Lovely job pretty sure it's white oak it came from my sawmilling offcuts. If anyone is interested in milling there's a few videos on my channel thankyou.

Right near the end I became pretty sure that it was white oak based in the size of the rays. I surfaced hardwood lumber for about a decade. Nice bowl, Mike.

Mike, not only is that oak bowl stunning but I enjoy that you share that not everything goes perfectly even when you’re working. And you talked through options to recover from your fine piece of art flying halfway across the workshop. Fabulous job as always and thank you for joining me as I ate dinner.

OMG the moment it flew off was such a shock! But as you once said, a turner doesn't make mistakes, just smaller bowls. The result is amazing! Those swirls look like a Van Gogh painting.

It was quite a relief for both of us when you cut back the spongy areas only reveal more swirling grain. The black Milliput was a perfect complement to the general color of the bowl. You, and the mighty 1/2” bowl gouge, what a super combo! Great job Mike!👍🏻

It may sound like me being spiteful... but it is really comforting that I am not the only one who produces flying bowls when trying to hollow them out.
If a master like you lets bowls fly every now and then, then there is still hope for a hobbyist like me without being just straight to dumb.

Well, there's another amazing piece of art, Mike! I was concerned about the black putty, but seeing it finished, it didn't affect the appearance at all. It seemed to pull out the life and history of the wood. Have a great day! ❤😊
