Any time people say they feel guilty for not paying, just say “it’s because of people like you allowing me to do this work, that I have this opportunity to do this kind of stuff for free for people and keep my dream job!”

I think only constructing the pool with bit of an outward slope in the first place would work. Also as non-slip as possible, now that pressure washers exist the rough surface can be kept clean.
Any dirt that made it into the pool will either float (can be scooped out with a net), or will sink to the bottom where it can be vacuumed out. Small price to pay for a great looking deck. 🎉
