Love your show! And your “new” project coupe is a beaut. You asked for opinions: I would remove the fenders and aprons, sort the metal and repaint them. While off, I would carefully bring back the body paint as far as it will go (I have used Griot’s products with excellent results) then put the fenders back on with new welting. The interior is pretty nice, so some careful cleaning should make it very presentable. It’ll be fun to follow your progress!

Hi Paul Thanks for saving the coupe from becoming a Hot Rod. First I would make it safe to drive on the road and I know you will too. The body paint I think you are right just buff it out. Now for the fenders I would sand them down and repaint. Now I am cheap so what I mean by painting I mean Rustoleum Black High gloss. Not with spray cans but out of the quart can ($9). Apply it with a high density 4" foam roller. It is a long process and there is little mess and no over spray. I cut with 15% mineral spirits. Apply at least 5 thin coats(if to thick of a coat you will get orange peel) Let dry at least a day between coats. I lightly wet sanding (600,1000, 1500, 2000 grit) between coats. Last coat I add harder to the paint. Buff it out and it turns out pretty good. I used this on my 1930 TS and I have had many club members give me a thumbs up. To paint the fender it cost me less then $100. That's buying the paint, mineral spirits, tape, wet/dry paper, cheap buffer, pads and buffing compound. It just took time.
By the way the the "Dry and Wash" is a great product. It makes the paint and chrome look better then if it were waxed.
    Thanks Steve Barnacle

Wow, imagine a nice, complete car like this get cut up into a Hotrod.
I don't mind when people turn a rusted-out, half-disassembled parts car into a Rod... But this one? Ooof!
Here in Germany, practically every Model A is bone-stock and gleaming with fresh paint.
That dull, aged look makes it really appealing and stand out from the crowd!
What would you say about conserving it as it is - even with the rust spots? We have a product called "Owatrol" in Europe - it acts like a clear coat and rust preservant at the same time.
    Just my two cents :)

My vote is for a complete mechanical and electrical sort-out and then several gallons of elbow grease on the body, i.e. rubbing compound and polishing compound followed by wax. The bumps, blemishes and warts are part of its pedigree/history. Windshield replacement is a must. The little hole in the headliner may do with a careful patch. Don't buff it and that would add to the hot rod look. Step outside your comfort zone Paul and grow your channel.

I have a Mazda Miata and love it but I can't take people for a ride except one at a time. That's the downside of a coupe. Add me to the line of those interested in buying this one. It looks as if two years of Covid 19 travel restrictions may ease to the point where we can move back to California from Georgia. Chico is our target at this point. My Model A ownership began and ended with ‘31 coupe in 1955. As a kid who just achieved legal driving age, I was unable to afford the restoration work needed to upgrade body and interior of an otherwise strong and driveable car. So I sold it on to someone who could. Still grinding my teeth over that move.

    "Modern" Aluminium carburetor (increase reliability)

NOW, I’m looking for one like you have there to have a project to keep busy. I’d love to purchase that one as is except with new glass in w/shield. It would remain mostly like u intend to do it ( no modifications or hot rod) most repair what’s needed buff out the green and repair and paint the black. I am in the camp of leave it "mostly alone" in the case of appearance. My qualifications on that are the fenders and that one spot on the body with the dent and rust. I have no idea how that could be taken care of and match the paint. I just lack ANY experience in that regard. To me the running gear is the most important as well as the frame etc. Stuff that makes it a driver. I assume you are planning on parting with the car given your comments.
