Maikel van den Boomen (16-years-old) plays his own written 'Harry Potter Medley' on a 5-octave Marimba, a Vibraphone and a Glockenspiel. It's composed by John Williams. In my opinion, the best film music composer in the world.

Danielle Darling Ikr, the beginning gave me goosebumps. I'm in band and that never happens!
Lol nice one
People are so talented and I am just sitting here watching these people win at life while I nom nom on my bag of chips.
XD i play this amazing instrument at my school. We have gone all over the country and played at tons of major music festivals. My favorite song we have played is All about that Bass My meghan trainor.
+Mollie Lynn Jean is your band core or military style?
military style.
Crazy Pug no such thing as 'talent' only skill, one is not born being able to play the marimba.
Ethan Whiting that is the truth. I have the greatest (in my opinion) drum teacher in the world but it still took me months to learn how to play with 4 mallets. :P
Once a Potterhead,
always a Potterhead
Always ❤
Emily Ackerson -
Yeah, always DeAd
potterhead where you at
Nicole Jackson 100th like
Once a pothead, always a pothead
Makes me want to go watch all the movies again and cry 😭😳

Fanny wong stay in band! 😆
Fanny wong I'm lucky I am still in band, it's my favorite and last class of the day.
Fanny wong is that possible?
(Band is boring)
Wow he is impressive. It's takes a lot of practise and concentration to be able to do this
Maya C practise?
Salt Fiesta yeah
Maya C it's practice
Ghostly Sik ooohh sorry
@@mayacnz replying after 2 years. Seems legit
I love when percussionist step out from the background and get to play the melody. It's so cool to hear. I'm a percussionist my self but I like to play snare more
the guy is 16-years-old... I'm this guys age, and you know the rest
I'm 20, and my biggest daily acchivment is remembering to eat frequently.
15; could probably do half of what he does
This is also a different setting. With marching band you typically have a conductor to lead you as well as several other players on the same part. In this case he is playing several different parts in one take, AND he is able to have them to line up which as a very hard achievement especially with no metronome or headphones to hear other parts.
he was your age. 5 years ago
idoldod clarinet and percussion are nothing alike
your technique is simply superb. reminds me of high school... I played marimba then.
most other videos I find are terrible because of sound quality, because they don't know the proper way to strike with the mallet. you can't simply hit it, there is an area where you should strike and getting the mallet to kind of rebound or bounce off of the instrument gets that lovely resonant sound.
very well done.
50 points to Gryffindor!
Pik0 m0n and 100 to Ravenclaw :-)
5 million to Slytherin
FCK YOU DON'T STEREOTYPE PEOPLE IN THAT HOUSE (me included)
Stephen Owens Jesus Christ chill out mate.
150 to slytherin btw
It's a bells, vibes, AND marimba medley!
THAT'S WHAT I'M SAYING!
Amazing how marimbas and xylophones can sound like a whole orchestra when played so well.
What a wonderful arrangement! I am a music teacher, and my students are always mesmerized when I show them this video. You have many young fans in North Carolina! :)
Why haven't I found this earlier?? You are officially my hero now.
This is pretty good! I never thought marimba can be used as an epic orchestra.
Shachar Har-Shuv look up this composer named "Dimitri Shostakovich". He uses marimbas all the time.
You made a mysterious song even more mysterious!!! I love it!!!
Hearing from 3:01, it feels as if Harry is in his Quidditch robe and has his hand out for me with the face like "Come on, let's go to Hogwarts"!
Theres not enough time in the world to be able to watch this over and over again. Too great.
I've watched this too many times... I think i found my happy place:)
Wait no metronome or anything... how did you keep in time? Just by knowing the tempo and being consistent?? Because if so PROPS
I was wondering the same thing but at the end of the song, you can see he has earphones in. I just don't think anyone could keep the tempo for that long on 5 instruments without some kind of help.
You just get the tempo after a while
Can't say how he did it, and regardless of how, it's very impressive and a great job, but one way of doing this is to record the first (and longest, most complete track) and then play that back at a very low level as you record the other layers. Since the first layer is then brought up in the mix of the later layers, it easily covers any "echo" of having two tracks of it playing.
JustBen is relatively easy if u know it really well
JustBen he could have muted the metronome In the editing and had it on in the recording...?
와 소리 진짜 좋다...💜
In Guatemala, the Marimba is our national instrument, we have special melodies. I´m proud that our national instrument inspire others to creat music without limits. CONGRATS! Maikel2play.

I find you, confusing, Master Potter
Imagine making fun of other movies and shows with an anime pfp lol
*confused confusing confusion*
Star Wars? And Harry Potter?
Oh my goodness, three things I love in this video: a talented musician, a John Williams medley, and Harry Potter. Thanks for the upload, your playing definitely gave me shivers! :)
Oh my! Sounds just like it! Love it!

108 people are muggles like the Dursleys.
you are a muggle
Dylan harris Yepp, not like the Dursleys though. You uh... kind of missed that part of my sentence didn't ya. It's okay, reading comprehension is difficult.
Tyrael Archangel you clearly didnt structure your sentence very well. all you did was give an example of muggles, you never stated whether you were talking about character or just the inability to use magic.
Dylan harris
I quote myself: "...muggles LIKE THE DURSLEY'S", i.e. muggles who hate magic. Hence why there are dislikes from them, because they're muggles LIKE THE DURSLEY'S, whom hate magic.
The other muggles here enjoyed this video, because we like magic.
Reading comprehension.
The fact I am a muggle, which you brought up, was already validated by my comment, I know I'm a muggle, but since I'm not like the Dursely's (in the way that I don't hate magic) I liked this video.
Seriously, it was a 7 word sentence and you basically sipped the last three?
Tyrael Archangel Now 119 :(
You have all of my respect after hearing this
Good afternoon from Catania, Sicily. You're wonderfully gifted. The sound of your Marimba is fantastic and your cover is amazing. See you in Sicily soon!
Stunning, as always.
This guy freakin deserves to be known tho
Maikel van den Boomen, You rule.
You deserve so much more attention. That was brilliant! Keep up the good work!
you are amazing, no words to compliment your magical performance. I am stunned.
this made me go watch the 1st movie again lol
philosopher's stone is always the bestttt
trueeeee!
Here in Texas
We call it scorcorers stone book and movie
Wow, how was he keeping time the whole time? I don't see any ear buds in his ears for a metronome to be playing through or anything.
Obvious ninja Muscle memory?
Luannea Blank I don't think that's how it works.
***** Having no fluctuation in tempo across multiple recordings seem pretty dang impressive if you ask me. Though I guess he might have had to try multiple times with some of them and we're only seeing the successful version.
it's not that hard really
+Marching Band Nerd Well then where's your video of you doing exactly that?
This is so good even with the bit that you added to the original score.
Brilliant!
GREAT! Amazing amount of work; very well done!!!

Hi! You are absolutely amazing!! Is there any chance you would be willing to part with the music scores for this composition? Please?? So that I can learn it too!

Wow. You're the best. I've been wanting to play the bell part forever! Anyways keep up the great work!
1:04 and i cant play even play with one stick....
Holy crap bells and vibraphones are marimbas
oh my rowling! this is amazing!
WOW! Just WOW!
I need an album from this guy!
How do you do this you must have to get the timing perfect
Theduckhunter50 time and practice
You can see at the end of the video that he's got earphones in... probably a metronome or something...
Pretty sure there's more than just the marimba -_- just say mallets, yuh goof
Butterderpz once you are this good you can critique something as little and ridiculous as that.
I was thinking the same thing. It looks like "Harry potter theme on glockenspiel, vibraphone, and marimba".
@@ashginsberg7472 it is very impressive, don't get me wrong, but if you are seeking just the marimba and don't want other sounds with it other than the marimba, you may become particularly picky like this if that makes sense
I agree. Mr. Williams is the best composer for films. "A window to the past" is my favorite melody. It reflects sadness, melancholy and hopefulness for the future. Thank you for this interpretation!
The two guys on the top must have practiced for hours to get the 16th notes, back and forth, to flow so well together. Great job guys.
whats the difference between a xylophone and a marimba?
redhed645 Xylophones are made of different wood (I want to say it's thicker and more woody but that just doesn't sound right or professional), giving a lot less deep pitches as the marimba. Also, a Xylophone doesn't contain as many octaves as the Marimba either.
thank you for the explanation
The way that it's notated is also different. Xylophone transposes everything up an octave so everything is higher than it is written. It also has more of a "bite" or aggressiveness to the sound than the marimba which is more mellow
marimbas have metal keys where a xylophone is made of wood
Actually, marimbas do not have metal keys. I think what you're thinking of is a vibraphone. But, marimbas like vibraphones have metal tube resonators under the keys to help the sound project
Where my Slytherin bros?
Woooow ! Great arrangement !
those marimba splits though!!! nice job man
Simply brilliant! Definitely with you that John Williams is the best composer ever.
oh very cool, thanks for transcribing and sharing your piece!
This is amazing! Fantastic job! :)
This is actually amazing. Like, I'm awe struck. Wow, great playing, man!
Omg this is AMAZING!!! I'm so glad I randomly clicked on your video and this stuff deserves more views.
Your arrangement and your playing are amazing!
That is so so cool!! I love it!! You're awesome!!
Oh my god, it's so wonderful, i could cry..
Wonderful Maikel !!
... there was that moment where I just completely forgot just one person was playing it, and not a professional orchestra kind of thing. >.< So amazing.
fantastic!!! Love it!
Brings back so many good memories..
