1929 Ford Model A Special Coupe revival! Sat for a zillion years. Will it run?

  • This 1929 Ford Model A Special Coupe belonged to a club member's dad, who has passed on, and it sat for decades. They asked for help some time ago, and the guys who came over to help unfortunately made things worse. MUCH worse! So, it ended up at my dad's shop where we ended up removing the motor and doing a full rebuild on it, then pulling the old wiring and installing a brand new wiring harness. This Model A isn't quite up to being a daily driver, but we got it several steps closer to that goal. At least our fellow club member now has her dad's car running and driving, and can do tue little details as she enjoys it, and honors her dad. Paul Shinn's RUclips channel- www.youtube.com...
    I don't do work on Model A's for money, only helping fellow Sonora A's club members. I don't want the liability, and I have been burned way too many times. If you and I are ever hanging out sipping a cold sweet tea someday, I'll tell you some of the stories.
    This is a Vice Grip Garage (VGG) style "revival", not a full restoration or how-to. This is more like what Derek Bieri would do to get a car home and then that would be the last time you ever see it. Only Derek is a way better mechanic!

    Paul , Paul Mathews here , you work pretty darn hard for a guy not in the best of health . " I tip my hat to ya " !!
    and your right , when it becomes a business , then all the fun seems to disappear ! I will be 64 in June and am still working on
    MACK TRUCKS full time , and there is nothing more frustrating then to put a bunch of time & effort into rebuilding a MACK from the frame up some times , just to turn it over to some " TRAINED APE " aka a " driver " so they can take it out and beat the tar out of it !!! my biggest fun is taking one of those old CHAIN DRIVE " MACKS " from the 20s & 30s & do a frame up restoration on it ! keep up the hard work & great videos your making it happen !!

    Hi Paul a awesome Saturday morning for you, Jesus, you produced a footage exactly like I was wen I got my model A, 2 years ago.
    Well, at a certain point, although the bad connection was at the Amp meter, I had the bad connection on the light cup bold that connects the light cup to the light bar. Rust and other material just made an insulation that I could not figure out why no current at the bulb.
    But again, you made it again, great footage and making one feeling there with you and your father. Great people doing great things together, and as you said, me too, like to help other Model A owners, although here on the island of Curaçao there are only 4 model A’s, but they need there attention and I am, more than happy to give my experience and with your back up, to other Model A lovers. Thanks, Paul for this one again! God bless and my regards to Tina!

    Reminds me of last year when I redid all the harnesses in my 66 Corvair. The new harnesses were Plug N Play and it still took me 2-3 weeks to get the job done. But it was worth the effort, since my car's old wiring was an awful mess! Especially since the main 12v wire from the ignition to the engine compartment was fried...I bet the harness on the A is a lot simpler!

    Great video Paul. After I take care of a few morning chores, like feeding our chickens and the dogs and myself, I settle in and look for your Saturday video. Great job on the harness and I can see that A needs lots of TLC. One question for you. I saw a video several days ago on the Modal A AR. They explained the R in the numbering system in their parts inventory but there seemed to be a real gray area on what and AR car was and when the cutoff was. They mentioned that the hand brake on the left was a real clue as they were on most of the very early cars. More criteria focused on the very early bumpers as the ends were different and that was the first 200 or so cars before a change was made. This was the first I have heard of it. What do you think, or is this like opening up a discussion on the type of oil you should be using!!! The videos are great and now part of my Saturday morning. Have a wonderful weekend.

    • @ModelA
      @ModelA  2 года назад +1

      Thanks!! Ford never, ever made a Model AR. People call them that because parts for them were "Replaced" in the parts guide. When Ford would replace a part with a new one for the same car, the old part number got an "R" added to the end so you know that part (like the parking brake on the left) were replaced with different parts. That's all it means.

      Adding "R" after a Model A part that is replaced by a newer part is where that comes from. There is no such thing as a Model AR. The very early Model A's had parts that only fit them, and the part numbers were used for the newer parts also. To designate the older (replaced) part, you put the R at the end. That is all.

    Are the wiring harnesses wired the same for all A's? When ordering, do you have to specify what model it's for or they all the same. The length has got to be different model of car. Thanks!😊

    • @ModelA
      @ModelA  Месяц назад

      The difference is by year, and whether or not it has cowl lights, and what type of headlights (1 bulb or 2).

      People didn't used to be like that. Now, people won't even admit when something is their fault. There was a kid in our school like that when I was growing up. Everything he messed up was someone else's fault. He got beat up a lot.

    what is a stuck engine

    • @841k9
      @841k9 2 года назад

      Stuck is referring to an engine that will not turn.
      Sitting is hard on an engine. Temperature changes cause condensation inside the block which then leads to rust. Catastrophic failures while running (no oil, overheat, broken rod/crank) can also cause it to seize.

    • @ModelA
      @ModelA  2 года назад +1

      One that will not turn, won't even budge.
