    I will never forget the horror of following my husband pulling a trailer with our 2 big gypsy cob horses up a steep hill, and seeing it detach and roll back down the hill towards me. Against natural instinct to try drive my car out of the way, I tried to use it to stop the trailer which ended up rolling on its side into a ditch. Opening those doors to see what damage had been done to our precious boys was the most terrifying dread I’ve ever felt. With help from passers by, we managed to keep them calm and untangle legs to lead them out, battered and bruised but by the grace of god, no broken bones.
    All I can say is taking the time and focus to ensure everything is connected properly to a well maintained vehicle is time well spent.

    • @judithgillis267
      @judithgillis267 2 дня назад +4

      Yes that's how my dad taught me when hooking up a trailer. Chains must always be crisscrossed so if something happens the trailer is with you. My dad taught me how to operate dragline, and dozer (HD 16) back in the day. I'm now 67 years old. He also taught me how to drive tractor-trailer.

    • @debbiekirchner2513

    • @debbiekirchner2513
      @debbiekirchner2513 2 дня назад

      It appears that his chain is coming out from under the hitch in the center, not attached on either side. So, crossing them does not work to create an X.

    I had to drive tractor when I was about 7. I had no choice in the matter. I could use the brakes and I could release it and make it go. Simple as it was, the heat of the day took a toll. I had to find a hat to keep the heat of my head. But the hat I used was by someone else and, of course, too big. But I did learn how to drive the tractor. And when It comes to driving a truck, it started when i was 8. It was necessary to get the work on the farm done. Hauling hay and hauling silage are important to keep those animals fed.

    Show LE about the arrow by the fuel icon showing full to empty, with the arrow pointing to the side where you put the gas in. It’s good to know like when you are renting cars and getting a new vehicle.

    Loved this video. I didn’t learn to drive until I was 21. Just anxiety. I still only drive when I absolutely have to, I am still scared to death. Not sure why. You are a great teacher and dad, I’m glad you were able to share that moment.

    My granddad who I also called “PaPa” taught me how to drive. We were best friends. He and my grandma Jane raised me!! He taught me on an old Ford Bronco, 3-on-the-tree (manual). He told me if I learned to drive it that I would be able to drive anything. I surprisingly got it pretty quickly. It was one of those (around) 1968-69 models the one everybody fixes up now, but his was a half cab, with a very short truck bed. I loved driving that thing. Even after my mom bought me my first car at 16, I still left my car set and drove his Bronco!! Some of the best memories of my life. My granddad was right there is nothing so far at 53 that I haven’t been able to drive.
