6:38 begins the Fortune incident. Fortune's controller plug falls out early in the match and SG (the guy he was facing) paused the game to allow him to plug his controller back in. He then says that SG needs to SD (basically fall off the stage to lose a stock) because SG paused during the match. It's so rude because SG was trying to give him a fair fight but instead tries to gain an advantage from it. At 11:55 is the MikeHaze incident. The explanation is on the screen. It's basically him yelling at his opponents' face to make him miss his grabs.
That is so bullshit. If someone paused and my controller was out by accident, win or lose I'd have mad respect for the person cuz that's good sportsmanship.
First off I take offense to that since Im actually autistic dude. Second its people who are seeing bad sportsmanship, in a game people are passionate about. Third dont act all high and mighty dude like your above it all.
BlackSilhouette In that situation you do shake their hand but only after you've beaten them. And I'm not talking about close matches, I'm talking, you absolutely destroy them. You make them wish they played another game. You drag them through their beating in a set. And when it's all over, you look them in the eye and go for the handshake. If they accept, then you've humbled your opponent. If not, they just showed why they aren't worthy of anyone's respect
BlackSilhouette Honestly bragging, taunting, and trash talk have purposes in the competitive scene. It’s one of the psychological components of the game and it doesn’t always work (ie. taunt to get bodied).

In order to provide a bit more context because this is the most popular video on Fortune's clip (the clip at 6:50) and since I see no one else clarifying, Fortune was simply joking, and he and SG were (even after) good friends. The clip was a misunderstanding and they both knew each other and were friendly with each other. It's taken out of context because of the tournament commentator's (understandable) reaction, but it was simply a joke that Fortune made with SG that went a bit too far. SG didn't take his stock and they continued. He struggled with the backlash against it. He was constantly facing ridicule online, and was even facing threats for it. Fortune passed away on April 30th, 2022. Please don't insult him like many still are nowadays off this one out-of-context clip. Everyone who knew him well always considered him a pleasant, nice, and patient person. He never revealed his pain and please do not go looking and searching for the answers. All of this is kept private for a reason. Please remember to not mock and hate and especially send threats to people online when you don't even know them and what they're going through. May he rest in peace.
Fortunes Logic: "He paused, he has to SD, because that's how the rules are. I unplugged the controller, but I shouldn't lose the match, even though that's how the rules are." 10/10, not counterintuitive AT ALL. Kappa
Villager No, that counts for other fighting games. That may be the case for Melee tournaments as of now too, but it simply wasn't in the rules back then. You can even hear Omni stumble when he was told it was not a rule. Yes, it makes sense for it to be a rule, but it simply wasn't back then. Fortune acted like a complete scumbag, but people are simply making up rules to combat it.

Sooooooooo scummy. The poor guy felt bad and wanted to beat you fair and square rather than a flat DQ and he treats him like shit......kudos for the commentators for calling him out on that.
@celz olsen if you pause the game your opponent can decide if you foirfeit one life, and if you unplug your controller the rules take it as if you abandoned the game and give the win to the opponent, but the guy unplugged the thing by accident, his opponent paused the game so he could plug it back and they would keep playing, he was being very sportsmanlike and the guy tried to use the rules so the guy who paused would lose one life even though he could've not paused and killed him while the controller was off, or even called for a win this game since the guy technically forfeited buy removing his controller. Man, I sure miss it when Smash Bros. controversies were actually related to the game and tournaments and were not some heavy social drama that blew up on Twitter.
Just to clarify. Hbox vs wobbles isn't controversial because "omg I thought we had more matches to play" it's controversial because in a Bo3 there's stage bans. In a Bo3 without stage bans, Marth vs Fox matchup on a competitive level is essentially decided on game 1, because *if Fox loses he cannot prevent Marth from picking FD on game 3* and sewing up the set. In a Bo5, there are no stage bans, because there's plenty of games to compensate for a polarizing stage in a matchup. Each player will likely have a heavily favored stage and the rest of the match will be determined by how well the neutral stages are played. They played the set thinking it's a Bo5. So Hbox didn't ban any stages. Neither did Wobbles. That's the controversial bit. That's why Wobbles just sat there for a bit. They didn't play a Bo3 up to that point and he knew it was all messed up, but the game stands as called. Hbox agreed on that premise. Good sports in a bad situation. "UCF off imo should be replayed"leff should learn from this.

D1 is a real one.
The Fortune and MikeHaze clips were absolutely disgusting. Absolutely no respect for them whatsoever and I hope that every game they play, they lose.
Which clip was that and what happened. I’m very confused
Smokey McJoint
Wait, so why are you here?
I don’t care how bad you beat me, I’m shaking your hand, it’s common respect. That said, I wouldn’t shake Fortunes hand after that shit
It’s one of the psychological components of the game and it doesn’t always work (ie. taunt to get bodied).
i dont get it so he paused it and won? or he lost and still got booed
CommonFolksMan the Fortune situation was in the beginning his controller unplugged and SG paused so he could plug it back. But then Fortune was saying SG should SD since he paused the game. And I believe Fortune won in the end

I just found out about his passing. Insane. I hope the backlash and harassment didn't have anything to do with it.

Fortunes Logic:
"He paused, he has to SD, because that's how the rules are.
I unplugged the controller, but I shouldn't lose the match, even though that's how the rules are."
10/10, not counterintuitive AT ALL. Kappa
Nareth Erakian Even though he was scummy, unplugging the controller is not a rule. The commentators were just being extremely salty.
ChaosChicken200 It is a rule, unplugging means that you’ve ejected from the game, and instead of losing a stock or a match, you’ll be instantly dqed.

@celz olsen if you pause the game your opponent can decide if you foirfeit one life, and if you unplug your controller the rules take it as if you abandoned the game and give the win to the opponent, but the guy unplugged the thing by accident, his opponent paused the game so he could plug it back and they would keep playing, he was being very sportsmanlike and the guy tried to use the rules so the guy who paused would lose one life even though he could've not paused and killed him while the controller was off, or even called for a win this game since the guy technically forfeited buy removing his controller. i wouldn't have played on tbh

He didn't concede the loss, I'm pretty sure in the video they said that he was the one who called out the knock back settings. I may have misheard that though. Either way, bitch made.
+Jose you don't deserve respect fi you play bayo !
clovism96 you don’t deserve respect if you whine about bayonetta and not learning how to play against her

Imagine trying to be nice to someone by pausing the game so the opponent didnt dir bc there controller got unplugged (SG)
And then the opponent tries to pull a cheeky move from your kind gesture (Fortune)
*screams of the damned*
K.K. : "wey wah wah wee wah"
HAHAHAHAHHSHSHXJSIW
pausing should be turned off whenever the option is available
It's a good way to win against the salty people
Real competitive games have the pause being activated by hold so that accidental presses can't happen...
E Hoppz lmao
Mr.Mugen93 So tell me, what is a real competitive game?
Every fighting game released since Skullgirls invented "hold to pause" has had hold to pause. Smash doesn't.
Fortune was a scum bag for that
The wobbling one got me so hard man. I can’t blame him.
12:10 A literal "REEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE"
more like a raaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa
Why is he screaming so ugly??? I wanna slap this dude 😡😡😡
it more like "BAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA"
more like a wwrrrrrrrrrrrrrrryyyyyyyyyyyy!
Somebody punch 👊🏻that dude in the throat that’s disrespectful and very unsportsmanlike.
MikeHaze should have been DQed and banned after that shit
*AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA*
That wasn't an official tournament match, though.
Oh good, then there was also nothing stopping someone from smacking him upside the head, which is what should've happened.
Gameorama91 I would have fully supported him being smacked
owlflame bruh it was a money match
You know, Mew2King going back to the same stage isn't against the rules because the other player agreed to it. If the other player wanted to they could have stopped him but the Gentleman's Rule/Clause states that if both players agree they can play on any stage, banned or otherwise.
Floofzy Kitten only if the Gentleman's rule/clause actually is in effect in that tournament.
They are all salty piece of shits that m2k won so they had to get the most random bs excuse to take his win from him it makes no sense just cause he does well in fd
MeAsMyself that doesn’t make him wrong
MeAsMyself He's not wrong tho. Im surprised you got 10 likes with that stupid comment.
