I think the reason Nirvana isn't sampled much is that they're not very "groove" oriented. They're more about cool chord progressions and catchy melodies.
I was really surprised seeing how much newer rappers respect Kurt. Going from 0- stupid famous in months as they do now cuz of social media, they gotta fight the same fight Kurt + Krist and Dave had to I guess
I just remembered Krist of Nirvana ironically said like“Next album will be a rap album. It’s about guns, money, sex and drag…” in a show around 1994. But true future became cooler than he thought, koz Nirvana gave big influence to great hip hop artists. In addition, I’ve gotta mention that my 13yrs son often listens to Nirvana songs on Apple Music, even though I’ve never recommended to him. I couldn’t imagine that when I was a kid and listening to Nirvana in 90s.😂
That's funny, reminds me of when i had just found smells like teen spirit and was listening to it in the car near my family and my mom was like "oh you like nirvana?"
Nirvana influenced 90's rappers in the sense that it changed the whole culture in general and introduced the trend of “real” instead of glittery. It affected hip-hop as well and so instead of Mc Hammer and Vanila Ice who were on top in 1991, we got Wu-Tang Clan, 2pac and Biggie by 1993. Today's rappers are all saying how Kurt Cobain influenced them, but I don't think you can call it influence. They like the sound of his songs, they like his striped sweater and weird glasses, they like that he's depressed but still cool. But they haven't adopted what Nirvana was all about - its ethics and aesthetics. If Cobain really influenced you, you wouldn't be singing about money, bitches, guns, lean and pills.
Post Malones did a whole Nirvana covers set he streamed during Covid as a fundraiser was incredible. He sounded unbelievable and was backed with travis barker on drums too. Well worth watching that if you can. Not even really a fan of his but that’s so good.
3MG song called sunsprayed. Also living legends song called 2010. Both super dope nirvana sampled songs. Eligh is an amazing producer. Oh and you can’t forget Z-Man 4 hours of sleep. Like track 12 I think is called oj Simpson and Courtney love.
Russian alternative band Психея sampled Smells Like Teen Spirit in their song "Убей мента". The song is banned in Russia and included in their register of extremist materials but you can still find the video on RUclips. And since you mentioned Prodigy - yeah, they had just phenomenal popularity. In the 90s, there was practically a war between different youth subcultures in the post-Soviet countries. There were three biggest groups - rockers, rappers and ravers. They distinguished their own from outsiders by their hoodies with prints. Rockers had Nirvana prints, rappers had Onyx prints, and ravers had Prodigy prints. All the walls were painted with the names of these bands or their logos. I remember myself drawing that angry Onyx face and wearing a Nirvana smiley face badge, even though I didn't even know they were music bands. I thought that's what those faces were called, lol. But I think both rockers and rappers secretly loved Prodigy. When they gave a concert at Red Square in 1997, there were ravers, rappers, punks and skinheads rocking out together.

If u wanna talk about references to Cobain in songs specifically that of more modern rap then u might as well mention an artist by the name of Lil Peep. He’s referenced him in songs like Cobain Nose Ring and others and many people say he was a similar persona as Cobain. RIP peep❤️Rip Cobain legends.
Haha, yeah, I noticed that too! Honestly, I'd rank Tenacious D as one of the legit greatest rock bands in history. Probably in the top twenty, IMHO. Hell, I'd rank Spinal Tap pretty high up there too! 😂
Melodies, chord progressions, etc, get reused all the time. It’s apart of being an artist, a good composer borrows, a great composer steals. Look at literally any Jazz song for example. It’s the same thing, you take what’s already made and make it anew.
There is sampling...and being being inspired by or... Kurt inspired me to my soul and you can hear him in me. but I would never "sample" anything as a songwriter. I don't know how to do that in these peoples minds respectfully. Or perhaps that it their way. Who am I too judge? If music has influenced you, it has worked.
i personally love sampling as an artform, but i think some of the songs in this video are gratuitous in their use of nirvana's music (you could argue kurt sampled on montage of heck, though in a much different way)

This comment is funny because nirvana’s sound is basically just punk with disco and funk drumming
@@HA11EYS_COM3T could you elaborate on disco drumming. I mean obviously its funk, rock is an echelon of funk.
