My ex husband (one of the reasons he is an ex!) thought he was the only person who needed a hammer or screwdriver in our house! Even when I would buy my own and hide them…he found them and they became his by manhood. For several years I asked him to build a utility room for me, so I didn’t have to go into the hot or cold garage to do laundry and all he ever said was “I’ll get to it.” He never did. After 8 years I decided to do it myself. When he went off for his 2 week national guard summer camp I built it myself using a butter knife and the heel of my shoe for a hammer! It was beautiful, well built and to this day, is still working and beautiful. I even installed a ceiling light and wallpapered it! All he said was “it’s nice. How’d ya do it?” I Mac Gyvered it! 😂😂😂😂
I was just out of the USAF with limited money in Colorado. I bought a 1951 Chevy pickup for $700. The wiring to the tail lights was fried. I got pulled over my state police for no tail lights. I told him my situation. Just out of USAF. Just got an an Apt. And this old truck. He gave me a warning. I was broke after the deposits, insurance, and truck purchase as I JUST started a job in electronics in Englewood. A week later, same cop pulled me over. I duct tapped flash lights on my bumper with red clear plastic cups. We met and he laughed out loud and stated I was 100% legal by code. We shook hands and went our separate ways.
Hi Lester, let LE bury that air hose for you. Seems to me he needs the experience and is the care taker of the property. It would be great if he could learn what to do when things wrap around mower blades and many jobs I’ve seen you do at ISS. Not meant in a rude way. I love LE and enjoy his content. God bless and love from Canadice NY ❤
We were set to have a hard freeze and my pipes needed to be covered. I had no money so i cut a swim noodle and wrapped it with duct tape around my pipes. Worked great.
What do you mean by hard freeze? I hear Lester and Jami say it and I’m thinking it’s like a frost? I’m from Australia and we get frost like ice on the windows. It’s an everyday thing in winter even nearly 2 months into spring we are still getting them.
@@Abbey-pb6fd the climate in Australia is not the same as the United states except for places like Florida or California. Most states in America have hard freezes due to the amount of moister in the air. I live in the mountains of Pennsylvania where it drops below 0 alot of the time during winter. We sometimes get a foot of snow in one day. A lot of times the pipes freezes and make it to where we have no running water. And sometimes if it gets cold enough we lose power. And a hard freeze isn't the same as frost , a hard freeze is when it is so cold the the water in the pipes turn to ice!
Duct tape was my dad’s favorite thing. I got him a t shirt that said “Duct tape is like the force. It has a light side and a dark side and it holds the universe together”. 😂😂
My daughter Jess would use a Green Bean can on her muffler to keep from getting noise tickets. We called her car the Green Bean Machine. Hahahahaha thanks for the memories.
Most recent MacGiver for me… zip tying two large dog crates to a medium size dog crate to create a kitten condo to ensure night time safety and the dogs stay out of litter box and her food. She loves it…
I was a middle school and high school teacher. I McGivered several times a day my whole life. Sometimes I asked the students for help. At first, the students weren't sure I was serious. But eventually they loved helping me. Naturally , I bragged on them. They loved to be the helper especially for a teacher.
My BIL had a sugar low while driving and plowed over several mailboxes and hit a couple parked cars. My son and I went to help him, we had tan duck tape, taped the mirror on, used it to hold his bumper on and tape the headlight in place. Down the side of the van looked like a can opener took an inch wide slice down the length of the two doors, we used the tape to cover up the gap ripped out. He drove the van that way for over a year..our ingenuity held up…was still hanging on when he got rid of the vehicle…
Lester, I really respect how you explain everything in detail to the youngsters around the farm! It seems people learn differently these days and need an explanation about everything!
One of my many McGyver repairs has to be using duct tape. I was traveling and I blew a hole in my radiator hose. I wrapped it and continued to the next auto shop. Evening Lester. Sweet Veronica helping with the carpet for prom night. Shame there isn’t more Veronica’s around. Hope the fix for the windmill did work and Le was able to send you a video of it working. Have a fab day lots of love take care God bless. 💕🙏🤠
Thank you, Ms. Veronica for lending a hand with those carpets! Over here we have to load everything by ourselfs. An idea for the hoses and lines that can't be buried - could they be spray painted in a bright color like yellow or orange? So they would be more visible? As for the MacGyvering: My balkony door is made out of wood and one winter all the moisture had let the wood extent to a level where I could barely open or close it. It reached a point where something moved slightly, after I had opened the door one morning, and I could not close it anymore at all. There was a maybe 3 inch gap. I live in a rental apartment, so I called the landlord and he told me that it wouldn't be before early January (this was late November!), before someone could come and repair whatever was wrong! So I used 2 inches thick foam, that I had kept from an old matress that I had taken apart months ago, and tried to stuff it into the gap all around the door, as best as I could, to keep the cold air where it belonged - outside. Looked weird but did it's job. I love MacGyvering things, and it has saved my behind plenty of times. My mom used to make fun of me for always holding on to all sorts of things "just in case"... until that very day, when this happened. When the carpenter finally came, to fix my door, he had to plane down more than 1 inch from the bottom, to be able to close it again.
As a nurse I had to make things fit together with what I could find. But later in my career people came up with expensive adapters which really helped.
Every single day! My husband was given the nickname ACEGYVER (last name Acevedo) from one of his best buddies just because of the way he can fix anything, and I mean anything, and always has the tools needed to do it. If he doesn’t, he’ll bubble gum, duck tape and paper clip it out!!😂❤
One of my many MacGyver stories. My husband and I would buy old cars rebuild and clean them to sale at a profit. I did use a baby diaper pin to put the couch plate in a 51 Crosly station wagon. It was still holding when we sold it. True story.
Years ago my puppy chewed the cord on my kids TV...my hubby wanted to throw it out ...I told him I could put a new plug on it which I did it....and it worked for a long time after that.. I had watched my parents do it.
I have an old rocker recliner that was still in good shape but the foot rest broke and would not stay down. I flipped the chair over and zip tied the mechanism in the foot rest position closed. Makes a really nice rocking chair. I still use it. 😂
I have to MacGyver a lot! I live by myself in an old,old double wide mobilehome in SR park. As such, getting my landlords to do fix & repair things is like getting an act of Congress! The door of the bathroom literally came off the hinges (wood split & dry) & hit me in the head as I was closing to clean the room. I called for maintenance help 2 months ago. I propped the door so it would not injure my cats & waited! And waited! And reminded. Finally, a week ago, I tried to replace screws, but hard to hold the door, screw the long screw backcin the top hinge. My grip strength is not the best due to carpal, so I got in as far as I could on both hinges ,then went for good old Girilla glue to seal the door frame split!!😂😂😂😂 So far so good!!!
I helped my dad to 'Macgyver' my electric lawnmower atfer the starter handle on it snapped off. He pressed in the starter button and whilst I held the remaining very small still attached part of starter handle in place, he used the same clip you used Lester to securely fasten it in an on position to the lawnmower handle itself, so from henceforth all I had to do was plug in my mower and mow. It worked an absolute dream for at least a couple more years, 'til my mowers motor itself gave up the ghost. 💖
My husband MacGivered our lanai screen. After the squirrels chewed through it to get to the bird seed, he took our sliding door screen and wedged it up to block the hole. Of course hurricane Milton blew out several, but not that one.
You fix things the way I do. Find something around the house/yard that works! I learnt from my mum 🥰 I built a fence and gate out of stuff around the yard and its held up for 5 years so far against my chunky Staffy.
My car broke down on the side of the highway once. I was about 20 maybe. It was a belt so I took off my stockings and made a belt! Hey it got me to a gas station to get it fixed!👍
I MacGyvered installing my air conditioners with duct tape, instead of caulking this summer! I love duct tape! My late grandfather would be proud of me!
Actually one thing that comes to mind happened today. I was helping my daughter (who is the high school x-country coach) spray paint the x-country course for tomorrow’s meet. There’s a special nozzle used on these paint cans and they would clog up. I took a placker dental flosser with a flip pick to clean out the tiny hole.
Great Job Lester! That was a great MacGyver job well done. Oh the other hand, Lester, What might have been another way for the job to be well done would have asked LE to think how He would have fixed it? You Both would have had fun together. But I/We enjoyed doing the job with You and You Being the wonderful Teacher You Are, We had fun with You❗️ Love You'll, Nancy
My husband and I,drove to Fort Knox. About a hour away from home. It was cold, and raining. The gassed cable broke, and we were stranded at Fort Knox. Steve, my husband was trying to figure out who he could get to pick us up and be able to get on the base. I told him, if it was me. I would take my shoe laces tie it to the carburetor run the lace under the hood toward the windshield, roll down my window. Pull on the string that would give the car gas. And I would drive my care home. Steve said ok MacGyver. And that’s how we got our car home.
8 of us went camping. Not 1 lighter between us. Nothing to start a fire. We ended up having to use a tissue and the car lighter. It took nearly 20 minutes but we got there 😂😂
My husband is the king of MacGyvering. He does everything half-assed to get things done as fast as possible. I wouldn’t care if it worked!! Wish I could think of an example but it’s almost midnight and the brain is shutting down. Thank goodness for the Veronica’s in the world. It always drives me crazy when I’m in a store and an employee can’t help with something because “it’s not their department“! Especially when they’re not doing anything! Just wondering if you got your water line fixed at LHL. That’s what I thought you were going to fix. Make sure to get your oil changed!! ♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️
She was very nice to help you. I’ve run across the same issue in Home Depot. Usually stores have an employee recognition board where customers can recognize them for going above and beyond to help customers. I think you may be able to do so online as well. What a great lady! God bless
Our side by side trailer decided to break in the woods, no phone signal, nothing. The leaf bracket that holds the axel thingy broke and the tire/axel fell back and was rubbing on the wheel well! Almost catching fire from the friction! 🔥 So we used our straps that we tie the side by side down with, and pulled the axel forward with them. Managed to get it home and eventually get ahold of someone to come get the side by side on a different trailer! Somehow it held up and we got home and then to a welder safe and sound! Husband did a great MacGyver that day!
Hi Lester! Years ago driving from PHX to Texas we lost a belt just at the exit for a rest stop. My husband said he heard about using ladies nylons as a belt so yep I went around asking people for nylons and trying to explain why 😮😂 I finally found a pair and he wrapped it around and we made it to the next town 😂
On time, we were moving from San Francisco to Illinois. Two u hauls full pulling both vehicles and house broke they told us I would take two days to get us help my hubby broke a pen put it in both ends and we were on our way.
Throttle cable broke on one of my old trans-ams. I tied a piece of wire to the throttle linkage plate and ran the wire under my hood and through my window. I drove the car home by pulling on the wire to accelerate. I drove about 40miles like that to home.🔧😁
I used 2 tent stakes, guy line and a taut line hitch to make an adjustable garden row marker for planting seeds. It works on 3 foot - 10 foot oval raised beds and can fit each one perfectly.
I did a lot of jerry riggin' way before MacGuyver was a thing. I was driving by myself (woman here) to another state when my car's tail pipe broke and flipped over under the car. I took my boot strap (string) and tied my tail pipe to my bumper hitch until I could get it fixed. Lester as soon as I saw the hard plastic syringe I knew that wouldn't work-no give. I would have used duct tape. It got me out of lot of jams. Extra hose works too if you have one. 😊
I've always found a way to either make or fix things since I was a kid, my ex-husband was useless so I had to sort stuff, I recently got new parts for my 20+yrs old dryer and i accidentally ordered wrong connector for the new hose so I just put silicone caulk around it 😊👍 problem solved and in working order lol,👋♥️🇬🇧
Had to use jute string tied on one car wiper, thru the two no drafts and out the front wiper. Passenger ran string back and forth to mover wipers in all the rain so i could see. Thanks Magiver
Me too. I could call him for anything. I miss that so much.

The little doohickey that opens and closes the bathroom sink broke. I took it out and ended up with a hole going down the drain pipe. I plugged it up with a wine cork. Worked for years til I replaced the faucet and drain hardware. 😊
Sophomore yr of high school. Arbor day, they handed out tulip popular trees. It was in a bag wrapped in a rubber band. My brother's car broke down. I said here I don't have a belt but I have a rubber band .. it got us home. I planted that tree in front of the home I grew up in.

Great use of an old hose.
I would have wrapped that with duck tape. You know it fixes everything Lester, lol😂😂😂❤
Atleast you got it Lester. My husband doesn't even attempt to fix anything. Ugh...he is useless . Lol.
Fingers crossed it works Lester xxxx
Remember it? I loved the reboot series. 😊
Nice tutorial , if you can do it yourself, do it and save money!! Sure hope it works!! Victoria is the way!! Going above and beyond!!
Thank u Veronica.
Loved the video
Had to use jute string tied on one car wiper, thru the two no drafts and out the front wiper. Passenger ran string back and forth to mover wipers in all the rain so i could see. Thanks Magiver
My Dad was so good with fixing stuff for me I no longer have my Dad's help he passed away over 2 years 😭
Me too. I could call him for anything. I miss that so much.
The little doohickey that opens and closes the bathroom sink broke. I took it out and ended up with a hole going down the drain pipe. I plugged it up with a wine cork. Worked for years til I replaced the faucet and drain hardware. 😊
Good job 😊
We had a hole in the exhaust pipe of our 1967 barracuda back in the early 70s. Hubby used a beer can to fix it.
Oct, 16, 2024. I hope that the airline air hose is going to work. Thanks for another great video.
Sophomore yr of high school. Arbor day, they handed out tulip popular trees. It was in a bag wrapped in a rubber band. My brother's car broke down. I said here I don't have a belt but I have a rubber band .. it got us home. I planted that tree in front of the home I grew up in.
❤Good video!! Hope it works!!! LET US KNOW!!!
