I remember reading the first pages of The Eye of the World and thinking "this is what I've been looking for." Fantasy with a cast of real people. It's still my favorite, second only to The Shadow Rising. But if I hadn't loved The Eye of the World, I wouldn't have read TSR. So it's a tie.

Sometime around 1998, I wanted to start reading fantasy, but didn't know where to start. A guy I worked with recommended The Eye of the World and Wizard's First Rule. I read The Eye of the World, and I have never looked back. It was my doorway into fantasy, and therefore holds a special place in my heart.

I’m reading eye of the world for the first time for my book club right now and I’m loving it. Took a while to get into but it’s incredible and I love seeing all the similarities and contrasts to LOTR

Your passion really sells it for me. I'd like to read The Wheel of Time. It sounds amazing!!! I'd also like to read The Forgetting Moon as well. I like grim-dark with a good story and that sounds like that is what that is.

Hi Brian, thank you for all your videos! You've been such an inspiration to me. I love the Darrell K. Sweet covers too; so much so that I bought the entire series in paperback with the original covers!

Some call it the lull or slog, I typically refer to it as the doldrums of WOT. For me, it's mainly POD through COT and I feel it's better now that the series is finished since you can just read straight through knowing the pace will pick back up. It was brutal when it felt like they were wandering aimlessly and you had to wait two or more years to find out what happened next.

Bought another copy because the copy I have has such a horrible cover in comparison to the Darrell K. Sweet cover.

The Sweet covers are a big part of what attracted me to the series originally, i have spent a lot of time over the years studying those covers, I really hate the newer covers they've done for the series, particularly the superbly ugly ones they did after the show came out. Glad I have a whole set of all of the original covers which are all beautiful paintings. Love this series been thinking to reread them myself probably going to pick up the audiobooks though this time

The new 'Eye of the World' cover is🤨 ambiguous like a romantic autobiography. Like a self portrait of a self-obsessed poet. The classic eye of the world cover screams "epic!"😎👹🤯. As always Barakha 🙌🏾 Shalom 🌾🙏🏾.

I’m a little surprised you’re just getting to this now. I was slightly late on WOT, having been busy with school and work, I wasn’t reading as much fiction in the early 90s. I started reading WOT in ‘98, I think Crown of Swords was out in pb and I bought Path of Daggers when it debuted in hardback. I’ve also read those first seven or so about four or five times, and the entire series twice I think, at least the Sanderson collabs are twice. WOT is in my top five series of all-time and Jordan is definitely a huge influence for me as well. BTW, I'm saving your videos about those influential books/writers. I hadn't thought of a more analytical approach until hearing your advice and I greatly appreciate it. Jordan's exposition, along with Tolkien and Martin is some of my favorite.

BRIAN LEE DURFEE Reviews I meant in the context of how influential you consider EOTW and WOT in general. I was surprised when this review showed up in my feed, because I would have thought you had reviewed it already. Not a criticism at all, and it’s cool to hear more of your impressions about the book and series.

I could never get myself to read it. Don't take this amiss, but, to me, it always seemed a blatant photocopy of The Lord of the Rings. The story, the characters, even the names are unapologetically identical. I don't like that.
