    I do love this film but you can at times tell is was originally made as a movie inspired by Ultraman and not actually about Ultraman originally, but was later on, turned it into an Ultraman film which I’m pretty sure it was well-known and already admitted by the people who are working on the film about this it’s production

    My brother watched this with his kids just out of the blue and loved it. He told me he cried at the and I could see why. It was surprisingly emotional.
    I was also very pleased with the allegories and whatnot. Ken playing for the Giants, Emi representing how massive parenting can be, Ultraman himself representing being a better man, but failing when you're conflicted. I love it.

    The only explanation I can think of is that Gigantron must have laid the egg away from Kaiju Island, so that it would be safe from other Kaiju that would prey on it.

    I wholeheartedly disagree with your sentiments regarding Ultraman's origin. The movie throwing us in and expecting us to go with it may be an issue for some fans, but not for the new coming general audience. I honestly don't care about Ultraman's origin, and I don't wanna know. I actually appreciate that the movie does that with a "just go with it approach" and leaves it a mystery. The movie isn't expecting general audiences to magically know who Ultraman, only getting the important general idea across that he is a superhero that fights kaijū-that's it!

    Having only gone by your description of events the island thing is not really a plot hole, at least when you compare it to many real life examples. Some eel species in New Zealand are hatched hundred of miles away from the country only to naturally find their way back to that nation. It’s more common than you think, and probably even more logical. Assuming there’s a food chain on the island then it makes sense that creatures wouldn’t want to spawn there and look for places where there are less predators.

    • @josephgibson5902
      @josephgibson5902 14 дней назад +3

      Also only going off of Omni's description here. You raise a good point, but it still sounds like it is the kind of thing we should have been shown. Plot hole, maybe not, but it seems at least some level of plot convenience to the point of affecting story payoffs unless someone is able to make the right inference, as you have. An apt analogy I think is if you take any Mothra movie and cut out the part showing how the humans get her egg. There's nothing impossible there, and each Mothra movie with that plot device thought it through, but it's really the kind of thing we need to see

    • @omniviewer2115
      @omniviewer2115  14 дней назад +6

      I myself am going off of what the movie itself provides for this subplot, which is practically nothing.
      For the moment, though, let's be incredibly generous and assume the following: the reason people say Kaiju Island exists despite its location being unknown is because Kaiju have never been reported anywhere else in the world. They just come from the sea and land in Japan, then Ultraman sends them running back (since he only kills them as an absolute last resort in this universe). It's reasoned that the Kaiju have to come from and go somewhere, which means there must be an island they call home that's so remote, nobody has even landed there by accident.
      Right out of the gate, that assumption doesn't jive with the idea of Gigantron laying her eggs somewhere else. Such behavior would be anomalous for Kaiju, since the only other place they ever go is Japan. If true, though, that would also mean that Kaiju Island is a myth and Kaiju really can just appear anywhere for any reason, so there's no need for them all to hail from one place.
      But let's keep being generous and assume that Gigantron's anomalous spawning habit is normal for her, and she did lay the egg on a hypothetical second island. Wherever she did it, the evidence is clear that she's not the kind of creature who just dumps her egg and leaves; she's like an alligator, staying near the nest to protect it, only occasionally leaving for a few minutes to grab a bite. She's protective of her young, hence why she follows the KDF to Japan when they steal the egg. Given events from later in the movie, it's obvious that Gigantron would also continue protecting and raising Emi after the hatching.
      This makes Dr. Onda's plan to remove the egg and bring it to the mainland an unnecessary complication, not to mention reckless and stupid for all the death and destruction it causes. His better move upon finding the nest on this supposed second island would be to set up camp at a respectable distance, wait for the egg to hatch, use those drones to put tracking devices on Gigantron and Emi, then fire up the computer and see where they eventually stop. Mark that spot on the map, send some drones to confirm that it's Kaiju Island, and now he's got extra time and resources to plan his attack, no endangering of the mainland necessary.
      Then again, as mentioned, this particular Ultraman doesn't kill Kaiju if he can avoid it. He's obviously sent Kaiju retreating back to Kaiju Island before, as evidenced by both Gigantron and Neronga being repeat offenders. And retreat has to be the answer; he can't carry them back, or else Prof. Sato - the first Ultraman - would already know where the island is, which he doesn't. So, unless the tracking devices shown in the movie are a VERY recent invention, why didn't anyone in the KDF stick a tracker on a fleeing Kaiju years ago? Or maybe just have a boat follow at a distance?
      Instead, what we have in the movie is people knowing a location is real despite not knowing where it is, and the method chosen to find it either makes the villain a massive idiot, presupposes that the island's location actually is known, or calls the island's existence into question.
      I'm sorry, but this part of the movie really doesn't make sense in its current state. There's a lot of information missing, and what little we are presented with makes the movie nonsensical, hence why I still consider it a plot hole.
      Now, one way this could have been fixed is if the island's location was common knowledge, but the Kaiju won't let anyone near it. In that case, perhaps Onda steals the egg purely so he has an excuse to kill Gigantron and turn her into a superweapon that can get close and do damage. After that, he discards the egg since he doesn't need it anymore, then Ken finds it, and things progress from there as they do in the movie. That's just off the top of my head.

      Ultraman are mostly TV shows, and most of their movies are continuation of each TV show or a mash-up event like Avengers.
      The only Ultraman movies that you can independently watch are *Shin Ultraman* & *Ultraman* (2004).
      But if you don't mind watching a 90s TV show, go ahead and watch *Ultraman Gaia* since it's like watching Godzilla movies but with TV budget. The story is still pretty fun & strong though.

    Ok. So hot take from someone who knows NOOTHHHING about Ultraman. I've seen, like a couple pictures and vaugly know it's something made in Japan. That is the extent of my knowledge. That being said, I loved this movie. I thought it was cute, heartwarming and visually stunning. I liked the characters and story as well. For me, at least, I didn't really need an explanation of Ultraman's powers. I would have LIKED it, perhaps. But at no point did that actually take away from my enjoyment of the movie. The need to know was, "he get big, he fly, he fight kiju". And a gain, being a complete noob to the franchise I would be willing to watch more because of this.

As fate would have it unfold, this pre teen Godzilla purist first experience with the Ultraman series, was the episode where they had a knock off Godzilla with a stupid neck frill, get its ass beat by a bootleg Jet Jaguar lol. Im like HELL NO, that aint even it, how dare they dilute sheer perfection etc. etc. In fact, my purity test for Godzilla was so strict, I absolutely hated Hesei Burning Godzilla cause *my Godzilla only used blue atomic breath, never glowed orange, & certainly never got his ass whipped by another kaiju - let alone getting his ass killed by said kaiju. All that said, & as an adult, the Ultraman seems like its right down my alley, & Burning Godzilla is one of my favorite Godzilla depictions nowadays.Go figure

      If anything, it was Jet Jaguar & Zone Fighter which tried so hard to copy Ultraman.

      Ultraman has its roots in Ultra Q (a mystery & imaginative show like The Twilight Zone). So, an Ultraman show is usually about our protags investigating strange phenomenon in each episode like The X-Files instead of a straight-up superhero show like Batman 66 or Super Sentai/Power Rangers.
