XD i play this amazing instrument at my school. We have gone all over the country and played at tons of major music festivals. My favorite song we have played is All about that Bass My meghan trainor.
Ethan Whiting that is the truth. I have the greatest (in my opinion) drum teacher in the world but it still took me months to learn how to play with 4 mallets. :P
This is also a different setting. With marching band you typically have a conductor to lead you as well as several other players on the same part. In this case he is playing several different parts in one take, AND he is able to have them to line up which as a very hard achievement especially with no metronome or headphones to hear other parts.
your technique is simply superb. reminds me of high school... I played marimba then. most other videos I find are terrible because of sound quality, because they don't know the proper way to strike with the mallet. you can't simply hit it, there is an area where you should strike and getting the mallet to kind of rebound or bounce off of the instrument gets that lovely resonant sound. very well done.
I love when percussionist step out from the background and get to play the melody. It's so cool to hear. I'm a percussionist my self but I like to play snare more
What a wonderful arrangement! I am a music teacher, and my students are always mesmerized when I show them this video. You have many young fans in North Carolina! :)
In Guatemala, the Marimba is our national instrument, we have special melodies. I´m proud that our national instrument inspire others to creat music without limits. CONGRATS! Maikel2play.
Out of all the instruments, I think that the marimba, or at least the way this guy plays the marimba, really captures the magic-y essence of the books and movies!
Dylan harris Yepp, not like the Dursleys though. You uh... kind of missed that part of my sentence didn't ya. It's okay, reading comprehension is difficult.
Tyrael Archangel you clearly didnt structure your sentence very well. all you did was give an example of muggles, you never stated whether you were talking about character or just the inability to use magic.
Dylan harris I quote myself: "...muggles LIKE THE DURSLEY'S", i.e. muggles who hate magic. Hence why there are dislikes from them, because they're muggles LIKE THE DURSLEY'S, whom hate magic. The other muggles here enjoyed this video, because we like magic. Reading comprehension. The fact I am a muggle, which you brought up, was already validated by my comment, I know I'm a muggle, but since I'm not like the Dursely's (in the way that I don't hate magic) I liked this video. Seriously, it was a 7 word sentence and you basically sipped the last three?
I agree. Mr. Williams is the best composer for films. "A window to the past" is my favorite melody. It reflects sadness, melancholy and hopefulness for the future. Thank you for this interpretation!
I was wondering the same thing but at the end of the song, you can see he has earphones in. I just don't think anyone could keep the tempo for that long on 5 instruments without some kind of help.
Can't say how he did it, and regardless of how, it's very impressive and a great job, but one way of doing this is to record the first (and longest, most complete track) and then play that back at a very low level as you record the other layers. Since the first layer is then brought up in the mix of the later layers, it easily covers any "echo" of having two tracks of it playing.
Oh my goodness, three things I love in this video: a talented musician, a John Williams medley, and Harry Potter. Thanks for the upload, your playing definitely gave me shivers! :)
if we think about youtube's new policy, having your work appearing in my home page is huge : meaning people are actually listening your music to the end! I absolutely loved it, it was brilliant. Keep going!
Good afternoon from Catania, Sicily. You're wonderfully gifted. The sound of your Marimba is fantastic and your cover is amazing. See you in Sicily soon!
***** Having no fluctuation in tempo across multiple recordings seem pretty dang impressive if you ask me. Though I guess he might have had to try multiple times with some of them and we're only seeing the successful version.
dude keep doing what you're doing... if you are having fun that is what counts having a passion for music is a mix of styles. Some people just don't see that. Its those people that don't understand how hard it is to get every part just right so it doesn't overlap... you have to have perfect timing and tempo. you are amazing for what you do and don't let anyone ever try to crush your passion. you have my like and subscription from me. :)
Hi! You are absolutely amazing!! Is there any chance you would be willing to part with the music scores for this composition? Please?? So that I can learn it too! Thanks :)
... there was that moment where I just completely forgot just one person was playing it, and not a professional orchestra kind of thing. >.< So amazing.
redhed645 Xylophones are made of different wood (I want to say it's thicker and more woody but that just doesn't sound right or professional), giving a lot less deep pitches as the marimba. Also, a Xylophone doesn't contain as many octaves as the Marimba either.
The way that it's notated is also different. Xylophone transposes everything up an octave so everything is higher than it is written. It also has more of a "bite" or aggressiveness to the sound than the marimba which is more mellow
Actually, marimbas do not have metal keys. I think what you're thinking of is a vibraphone. But, marimbas like vibraphones have metal tube resonators under the keys to help the sound project
@@ashginsberg7472 it is very impressive, don't get me wrong, but if you are seeking just the marimba and don't want other sounds with it other than the marimba, you may become particularly picky like this if that makes sense
It may not be perfect, but the fact that he had the guts to post this even though he knows he'd get hate and the fact that he practiced all of these to get it perfect and aligned is very respectable.
You are a really good mallet player. I'm the best at my school, and I just wanted to say that you've been an inspiration for me. Keep bringing the videos, man. Also, I watched your videos for a long time, but I never subscribed.
You are an amazing musician! I'm so glad I found this on Pinterest. My kids loved it too! We can't wait to watch all of your videos. Please keep sharing your talent.

+Mollie Lynn Jean is your band core or military style?
military style.
Crazy Pug no such thing as 'talent' only skill, one is not born being able to play the marimba.
Ethan Whiting that is the truth. I have the greatest (in my opinion) drum teacher in the world but it still took me months to learn how to play with 4 mallets. :P

Why haven't I found this earlier?? You are officially my hero now.
Theres not enough time in the world to be able to watch this over and over again. Too great.
와 소리 진짜 좋다...💜
It's a bells, vibes, AND marimba medley!
THAT'S WHAT I'M SAYING!
Amazing how marimbas and xylophones can sound like a whole orchestra when played so well.
You made a mysterious song even more mysterious!!! I love it!!!
This is pretty good! I never thought marimba can be used as an epic orchestra.
Shachar Har-Shuv look up this composer named "Dimitri Shostakovich". He uses marimbas all the time.
wow. just WOW. amazing, you're a real talent! Just as good as the originals, if not better :3
the original was on a celeste which is like a piano but with bells inside
AVeryProfessionalFangirl wow
Hearing from 3:01, it feels as if Harry is in his Quidditch robe and has his hand out for me with the face like "Come on, let's go to Hogwarts"!

Simply brilliant! Definitely with you that John Williams is the best composer ever.
Wait no metronome or anything... how did you keep in time? Just by knowing the tempo and being consistent?? Because if so PROPS
I was wondering the same thing but at the end of the song, you can see he has earphones in. I just don't think anyone could keep the tempo for that long on 5 instruments without some kind of help.
You just get the tempo after a while
Can't say how he did it, and regardless of how, it's very impressive and a great job, but one way of doing this is to record the first (and longest, most complete track) and then play that back at a very low level as you record the other layers. JustBen is relatively easy if u know it really well
JustBen he could have muted the metronome In the editing and had it on in the recording...?

oh yes harry potter the hobit jedi who had to return the rings to where it was made to destroy the deathstar accompanied by spock

How do you do this you must have to get the timing perfect
Theduckhunter50 time and practice
