BTW, I'm pretty sure I have the exact same guitar. Applause licensed by Ovation. It's a descent guitar (Hollow neck). Eventually I bought the Ovation Celebrity (Solid neck) much better, but still doesn't sound as good as my Takamine Dreadknot my most recent purchase.
Taylor and Martin are probably better guitars, but Takamine definitely comes in 3rd at a reasonable price. In that order too. Taylor, Martin, Takamine and then Ovation. But greats like John Denver played Ovation. I don't know if he did exclusively but I know that Ovation was his go to guitar for most performances.
I'm sure all the amps and electronics gave JD the sound he wanted, but acoustically with no electronics (or at least natural amplification) would favor Taylor, but unfortunately they are out of my price range.
