    This guide is outstanding, I have played a few runs and didn’t know half of this stuff. Best beginner’s guide I’ve seen. Great work.

      I appreciate it. There are many other good players out there, too, dozens of ways to play, and tons MORE detail I didn't get into, but I aimed to help newer, frustrated players at least get the important basics covered so they can complete a successful run.

      Glad you got some useful notes out of it! There are a million little tricks that add up to making the game more manageable, but it's not like the old days with a thick manual that explains it all. As we get to the point that we the band levels up and we get more equipment, we'll start talking leveling up options and gear/weapon choices

      Glad it's working for you. The whole point was to help new players get just the basics of the game understood so they could play successfully. The game is tough, but fair...it's just it can take people dozens of hours to learn those fundamentals, and many get burned out before then

    Would've been cool if you could elaborate on how you determine which bro is decent and which one is trash. Like what are avarage stats values for each stat etc.

      Okay so it's been a month so I reckon there's a chance this is still useful to you or ohter reader at least:
      There's a small and very non-invasive mod that's called "smart recruiter" or "smart recruiting", that shows the stars and skill ranges that brothers can roll upon recruiting before you recruit.
      From there your planning is significantly easier.
      Saved me a LOT of save/loads and overall smoothens the experience of recruiting to a point that I wouldn't miss it on any campaign.
      Give it a shot!! :)

    Hey thanks for this guide. I've been playing as a beginner with high starting funds.
    I usually always make a "berserker" character from the beginning and he only wields the woodcutter axe with high armor and colossus perk.
    He deals insane amounts of damage and kills A LOT, so I was interested to know if this is only possible due to playing on beginner (with high funds) since you did call it a trap at around 1:03:13
    I usually protect him with spearmen while he deals with an enemy one by one

    • @GrimaldiJ
      @GrimaldiJ  2 года назад +3

      As you mention, you can have shield/spear guys protect and shepherd an early game 2H guy along, and it might work out okay. Several top players specifically focus on funneling as many kills as possible to their top characters early on, to get them leveled up as quickly as possible. Being on easy difficulty probably helps with this. At higher difficulties, fights will be tougher, with more opponents, and it will be much harder to limit how many people swarm your 2H guy.
      If it's working, though, you don't have to change! Maybe your tactics are sound, engagement choice good, etc. But, for a lot of new players, they try to stick with a 2H weapon and limited armor, and it only takes one or two misses with the axe to let an enemy hit you back several times, often with fatal results.

    It's 50% more damage for 2H weapons because the offhand counts as half.

    • @GrimaldiJ
      @GrimaldiJ  2 года назад +2

      But only on some weapons. 2 handed weapons with reach do the same damage as listed on the weapon. 2 handed cleavers (that don't have reach, but can swing twice) do the same damage as listed on the weapon...it's just two handed, non-reach weapons that take more than 4 action points to swing that do more damage with the basic swing than the weapon says it does, which is a strange niche and not clear to many players.

    Helpful video. The game is in my wishlist but i'm having second thoughts about getting it due to it not being beginner friendly. I might have to pick it up :)

    • @GrimaldiJ
      @GrimaldiJ  2 года назад +4

      It's...weird. It's not beginner friendly in a few ways:
      1-there is a LOT of depth to the game, and it really isn't explained well
      2-most similar games expect you to start on "standard" difficulty, and you're expected to take most fights. This game very much means it when it recommends starting on easy, and (like Elden Ring, or real life) you need to choose your fights carefully.
      3- it's very open world, so while there are many paths to success (and you get to define "success"), none of them are shown to you, so you kind of stumble around the first few runs just trying to survive. Once you get survival down, you can start trying for thriving and success!
      The not beginner-friendly reputation is a bit unfair, because it's not like there are cheap traps you can only avoid through playing, or it's impossible to win on your first run through and you need to unlock equipment and abilities...it's perfectly fair and skill based...it just takes time and a certain strategic mindset to develop the skills to win!

      That's actually a really good point...probably should have just started with the default origin for a beginner-type video. I've played so much, I kinda forgot it wasn't standard, and was really focused on the early lesson of purging mediocre Brothers because they're actually a major liability.
      Glar to hear you got some useful tips out of it regardless! Good luck to you!
