music/Remain in Light, the band in which Adrian Belew was one of key figures
Life-changing record for me, still sounds amazing all these years later!

love when the second verse slams in and the Kerouac lines start ripping!!! HURRY UP AND WAIT, HURRY UP AND WAIT, HURRY UP AND WEEEEHEEEEEIGHT !!!
Ya know, for years I was only familiar with the Crimson albums, before 74. I didn't hear the reformation album, til several years after they came out. But, I was also a Zappa fan. So, it was a nice surprise to find out that Adrian Belew was the new member and main vocal on those next 3 KC albums, kuz I liked his work on Zappa's Sheik Yerbouti album. And to this very day, I still can't listen to the three KC comeback albums, without thinking, "city of tiny lights... don't you wanna go?..." That's not a bad thing! Kuz, I love both!... Zappa and KC. I know Adrian also did some solo stuff, too, which I never got around to checking out.
AAhhh~! So glad there is appreciation for this band~! Saw them as a younger person ;) GREAT TALENTS~!! :)
