Shel inspired me to love reading as a 2nd grader with his poetry. Little did I know I'd rediscover him as a phenomenal country songwriter. Just came across Bobby Bare's album of his tunes -- AMAZING!
my suggestions for a new mt. rushmore: 1) shel silverstein 2) mel blanc 3)george carlin 4) harry nilsson these four men have given us more than enough joy and that justifies this list(and screw y'all who disagree). btw, my new mt. rushmore is not limited to just men, but I would, for no really good reason except there's four on the original mt. rushmore, like any follow-up posts to keep it in groups of four. please no obvious ones like the beatles (who I love)just put some thought into it, and yes, DO try to impress us with your groups of four.(BION, my inspiration for this is neil diamonds song Done Too Soon) you can explain your four choices, or not, as you feel. if no one replies, well then i've wasted 13 minutes of my life.
I would say for me Hendrix, Dylan, Lennon, Cobain in terms of just iconic lyricist/song writers. I think those four are the most important to music history for the most part. But there's others you could make for hip hop, jazz, blues, etc.
