Hey Alex, I really think you're falling into the same trap as you made last time. It really feels like you are spreading yourself too thin. I highly recommend reading a book called Four Thousand Weeks by Oliver Burkeman. It really helps one come to terms with the fact that we MUST prioritize in our lives. There's always more that we want to do than we can feasibly do.

My fail was too much at a time. My biggest success was my method fir Spanish. A goal for me is to learn some portuguese and ASL. I also have similar goals to your Bulgarian goals for Spanish/French/German. Happy New Year!!

I totally get that - too much at a time. When you spread yourself so thin, you can't push hard in one language. That could be your goal to maintain a lot of languages, but if you have aspirations for just a few, others need to be put on hold.
      Wishing you good luck!

@@studywithalex I challenge you to take the Clozemaster 10 languages 10 questions each challenge. Pick any 10 languages video yourself taking the challenge and inspire us. (whether you have studied are familiar with or not). This is a fun opportunity to showcase your talent with a little bit of humility proving you too are human and still a language learner. You can put the flags of the 10 languages you choose for the challenge in both the thumbnail and the title and tag the video as #takingtheclozemaster 10 languages challenge. While also tagging the languages of the challenge. When choosing from a diverse variety of languages consider this, to include some of those you're familiar with, those that you are not, and those that you will later learn. Choosing to include a conlang like Interlingua and an ancient language like Latin will keep the challenge diverse while bringing recognition to these languages (you may surprise yourself). Consider getting a hold of Clozemaster they may be interested in sponsoring the video. We as a community of language Learners need a challenge that we can all appreciate and try together. To get the most out of the video challenge adjust the settings as follows: put the skills to listening, the question count to 10, and the mode to multiple choice. Then you can adjust the account to dark mode (as it's more attractive) and the default speed to 75% for better hearing the questions. Doing a dry run will ensure all the settings are correct. Keep a notepad by your side to keep track of the language scores. Before you end the video it would be nice if you encouraged other polyglots and language Learners to take up the challenge.
      Buenas suerte
      Carpe Diem
      السلام عليكم

Are you interesting in learning Belarusian or Southern Russian dialect/accent and/or Common Slavic vocabulary? I want to reach C1+ in ~Russian/East Slavic but I don't want to learn all the Russian slang words and endless synonyms so my plan is to use the common Slavic vocabulary, especially the verbs. Are you interested in seeing my research or assisting? Specifically I need help double checking my verb translations e.g. (говори́ть/го́вор vs. река́ть/речь vs. мо́(л)вить/мо́(л)ва.) Your knowledge in Bulgarian would be useful.
1 more thing, while learning German or French or Turkish or Japanese is interesting, and I want to learn Japanese too, your base in Bulgarian means that you could achieve very high fluency in Russian, more so than other language so it's the best for your buck. Also, I'm pretty sure all the high level technical stuff is the same or similar between Bulgarian and Russian.

I've found that setting SMART goals (specific, measurable, etc) for long term goals doesn't work very well for me personally. So most of my goals are more of "dreams"/visions of improving in certain areas, even if they're vague, and then I work on short-term projects or challenges throughout the year that are SMART goals and that work towards 1 or more of those visions/dreams. For me, time goals especially are difficult to set and then follow-through, because it's so easy to over- or underestimate how busy I'll be and how much motivation I'll have throughout the year for certain languages, and if I get behind I find it really demotivating. I do set a few measurable goals, though, like trying to read a novel per month in Korean. All this to say -- I think different goal-setting styles work better for different people. I think knowing about SMART goals is important, and knowing what motivates or demotivates you personally is also important, and people should set their goals accordingly. I do agree that sometimes people set vague or just unrealistic "goals"(dreams) for the year and don't seem to have any idea of how they're going to get there.
What kind of stuff do you usually do/watch for Korean? Just wondering because the amount you set (3 hours) makes me think it's not dramas, unless you just really space the eps out haha.
I'm currently working on improving basically all aspects of my advanced Korean and reading/watching stuff in low-intermediate-ish Mandarin and Japanese on the side.

I totally understand how SMART goals would not work for someone. It could make pressure and not allow flexibility. Your dreams and my time-bound goals aren't that far off. At the end of the day, it's just a statement of dedication that you'll push yourself further in whatever realm you want.
TBH, a lot of my Korean listening last year was like random RUclips videos of like a Korean person vlogging or like a non-episodic cartoon in Korean. In general, in any language, I'm not into series with a throughline. That works for me, and it accumulates to quite a lot of listening.
Good luck on Korean, Japanese, and Mandarin! ❤

I met all my language goals in speaking and understanding Welsh and Irish, but my (much more modest) writing goals in both languages fell by the wayside. I still count it as a win though, as I had a much more unsettled year than I expected and you can't help it if real life intrudes in ways you couldn't have anticipated.

Absolutely. The biggest issue to the language learner is life. 😆 If I could pause time, bills, health, responsibilities, I would be FLUENT.
