    0:36 it reminds me on casual/formal summer look from late 40's and 50's. Young men wore T shirt in hot weather, paired with formal suit trousers. I think James Dean popularized jeans in mid 50's as casual pants.

    Good inspiration ✌️I sometimes do the t-shirt and sports coat look. Though I think that it is important to stress that not all jackets will work. The jacket really should be in a softer construction and in a fabric without too much shine, preferably with some texture (linen, cotton or a nice linen, wool and silk mix 🙂).

    • @karlr750
      @karlr750 2 года назад +2

      Shiny sports coats with a t-shirt just look wrong. Regarding texture, I've found that subtle patterns can provides some "texture," even if the fabric has none.
      I think t-shirts work well with both structured and unstructured jackets, depending on which ones flatter a person's body type. During the fall and winter, I'll often throw on a structured barleycorn tweed jacket over a long sleeve t-shirt when I go out to walk the dog, or for other jaunts around the neighborhood.
      Provided that unstructured jackets flatter a person, a t-shirt & sports coat look is the perfect excuse to pull out the unstructured jacket. I particularly like to do that with lightweight unstructured sports coats during the warmer months.

    • @Lassehansen3
      @Lassehansen3 2 года назад

      @@karlr750 Sure, my preference for an unstructured jacket might also be slightly biased as that is what I personally wear :) I agree that a good pattern also can work but I'm a sucker for texture, so that would be the route I would go. Additionally, I think this particular look looks the best with a "knitted" t-shirt, which looks like knitwear. Defiantly not a must but I believe that it helps significantly in bringing the dressy and casual elements of the look together, which might also be the reason why I have a preference for a softer constructed jacket.

    Thoughts on a Regular, Standard and Oversized Tee with slim fitting pants, denim etc?

    • @minibando3660
      @minibando3660 2 года назад +1

      Well, it's pretty much a rule to always contrast the fit of your top and bottom, so regular and oversized tees look good on a slimmer bottom. Of course, if you know what you're doing, you can always break these rules. I, for example just don't like wearing slim or skinny fitting pants, but if you wanna go safe you can always go back to contrasting both. So, yeah, those fit well together.

      @@minibando3660 what about snug tees and baggy pants.

    • @minibando3660
      @minibando3660 2 года назад +1

      @@renegaderens7369 Would be a good appliance of the rule. You're essentially just flipping the proportions from earlier. +You can tuck in the tee for a more seamless transition.
      Another little tip would be: (If you go to the gym) you can swap out the tee for a slim fitting tank top. Accesorize with a tote bag and you have a perfect fit for the current, hot summer weather.

    • @rosssmith9870
      @rosssmith9870 2 года назад

      The fit of your clothes is king. As Ashley confirmed. "Fit is crucial." The proper size in either classic fit (American cut), or slim fit ( European cut) is what you want. Skinny fit, baggy, or oversized clothes isn't the proper fit and not what you want for a good look. Overweight guys look better in classic, regular fit and slim normal weight guys look better in slim fit. The only issue I have in this video is the inseam length of the pants. To me the inseams are too short. They need to be an inch or two longer. Back in the day we called these high water pants.

    Weird that Miami Vice was alluded to as something to avoid but I do think the look you were suggesting is an evolution of what Miami Vice was going for in the 80s.
    Question though: these also work with plain long-sleeved t-shirts, right?

    • @karlr750
      @karlr750 2 года назад

      During the cooler months, my default uniform around the house is a long-sleeved waffle t-shirt and chinos. When I go outside, I usually throw on a barleycorn tweed sports coat over that. As an alternative to the tweed, I'll also wear a bomber jacket or Harrington jacket. All three of those work. I haven't tested the other two outfits, but they *should* work with a long-sleeved t-shirt.

      Agreed, I hate that look. In school I was teased about my high water pants. "When's the flood?". High water pants suggested you were poor and couldn't afford new proper fitting clothes as you were still wearing old clothes or hand me downs.

    • @rosssmith9870
      @rosssmith9870 2 года назад

      @@MensFashioner Pants made from the 1900's and up were made mostly of cotton, linen, and wool. These pants would shrink causing the inseam to shorten so I doubt ankle showing pants were fashionable for men. Polyester became popular in the 50's due to its nonshrink properties. As a tall man with long arms and legs buying clothes that don't shrink has been a difficult learning process. For pants and shirts I stick with a polyester, cotton blend such as 60/40 or similar. Wash in cold and hang dry. This has worked the best for me. I stay away from 90% to 100% cotton. They always shrink wasting my money. Sure I could buy larger and shrink to fit but that has been risky and if the results aren't right I can't return them.
