- Dry eye is a complex disease that has many causes that often overlap and interact. For many people, a few simple lifestyle changes can resolve dry eye. For a long time, omega 3 supplements were thought to help alleviate dry eye. But new studies show that omega 3s are not very effective.
Dry eye occurs when the eye does not produce enough tears or when the quality of the tears can’t keep the surface of the eye adequately lubricated. It frequently occurs with other health conditions. Environmental triggers, such as pollution or the weather, play a role. Sometimes it’s caused by medications, such as antihistamines, asthma medication or birth control pills. It can be made worse by computer or contact lens use.

I close my eyes for about 20 seconds every once in a while ( about once every half hour ) and that seems to alleviate my dry eyes.

I have vitreous detachment because of rubbing my eyes. a year ago, my eyes were very dry and itchy so I started to rub them till I felt a severe pain in my right eye(like a cut). next morning, I started to see squiggly lines floating inside my eye (which really affected my vision) and noticed flashes in the side of it. I’m trying to ignore those lines but it’s difficult to focus on objects. I have never been advised to avoid rubbing eyes by any doctor I’ve visited!

I've done this many times over many years. Here's how it goes:
Ophthalmologist: "Your eyes are not producing 'adequate' tears.
Me: I know this. That is why I am here. Here is what I have tried: I take Omega 3 supplements, do antibacterial eyelid/eyelash washes, apply hot compresses to lids and then massage. I have also used Restasis and have taken Doxycycline for 10 months without improvement.
What else can I do?
Ophthalmologist: "I don't know. Maybe you have an immune disorder."
Me: Ok. So how do I fix it?
Ophthalmologist: "I don't know."

Have you asked your ophthalmologist to put in punctal plugs??? They go in your tear ducts. That's what we do for severe cases. They have temporary and permanant ones and are covered by most insurances.

I've been taking fish oil supplement combining with other vitamins like e and c, it does improve my dry eyes and now im into my recovery state but sometimes id still feel the dryness but not always, just occaionally. Supplements helps my overall health and also my dry eyes.

Mine is really severe and it caused because of a strong medicine I used to take. My left is super blurry that even when I wear glasses I still can't see so please seek a help and go to a good eye doctor

Eye doctors generally have no advice that helps with dry eyes. I remember one top notch eye doctor simply said that he didn't want to give me more advice to contradict what others may have advised. I was like wtf? It didn't matter that it cost me a high fee to see him. I guess he has a life style to maintain. Silly me!

It stinks having badly dry eyes, especially for women who would still like to wear eye makeup. Start using tips from this eye doctor, he is very helpful and has wonderful articles to read. Try to combat the problem now instead of waiting until it gets really bad.

@@medhikasingh6327 I’m doing alright, thanks for asking. The dry eye thing seems to come and go like it’ll happen for a month and then leave and come back again. It’s nothing serious and my eyes haven’t been dry recently. However when my eyes were dry and hurt really fucking bad I would warm up a little paper towel soaked in water and warm it for 10 seconds and then put it on my eyes. I would use eye drops but don’t because I’m too scared but if you don’t already I suggest you try eyedrops as I’ve heard they work really well. Of course if it becomes a big problem, go see a doctor 👍

Put water in the eyes to stop dry eyes.
Never put water in eyes. It will worsen dry eyes or might even lead u to it
