4k for a commercial freeze dryer is actually a steal haha. Working in the food industry and going through culinary classes, I can say that some of these freeze dryers can be tens of thousands of dollars at the high end

9:43 yeah- in my tasting experience that style of gummy isn’t great when freeze dried. The sour gummy worms are ok, but those other gummies are a strange consistency in their original form and are VERY hard. I’ve had a variety of skittles freeze dried, those are always incredible. Starburst, jolly rancher, fruit roll ups. I’m traditionally NOT a big chocolate fan, but tootsie rolls are great freeze dried! While I’ve noticed that fruity flavors seem to intensify during freeze drying, the tootsie rolls didn’t really intensify in chocolaty flavor. It was subtle, but nice!
I would love to see some freeze dried fruit (is it possible to make cake decor out of if? like cookie cutter shaped fruit chips?), and can you freeze dry weird things like hard boiled egg slices or grapes? 👀
