Why you tried with different props?.... The prop is what dictates the power draw, grip in the air, speed... etc...
(put a 2 blade old gemfan 5030 and they will say OMG there is no power!!!)

Umm this may be a late comment but again great episode!
Honestly there IS a significant difference between 2306 and 2207 at the same KV. 2306 is more linear, has better low-throttle performance, but drain batteries faster. 2207 has higher top end speed, slightly more efficient, but doesn't fly very well at low throttle. (All with the same props)
If you are used to high throttle flying, 2207 is a much better choice than 2306, especially on 6s. But if you just started to learn racing or complex freestyle, 2306 is easier to control.
Results might vary depending on the motor manufacturers. I'v only tried rcinpower motors and iflight XING motors before making the above conclusion.
BTW the new DALPROP t5046c is absolutely amazing so go check it out lol..

Please please please do more of these. Blind comparisons are so much more meaningful than numbers on a data sheet.

Many thanks folks, this was again a real good RR episode:
Very entertaining and we all, who do not own 2207 and 2306 motors with the exact kv values, learned a lot, imho.
It was really surprising to me that both motors, with the same kv, actally seemed to feel pretty much the same.
I thought, that you would feel the faster accellerating 2207 for sure.
    But I only own 2207 2700kv and 2306 2450kv of BH.
And these are not comparable. - Everybody feels and hears! the difference immediately.
I chose those motors for a reason:
The 2007 2700kv spin up extremely fast and therefor have extreme response. Which is great if I like to fly in "wider" areas. And they so easily throw your quad... sometimes almost too far ;-) - Pushing the throttle up fast does not cost you many amps if you fly for example the skinny T-Motor props, I also love them for that motor.
A lite quad with these is a beast! - And lot of people seem to love to fly them with much throttle-expo (for the gain in low end resolution).
The 2306 2450kv spin up slower, but also with torque, are more forgiving to nervous throttle control and you have to accellerate them a bit slower and more linear to get your punch. Otherwise you'll burn amps - I love these for smooth freestyle and also proximity on a small space because the are not fast enought to react that immediate if you overshoot a little bit in your throttle reaction.
Why do the 2207 spin up faster and why do 2206 have such a nice smooth feel?
    * The 2207 spin up faster because the stator is not that wide, so the swinging mass (the bell) to be accellerated is less.
(probably not the perfect description but I hope you get what I mean)
    * The 2306 spin up slower because the stator is wider, so the swinging mass (the bell) to be accellerated is more, but when it once is accelerated, it keeps it's accelleration pretty stable, which makes it more forgiving to nervous throttle thumbs.
The flighttime when I fly the quads with the described motors is pretty the same. - But I also fly those different motors very different. - The 2207 more agressive and the 2306 possibly as smooth as I can ;-)
And this episode made me interested in some 2306 2700kv, perhaps the golden middle for me?
    Or maybe 2207 2500kv? - Maybe those?
(Damn, then I have to buy spare motors for three types... that's not good:-)
Again, well done, I loved this episode: All tumbs up!

Great conversation to hear. Go enought test for me i think. Maybe same test (motors and quad) but with the Jamie's Props. I was just upgrading my motors and at least this gets me a bit closure to seeing that from what you all were saying and Vanover's racing info, it's still more of a preference thing. I really wanted to just choose a motor, buy a few and be done with it. But I guess I'll just have to 'try' a few different ones to find out.

I notice a difference in motors and profiles in 4S, once you go with 6S, it really levels the playing field, you just pick based on quality, price and the styling you like.
All that said, I like 2306 the best, 2207 and 2307 suck more amps for almost no extra performance- they also hold on to heat longer.

  • @tehllama42
    @tehllama42 5 лет назад +15

Well, at lest they scienced their way to the actual answer - prop pairings dictate most of the feel, and that variations in battery performance are going to be more substantial than minor differences in stator size when you're not flying all out.
Lighter props that can spin up faster are going to be generally better on tall stators, and can linearize thrust delivery on some setups. For most beefier props that tend to have that 'creamy' feel, the wider stator is going to feel much better, with a lot of the torque delivery happening at low to mid throttle. On those props, I'd probably choose 2306, but for what I run the answer is 2208 motors all day every day.

    • @archer4922
      @archer4922 5 лет назад +3

tehllama42 agreed. When you get to the 2207 and 2306 size I feel it’s all preference. But props have a lot to do with it. Now for freestyle I’m with you on the 2208’s. I love my Xing 2208 1700’s on a wild Willy dolphin frame.

There's a pretty easy way to choose between them if you're on the fence. If you have a lighter quad, 2207 will give you great performance without killing your batteries too much. But if you have a heavier quad, 2306 might be a better match to carry the weight more efficiently and give better performance.

2306 for heavy load and 2207 for lighter quads. EDIT: I like every RR pilots because they are so different and that makes it interesting (Alex is very funny when he's cheeky with Drew and Drew just let him get away with it by just take a harsh look at him)

No one can tell me that ANYONE can consistently tell the difference between a top spec 2207 and top spec 2306. The power in flight is nearly identical and (on static thrust tests there may be a 50 to 60 gram thirst difference between the two in a perfect world but in flight it's nearly identical so long as the KV is the same and the build is the same other then one is 2207 and one is 2306) response is nearly identical, torque is nearly the same, top end is nearly the same you just can't tell a difference... On two identically built race quads with one being same brand and build quality 2207 and one being 2306 with same KV then a world class race pilot may see a slight difference between the two if they ran 20 packs with each motor around the same track and avg the lap times... It's it's a tighter track they likely would see slightly quicker lap times with the 2306 as there is slightly more low and mid throttle torque/response and if it's a bigger track with a longer straight they may see a slightly quicker avg lap time with the 2207s due to the slightly more top end power. In the end it would be so close it wouldn't matter.

First off. You can always tell the difference in the sound. 2306 are much higher pitch screamers. 2207 is more of a lower scream. I have only ever ran Dribv2…..still wondering if I should try different ones.

The problem is that whilst there will be a small difference there will be a larger difference caused by battery placement and power output even on identical battery's.

Odd I have Mr copper 2306 and I love them but there 2400 and they feel like they cause battery sag more than my xilo 2207/2550 but 2550 did feel stronger but less linear low throttle control

Useful to know. Nothing really in it, narrower is best for freestyle then! I've dented more 2306's than 2207's (although I am crap).

Tendríais que probarlos sin saber qué motor tiene. Y guiaros por vuestras sensaciones.
