    OMG, I'm almost 74, and I don't sleep at night. I'm afraid of darkness and keep lights on at all times. I believe it's a result of trauma I experienced as a child. Due to having diabetes, I am struggling to keep my eyesight and am undergoing numerous laser surgeries. The worse that could happen is the loss of my vision. I am encouraged by Mother Fletcher's story. That I could not like darkness, not sleep at night, and still live a long life. May God bless our elders. We must keep their story alive and never allow it to be forgotten. 😪

    My great-great-great-grandmother lived to be 103, and I knew her very well. Her mind was still sharp, she didn't wear glasses, she didn't have high blood pressure, diabetes, high cholesterol, absolutely nothing. She told her son she was going to bed, when he woke up the next morning she had transitioned in her sleep. That's the true meaning of natural causes, and I don't care what no one else says. When you are older, have no health problems, and you go in your sleep, that's natural causes.

If everything you try to do/build to progress in life gets destroyed by racists people, how would you not feel defeated? A lot of us still keep going but we’ve never been victims like people think we are. We still fight everyday.

    This interview is hard evidence why Foundational Black Americans need reparations. Hearing their stories about what was taken away from them before they even had a starting chance was sad to hear. Being reminded what they had to live with and had to struggle through represents what Black America has been dealing with since America's inception. That repeated saying through the entire interview "what opportunities I could of had if Black Wall Street was never destroyed". As I learn about my family history, I start ask that same question, I joined the military for the same reasons as those men in the interview did. My life has been tremendously blessed but at the same time I still ask would it had been easier for me, if my ancestors were never oppressed? Just a thought.

    • @casualplaya3848
      @casualplaya3848 Год назад

      Unfortunately we’re not unified like the Asians, Jews, and whites. So only a select amount of us fight for reparations. The majority are adding into the “black crime” statistics. So they won’t take us seriously if we don’t even take ourselves that way (not speaking to you as an individual, but the majority in these Democratic Urban cities). We’re the only community that has a youth glorifying violence, hiding criminals with the no snitching rhetoric, and older generations are too afraid to step in and take the reigns. It’s really every man for himself.

    Brazilian here… don’t intend to make this a white v black thing, but it’s amazing to me that white people can watch this and think systemic racism isn’t a thing… to think that white privilege isnt a thing.. nuts
    Nothing wrong with being white or being part of the majority but here we have to this day a living example of generational trauma, generational disadvantages. It’s not about solely what’s going on today.
    One governmental policy or action today can affect demographics for generations. Wont be fixed in a short period of time but the least we can do is acknowledge and agree on this obvious issue

    “Get busy living or get busy dying”
    I thoroughly enjoyed this episode. I love hearing black stories and needed to hear this conversation and that quote. They travelled all the way to Africa in the pandemic at 107 yrs old. I’m only in my early 30’s and stayed far away from planes until recently. I’m gonna work on getting back to living cuz ik I need to. Preciate y’all man fr 🖤
