I've been playing the Maxfli Tour/X for years. IMO they have been the best value ball since they came out, but this year's iteration is the best yet. Half the price of a ProV1/X with virtually identical performance. The alignment aid is great too.
Great to see that you did receive them & thanks for doing the review. I would be very interested to see the top 5 "non-premium" golf ball list from the two of you. I do have to say the Tour (the other sleeve i sent) is softer than the Tour X that you guys tested. Keep up the awesome work fellas!!!
Dicks Sporting Goods also owns Golf Galaxy. That’s where I get these balls and live them. Been playing them since last year and I’ve tried a lot of similar balls. Chrome soft, Titleist tour speed, Srixon z-star, etc. Always go back to the maxfli.
Been using this very ball for about a year now. Using the alignment for tee shots has helped me hit more fairways and the high-ish ball flight lends to more greens, dropping my HCI from 10.4 to 8.2 in just a few months. Found this ball to be very workable, for me anyway. Great review, nice to see that this ball behaves the same for better players as it does for me.
These are absolutely great balls for the price! Every so often Dicks and Golf Galaxy will do 4 dozen for $100 US!! Can’t beat that price. They also have a 3 piece ball that in my opinion is closer to a Pro V1 than this model. Great stuff guys!!!
I play the MaxFli Tour and love it. The ball is as good as any ball I have used. I haven't bought any at regular price because Dick's often sells them 2 dozen for $60.
I've noticed that you say urethENE instead of urethANE for ages, so I'm glad someone else pointed it out to you! Since I'm in the US, I thought maybe it was a Northern UK pronunciation... or summat. I think I'm going to try the regular Tour model, as it's softer and will likely spin a bit less, which is good for me.
They are 34.99 per dozen, 60 for 2 dozen, or 105 for 4 dozen. Once my game improves a little more, the Tour or Tour X will be my game ball. I think the only other ball that comes close in price for a “premium” ball is Vice at 30.99 a dozen if you buy 5 dozen.
Maxfli tour x works for me. I was using the Pro-v1x, but got 2 boxes on sale and it seems just as good. I also tried the PXG ball, that ball was good with good spin but felt HARD & clicked off the putter
The reviews on the Maxfli Tour are quite good, and the pricing is impressive. I know I should have played them before buying, but I couldn't resist picking up several dozen at the heavily discounted price of $105 for four dozen. My ball of choice has been Snell, but what I've read suggests this ball may be as good, with even lower pricing.
I can’t see any justification to stop using the Kirkland V2 Performance Plus ball for handicap golf. It’s class, and it’s a quid a ball. I get there’s a ton of R&D in the big stables but four times the price to lose one a round, no thanks
I used the Kirkland V2 for much of the last year and loved it, my mates a pro and gave me some Z-Star XV's to try, found they suit my game better than the V2, with my swing speed the firmer ball gives me better numbers, maybe Kirkland need to do a firmer ball for those who need it.
@@SePhO11 maybe, maybe not, but given that they are a pound a ball, I don’t think they’re going to go big on R&D. I’m not suggesting that premium balls aren’t worth it if you’re fitted either, I’m all for it, but if you are off 15 plus, I just think it’s one less thing to stress about 😂
Imo best ive used in yrs is the Calloway ERC soft. Long, soft, tight dispersion and plays extremely well in wind…holds its line. For $15 less than premiums a dozen i found my ball. Give em a try, you’ll see.
Will need to give this ball another shot. I used it earlier in the yr but that was when my swing was all jacked up. I'd like to see how it performs with an improved swing.
Would love to see your opinions on the top 5 urethane non premium priced ball. Mine are below but not in any specific order. Maxfli tour (or) tour x. TaylorMade Project e (or) Tour Response. Srixon Q Star Tour. OnCore Elixer (or) Vero X1. Vice Pro Tour (or) Pro Zero.
Another cracking talking balls video guy’s, I remember the maxfli revolution golf balls and it being my favourite golf ball back in the day. I would like to see you two film a comparison video comparing Taylormade, callaway,Titleist, Srixon and Bridgestone premium golf balls please
Love the idea of non premium balls being compared together and not against premium balls. Yes to a top five but how about starting with ten, 1v1 to get to the ultimate winner! Battle of the balls! Keep up the great work gentlemen, keep it light and fun as well! Cheers!
My Golf Spy gave them a good score for most Parameters that they test for second only to the pro V one. They were also spin balancing their tour ball. But how do all these premium balls compare to the Kirkland V2.0, for values vs. performance. Please discuss?
The Maxfli Tour X is more comparable to the Pro-V1x, or TP5x. You should have used the regular Maxfli Tour if you're comparing to Pro-V1 / TP5. Here in the states you can get 4-12packs for $104 from Dicks or Golf Galaxy, but not in yellow. Those will cost $35 per 12 pack, or currently they will sell you 2 for $60
Thanks for the review - love this series. If you can, you should test the regular Maxfli Tour (not only the X version), which is more like the ProV1. The X is more similar to the ProV1x. That is also a great ball for those of us who prefer lower compression feel - I also play the Vice Pro and want to test the Wilson Triad and the TaylorMade Tour Response. P.S. The price is before sales tax, which is another few bucks for most states.
It seems like at least half the time Dicks sells these on a special of two dozen for $60 dollars, even periodically throughout the spring, summer, and fall, which makes it an even better deal. James, I wish you would have included at the end of the video the additional sideways cut you were doing when you ended the video. It would have been interesting to see if all the layers were centered in that direction also.
I agree Kirkland balls are great value and my kid can play them and not worry about him losing them. Plus we play a course that you don’t have to care about what ball other than urethane cover.
Since your review on the Seed Ball I invested in a dozen and I must say Im very impressed and ordered more think my days of lake balls is over plus I was told that lake balls are a waste of money as the detirate in the water , whats your thoughts ?
Hey Phil! Lake balls are terrible performers because all golf balls absorb water, and they actually do it quite quickly - in as little as a few hours. The results are a huge drop in ball speed, big loss of distance, and erratic flight, because the water will often not seep in at the same rate uniformly. And once it's in there, there's no drying it out - the ball is permanently damaged. Cheers!
I played a few holes with this ball on Saturday. I was pleasantly surprised. Here in the states, they’re $35.99 a dozen. They didn’t do enough to overtake my vice pro for the price. Can get vice for $19.99 a dozen
I've been using the maxfli tour for about 3 years. The price is nice and it is very similar to the TP5. The X versions all feel too hard but are still very nice and durable. You need Dick's in the UK. Maxfli, Tommy Armour and a few other brands that make the game affordable for a lot more folks. All are good quality and easier on the wallet.
Love this series...BUT...for the money, I don't think you can beat the Kirkland V2 for a mid-to-high handicap. If I get below 10, I would maybe consider a more expensive ball, but for now I am sticking with Costco.
that Kirkland ball is so soft and spinny, so it's all going to come down to preference. I personally hate the feel of a super soft ball, but it's a great ball for those who want that feel/performance.
Hi James, can you please test the Srixon Distance (2022 model) against the ProV1? Todays golfer have released an article saying they tested this and were very surprised by the similarity. Thanks.
Those Kirkland are difficult to beat! May be harder… but… I do not cry when I loose one! 😜 but those New balls seems more expensive when on the shelves here…
The Maxfli Tour is a 3 piece-- comparable to ProV1, the Tour X is comparable to V1X. Dick's in the US is selling a 4 dozen pack of gloss white balls for $104.
$34-36/dz US is the going rate for premium DTC balls like Snell or Vice that also rival the Pro V1 for flight characteristics and quality - which have similar 3-4-piece construction and good QC. Makes sense Maxfli - now a Dick’s in-house brand - is about the same for their premium ball.
I use both the Kirkland and the maxfly depending upon conditions on my course I seem to get a little more distance out of the maxfly purchase them at Dick's Sporting Goods or at Golf Galaxy Dick's happens to own Golf Galaxy.
The Maxfli balls in general are VERY under rated, and if I travel to the States, I usually pick some up for myself and my buddies, as otherwise it's not possible to get them, because Dick's does not deliver to Canada.
James and Chris, Dick's is offering for a limited time, buy 2 dozen for 60.00 Dollars. I justvbought the Maxfli Straightfli golf ball. I believe it is a two piece. We have a Dick's Sporting Goods store in our town. I like to order stuff on their website and just pick it up at the store.
Sounds like you need to do a PRO-V1 vs Taylor Made TP5.. Also James First Shot look like my Drive about 40% of the time. Also would like to see top 5 none PRO V1 Golf balls. Think Kirkland Golf Balls have to be in Top 5..
Interesting that all the balls you've tested and finally read the instructions on the box. The alignment aid is for the balanced point not just for putting 🤣🤣
been playing these this year...really good ball, definitely comparable to pro v . cept its 15 bucks a dozen cheaper!!! only drawback is that they are only available from dicks sporting goods, either in store or online
been playing it all season. plays as good as Titleist and you can get the larger 48 ball packs on sale for just a little more than 2 dozen ProVs. I am done with titleist.
I've been playing the Maxfli Tour/X for years. IMO they have been the best value ball since they came out, but this year's iteration is the best yet. Half the price of a ProV1/X with virtually identical performance. The alignment aid is great too.
