next time I hear somebody say that the Genesis sound hardware was far weaker than SNES, I'll show em this. Just as good, if not better than the original version! nice work.
Rare’s sound engines for the SNES and Mega Drive were very simple in 1991-1993. Unfortunately, Rare also stopped developing MD games in 1993 This cover is how I would imagine their MD games would sound in 1994-present, just like how their SNES games sounded really good during that time.
Lotta arguments about the superiority of SNES vs Genesis soundchips, and the best way to explain it is: In the era of 1991, where your options are Crunchy Electric Bits, Low/Mid-quality Samples, or MIDI, which sounds best? It really depends on the feel and sound you're going for. This sounds more electronic and the original sounds more airy/natural, which in my opinion, makes the original slightly better for theming the game, being about monkeys trying to save their friends and island from an industrial foe. This isn't bad by any means, neither is the Genesis! Genesis definitely kicked it hard with things like Thunder Force and Comix Zone, where it was much more fitting than a SNES soundfont would have been!
Oh? Dude, this is one of the best covers I've ever heard! And I've heard many of them! I like it more than any other versions, either the DKC2 original or the already excellent cover that ChiptunedRaijin did. It's atmospheric and raw at the same time, some parts such as the drums, the acid line, the "monkey chant" (from 0:43) or the second lead (the one that ends here 2:05) are just SO good. Thank you for this, really (I found it via a tweet of yours while searching stuff with "YM2612" there. By the way David Wise didn't answer to you more likely because he was too amazed ;)). Anyway dunno if you did more covers or what, apparently not on this channel, but keep it up.
Hey, I'm working on a little fangame made with Genesis assets. I'm absolutely in love with this & would love to use it in a level or scene with your permission.
By far and wide the best Genesis rendition.
I've listened to this once over a year...now I come back to it and it's still awesome.
This version is so great, and I love how you added more stuff in the original, especially 1:10!
I prefer this version over the original, like if the song was made specifically for the YM2612 chip

Its pretty weak the Ym2151 has more channels
@@chinossynthesizer705 if you count the psg it's technically got more lol
Wow, this is pretty dang good mate. I think you deserve more attention than this! :O
This is probably the top 1 variation of this theme I have heard, second to this is the NEC pc engine version
This is amazing. I've been listening to it on loop nonstop for the past hour. Keep up the great work!

I quite enjoyed this tune! Loved the videogame feel.
Wow this is stuning to hear :)
Great work :)
Sounds good! Kinda reminds me of the waterworld and gods osts for MD.
que bien se escucha, gracias!
Why does the ym2612 always do a voice sounding instrument
Is it 100% genuine YM2612 (+SN76496)?
psyance Yea, this can be played on actual hardware!
