More about Gianmarco:
Gianmarco Soresi is a stand-up comedian, actor, and a little too much for some people. He’s told jokes on The Late Late Show with James Corden, Comedy Central, Netflix’s Bonding, Don’t Tell, The Real Housewives of New York for some reason, and he was a JFL New Face in 2022. He’s acted in Billy Crystal’s Here Today, Hustlers, The Last OG, and in his theater days shared the stage with some people who’ve gone on to become huge real estate agents. You can see him post the kind of crowdwork clips that are arguably destroying the artform of stand-up comedy everywhere @gianmarcosoresi and he obviously has a podcast called The Downside with Gianmarco Soresi.🎤

Oooh... That 'no' came way too fast :D
come to orlando
is 5/3 standup?
No London again. We are not friends anymore
Ooh man, that first guy from the blended family was absolutely the golden child in that family dynamic 😭 his poor siblings lol
right lmao he doesnt see the problem in his family because he is the problem
Please not with the armchair psychology, there’s so much nuance to these dynamics. It makes no sense to assume, for all you know they may be assholes or have “narcisstic” traits and he’s just equally and asshole or maybe isn’t and just was taught that tough love will help people. There’s various ways that who social setting can play out,l Yankees always want the most simplistic understand of human interaction smh
You guys are dumb as fuck. You don't anything about that family.
@@jamesongogoleczko5932 Still execution is garbage. Imagine you have disabled siblings and you say such things?? I don't see an excuse of insulting someone if that someone has shutdown after health problems. It doesn't matter how you've been tought, I had narcisist family with "tough" love and I looked at them, figured I shouldn't do it. Especcially to disabled or mentally difficult people no no, if you wanna be there for them be there for them if you don't want to cut them out. If you can't, be minimal with comminication and look forward. Not being direct or insulting people no matter what is a red flag for me
@@jamesongogoleczko5932 As someone who is a shut in due to health problems, I already tell myself I'm a loser everyday and feel terrible about myself cause I'm not physically capable of doing anything as much anymore. To be told that by someone who's supposed to care about me would break me. It's not tough love. It's bullying. He said it was because they had health issues and yet still calls them losers.
"My family's great" yah cuz YOU'RE the bully! Ofc everything is great FOR YOU! 😂
They could be bully’s.. you’re making assumptions
lmao right
@@jamesongogoleczko5932 ok
@@jamesongogoleczko5932 He said his siblings don't go out much because of health issues then said he calls them losers. As someone who doesn't go out much due to health issues, he's a bully.
Him saying they had some health issues and that made them shut ins does give me the legitimately disturbed feeling that he’s bullying his disabled siblings but hopefully that’s just me thinking the worst anywhoozle great set 👍🏾
I love when I assume the horror exists in my own head because I'd rather be fucked up than the world being fucked up
see i was thinking that too because that whole "it feels like an infirmary in here" comment was sketchy. but i think we're probably just reading too much into it, right?
ngl I think he’s oversimplifying for the comedy show. esp as he led with “they’re pretty great”
@@koschei4716 tbh for my own peace of mind when I truly have no way of confirming a situations facts I try and assume it’s me just thinking the worst until proven otherwise but I’d be lying if I said the infirmary comment didn’t come off super sketchy.
@@caitie226 That’s honestly a reasonable conclusion too, it’s a show, it’s edited down and some people do just phrase things very poorly
Ohhhh I did an immediate 180 at the "tough love" guy. My god, he felt so comfortable with his actions he openly talked about it to an audience.
That’s typical family behaviour around the world
@@jamesongogoleczko5932 No it's not, actual tough love is common behavior around the world, but this man's wording is just straight up hurtful and shitty.
@@jamesongogoleczko5932 no, that's abuse.
Neither I nor any of my siblings has a relationship with our mother. The audience was dead on, it's not sad. If your life suffers for having someone in it, it doesn't matter what the nature of the relationship is, the healthy thing is to end it.
Yeah they're not cutting contact because of them, it's cause of the mom. It's a happy thing that they're free.
Same!! @@nj.7325
People have such a warped idea of what "tough love" means, that guy was literally just making it worse.
Shut-ins have heavy mental health issues and just being a jerk and mocking them won't help. I'm depressed but not a shut-in, I can't imagine how bad I would be if my parents were "get a life" "won't get out, loser?" instead of "are you going to get out with your friends this weekend? Please go ask them to make them want to do something too" "oh you started playing rpg again? I'm so glad, you weren't enjoying any hobby for a time" "you haven't talked about writing for a time now, try getting back even if you think the ideas are bad"
Like, they really care for me and they SHOW IT instead of only telling me, it's pretty hard to believe someone loves you when they are attacking you at your lowest.
Felt that as well
I'm currently dealing with a low point in my social anxiety and depression, luckily my parents and siblings never kick down, they actually make me feel like I have a lifeline, I'm lucky for that though.
Exactly. Tough love means not enabling the harmful behaviour out of niceness. Like, when someone is trying to quit drinking, not giving them a drink is tough love. Tough love is not an excuse to abuse a person "for their own good".
In fact, there were a series of studies in the 1980s and 1990s that thoroughly debunked this idea of berating people under the pretence of tough love, and showed that it was utterly ineffective, if not actively harmful. So, whenever you see people saying things like "we have to shame obese people so that they get off their asses and lose weight", know that their opinions are scientifically incorrect. People need support to help themselves. You can't berate someone into bettering themselves.
And here's the most important part: Even if you somehow succeed, and the person does introduce positive changes in their life because you yelled at them, in doing so you have created a new problem. A person must change from within, not out of shame. If a person changes because of your yelling, then that yelling became their motivator, and so they will continue to need a drill-instructor hovering above their head to do anything else in the future. (They could also develop resentment for their past self, which could contribute to lowered self-worth. You can't call someone a loser for years without it affecting them in some way.)
This is precisely why therapists refuse to outright tell you what to do, because if they do, then you will become dependent on them to do anything.
It definitely reminds me of how I was a very shy, introverted child (still those things now lol), and seeing extended family was a major source of anxiety for me. So them teasing me for it when I did see them did NOT help. In fact, it made me want to see them *less* to avoid the possibility of them doing that to me.
"It's pretty hard to believe someone loves you when they are attacking you at your lowest." OOF, well said!!!
Gianmarco doesn't realize how many Amber Alerts exist because a parent kidnaps their child. Most of the time it's when a parent has lost their custody rights or has very strict custody limits, so them having the child in their care is legally considered kidnapping if they take them outside of legal parameters.
Yeah most kidnappings are actually family members. It's kidnapping because we can't just let kids be with unsafe adults, parents or not.
Even if the parents share custody, one can still kidnap the kid if they take them away somewhere without the other parents' knowledge and refuse to let them meet or goes no contact.
Yep there was one in my area several years ago where the kids were kidnapped by their father during a custody battle, and he killed them to "punish" the mother. It's truly scary.
@@rossherndon4548 omgsh that is terrifying
6:34 as a therapist, these two jokes made me laugh hysterically. Also, couldn’t be more true - those who get real vulnerable get more out of therapy
“The tough love dynamic” - also known as bullying!
As a lifelong shut-in who, thankfully, survived long enough to finally feel like I'm making progress with a new medication and support system; I appreciate both gianmarco and the audience calling bs on that "tough love" defense. I know it was just a comedic gesture, but it really does mean a lot to me. Thank you for the good laughs Gian.
This is why I love Gianmarco. Most "dark humour" comedians just use their jokes as a front to spew bigoted rhetoric. Gianmarco makes dark jokes _to_ make fun of bigots and bad people and he's more than happy to hold his own audience accountable.
Right, he was more respectful of these two guys than their own brother. Happens a lot sadly, that family members misunderstand and judge mental health issues in the family, and it can make things way worse.
@@virtheoni agree. And he shows them how it’s done. I’m tired of misogynistic, racist, etc comedians complaining that there cannot be comedy if they can’t touch all subjects. They wished they could still say “women be shopping” and everyone agreed with them, for example.
Agorophobe/fucking loser here, that dude would be the main reason I point to as to WHY I don't leave the house lmao
Also anyone catch he said it seemed like an infirmary in their house... Maybe its because they have OCD, or maybe an ACTUAL high risk illness and rational fear of the horrific viruses that are floating around right now that people don't seem to realize those of us with health issues can't risk contracting such diseases, but whatever...
At least I am a justified shut-in cuz if I was given Gianmarco tickets I would find the nearest plastic bubble and be in attendance
Sincerely hope you keep making good progress.
I have been in a place when I've had to force myself to be able to get out of the house. It felt harder each passing day, and thankfully I realised that it would get worse if I didn't do something about it.
My sister is currently in a very dark place and can't even get outside the door.
I have a neighbour who is agoraphobic, and needs a helper to take her out.
A friend's son is house bound due to a long term illness involuntarily desocializing him.
Good luck and all the best to you!
Fascinating how there always seem to be someone with a crazy family or relationship story in your crowd, you attract crazy people (including me lol) like a magnet hahaha
I think you'd be surprised by how common crazy people/situations are, just in the fkin wild 😅
At this point people probably go to his shows specifically to get an opportunity to tell their story.
There are a lot of crazy families. Just think, every Republican has a family.
Dude, almost every family has something fucked up. I have a fairly stable family, but I collect friends with sever family trauma like Pokémon cards
"So one total" didn't get the reaction it deserves.
That moment when you see Gianmarco thinking "I have no material about this, only about blended/messed up family".
He's a therapist on stage.
I can't remember when was the last time I found a comedian who's every single joke makes me laugh.. .. you sir, are an absolute legend, come to Ireland please!!
even I thought of mixed race when he said blended
Me too 😂
the comeback of the women be shopping joke! lol, great material Gianmarco!
I feel so special when I watch new videos and I recognise jokes from previous shows, really fuels the feeling of being a part of this parasocial dysfunctional family :)
Fucking KING of crowd work!
"Women be shopping" is baack!!!
I told a friend about Gianmarco and they asked me if I remembered any jokes. The only one I could think of was a hilarious running joke he has that goes...."women be shoppin'" 😂😂😂.
She didn't really get it I don't think.
Yeah that's hard because most of his best stuff isn't his routines, it's his responses to the crowd.
I gotta tell you, the guy that invited me to see Twilight on our first date understood quickly the level of mistake: I burst laughing all the movie. It was lovely 😂
Aren’t Twilight movies like 2-3 hours each? What a first date, not talking!
@@martafiord You are right, we barely talked
His “no families are great” thesis reminds me of Tolstoy’s “All happy families are alike; each unhappy family is unhappy in its own way.”
I was recently hospitalized, and I had my therapist call me for our scheduled telehealth session, and not even half way through my bitchy doctor interrupted, and it was very strange having to tell my mental health professional I had to hang up on him to talk to her. I had to choose my physical health over my mental health, and I'm honestly very salty, because my sessions are only twice a month... They're precious. Only to have my doctor tell me I can't have orange juice anymore... even though I'm not even a diabetic. At that point I was ready to strangle myself with my call light cord.
I'm so sorry you have to deal with this. I hope your situation gets better and your sessions get more consistent 🙏💕
@@Fluff_Noodlesplease stop enabling this kind of Yankee entitlement, this is exactly why people in you nation are self obsessed with themselves while your government is helping fund wars and genocides around the world.
Really hoping that dude sees these comments and realizes he's absolutely a problem. How do people say these things in front of other people and not realize how bad it sounds?
You don’t know what his siblings are like, they may equally be the problem or even bigger assholes than him and he just gives what he receives or cares for them and thinks that’s how you motivate them
@@jamesongogoleczko5932 But that's clearly not how you motivate someone. There's been studies amongst depression/addiction/eating disorders/other mental health struggles showing that shame simply does the opposite. It sounds bad because it is bad, no matter how those people act. It's their ultimate responsibility to work on themselves, yes, but when it comes to mental health struggles it's just too complex to simplify to that. The effort your loved ones make can make a huge difference. These types of people are the ones who stop talking to their family for their own peace of mind (avoiding the ridicule and shame) and then the rest of the family acts surprised.
I love this whole audience. They were as fantastic as the show itself.
8:45 I once said to my dad that I didn't know anything about him, he asked what I'd like to know, I asked him what his favorite color is....he still didn't answer he changed the subject. So...sometimes when you ask them a specific question, you still don't get an answer.
That last joke was a great finisher
This is the earliest I’ve been on a video and IM GLAD 😂😂😂
That one guy reminds me of the whole thing about how everyone was bullied once, and if you weren't, it's because YOU were the bully... seems the same thing is true for families 😅 If you think everyone in your family is perfect, then you are the fucked up one...
For those who like the sound of making fun of terrible movies, I *highly* recommend "Mom Can't Cook: A DCOM Podcast", where the hosts review Disney Channel Original Movies from the late 90s & early 00s, which are hilariously bad, full of holes, and the podcast is just a great time
Or, if you're visual, you can look at bad movie content from Danny Gonzalez, Drew Gooden, and Kurtis Conner too! They have DCOMs and more!
@@Kasia3127lemme add ‘pretty much it’ as well. they make commentary tracks about mostly bad movies and tv and post highlights on their youtube
@@Kasia3127 oh, can definitely recommend watching the DCOMs before each podcast, double the fun
I wish I could sit in the crowd but here in Russia I can only watch these shorts on youtube
funny thing is in the original ATLA, Sokka is the gaang member who indulges the most shopping & materialism 💀💀
love ur comedy, but jean jacket with sweat pants is craaazy
Saddest part is Sokka canonically loves shopping. 😔
That last joke.. !!! Bravo sir. Love your comedy!
Hey y’all, this is from my new material + crowd work show The Silver Lining that I do in NYC 2-3 times a month. They sell out earlier than most so if you’re visiting get your tickets now! Hoping to do some outside of New York soon, too. Tix: beacons.ai/gianmarcosoresi
I hope the two brothers see this video and its comments
99.9% chance he watches Jacksfilms and I'm HERE for it
his shows must be like morbid therapy.
This channel is crowd sourced 😂
I appreciate the big subtitles! Thank you!
I will def come to one of your shows in the future, do you want a chicken sandwich?
Being a shut in is the safest and most prosperous life path a person can take in 2024
Love your wit, man!
Giancarlo's crowdwork keeps getting better and better. You just made a 10 year therapist laugh at every joke. Come to Brazil 🇧🇷 ❤!
You always make me laugh bro
ive never been this early to a gianmarco video. hello!!
I love watching your videos they make my day is so funny its a self care routine as this point. I work at a crisis intervention and your videos really make me laugh 😂
Most of the time, kidnappings are done by someone who knows the child, often a parent!
That was hillllarious omggg😂😂😂
Is the girl's father Ron Swanson? 😂
3:36 'I come from a blended family' someone really wanted to talk to you Gianmarco
I swear he gets the craziest crowds.
How're you so good at crowd work 😂
most kidnappings are done by family members, especially parents that violate custody agreements! maybe it's just my fucked up environment but I and many others have Stories about different intra-family kidnapping attempts lol
Blended families in the non race way.😂
As for the FedEx joke at the end, strangely sexy😊
Got to love this comedy genius ❤
Found your channel this morning and looks like we just missed you in our city last month. See you in Calgary next time! North of the border in February though, questionable decision!
Indeed but cold weather is actually good for ticket sales!!!
Asking families about their traumas in childhood is a bold approach
I’m sad Gianmarco has no tour dates in Michigan:(
My favorite comedian!
I like how it's a general consensus among the audience that the daughters should stay away from the mom
That's seems like a very unhealthy relationship and thank fuck it's more accepted to cut ties with terrible parents
lmfao that shitty brother gave me such flashbacks, i literally thought it was my abuser but then i remembered that he's in jail😭
8:38 Ron Swanson's daughter spin-off show
yeah, never heard the term blended either. thought he meant mixed.
All families are at least a lil fucked up whether that be from direct or distant relatives, the ones who say their family is all great are just not self aware
0:40 Bro what😭
If you can't take a joke, then DON'T go to Comedy Clubs......Just stay home and watch reruns of Friends!!!
gianmarco will you be my dad
I’m so dark but what happens to shut ins if the house burns down?
where is this show located? it's hard to get the long distance joke not knowing where this is...
Agree!
Tough love does not equal BULLYING 🙄🤧 that dude be crazy
XD
People are so interesting. I have questions.
... is that stanzi??
ok seriously though what the fuck does "blended family" mean if it doesnt mean mixed
Googled it cause that's what I initially thought too. It's more or less a broader term for unique families of step-parents and/or step-kids.
I first heard the term when the media was describing Kamala Harris's family in 2020 so I also assumed it meant mixed race
It means two or more different sets of kids, like if your mom marries my dad and then all of a sudden you and I are siblings.
i first learned about the term from the actual film Blended (2014) with Drew Barrymore and Adam Sandler
divorced
the mileage you're getting out of women be shoppin is insane
I took blended to mean racially too. I'd use 'quirky' as a subtle descriptor that actually means messed up.
the term blended family has nothing to do with race though so no
@@alisonfields4688 Clearly most people aren't aware of the 'correct' meaning, that being a family with children from multiple different partners. You can say whatever you want and claim you mean anything you want, but if people don't understand what you're saying, it doesn't matter what the words actually 'mean'. He's doing the same thing in the clip, taking 'blended' family and equating it to a messed up family. FFS.
@@jbc5099 you’re not understanding his joke and that’s fine but you can chill tf out lmao. you’re just making shit up
@@jbc5099I'm surprised it's not common knowledge to native English speakers what blended family means in terms of two divorced parents (or widow(er)s) with kids from their previous marriages blending into one new family unit to be raised together. Like Brady Bunch Style.
