Man, this is what my 19" Toshiba CRT/VCR combo unit wishes it could be. Just the same, moment I saw it after walking to the town Thrift Store looking to rebuild my DVD/VHS collection...I knew I was taking the bus home, and I didn't care about the looks I got considering I paid 12 bucks for it, in 2023, in Canadian Loonies. Also, love the shirt, my dude.
Haha too funny, riding on a bus with a CRT - hey I think it's worth it. Especially if that's the best way to get around town. I think these things are going to be hard to find soon so might as well find the best you can while people are still trying to throw them out. I now have 4 CRT TVs and 1 Sony LCD Projection TV - I'm about to clean them up and sell some of them. Keeping the Sony Trinitron and will probably keep one more but rotate it out as I find better ones. For now I'll probably keep the Toshiba 32" I found recently (for $20!) because it's a nice one and I don't feel like moving it again for awhile haha Glad you noticed the shirt too!
This first purchase I made with my paper route money was a 20" Sony Trinitron TV. Similar to yours, but without the vcr. I bought that particular model for its S-Video connector, which nobody I knew ever heard about, but supposedly gave me a sharper picture. It was sharper. I had cleaner graphics in games than any of my friends. That was my gaming tv for many years. Since I never had an allowance that was the first item I purchased with my own money in my life. Thanks for bringing back some nostalgic memories!
Glad you got to see that and relive those memories! Fun and memorable stories. I'll be posting a lot more - I have about 10 CRTs at my place and I'm going to go through the majority of them.
I love this TV, and I think you love it too since it's the one you use the most in your videos, can't blame you it looks great!, some dude in my area was basically giving one away many years ago for $15, it was the European version though, which has stereo and SCART, he even modded it in the back to also accept component and it works with NTSC stuff too, it was an absolute steal and to this day one of my favorite finds.
Damn, that's awesome! What a great and interesting find. Definitely a keeper I hope. And yeah, the display and the actual box looks so awesome on this Sony that I love featuring it in my vids!
Wow! That all black shell with the smooth angled bezels, narrow base, and the VHS slot makes for one aesthetically pleasing CRT!! 🤤 Would love to find one out in the wild. Online prices are f-ing bonkers! And once again awesome work with the filming: your cinematography is on point, sir!
Thank you so much! And yeah, whenever I bought a Super Nintendo last year I went to an estate sale to grab an old TV and this was the first one I found. I found out later that these Sonys are hot commodities! Glad I lucked out on the first try, it was $28 if I remember correctly.
Congratulations 🎉 this is the best snes tv in image quality after bvm and pvm, 14" and 25" looks extreme, mono sound is not a barrier, I used to put mono usualy on my rgb tv, it looks great for my ears 🎮
I always found crt tvs really interesting. Even as a kid it was like a magnifying glass to me. I had many crt tvs. I threw my last one out in 2019. Everything was failing on it. I had it for 17 years. I had the same Sylvania TV you have. The vcr was crap and chewed on my tapes. I only had it for two years. The only good thing was i could watch TV and dvds with it in my bedroom.
That's super neat. I've never really had interest in them until I started buying older games recently and found out the image is way better on CRT TVs. I love this journey so far tho - it's been fun learning all of it.
Tube TVs often had surprisingly beefy speakers, because the large chassis afforded to include them. I love the sound quality of my 32" widescreen Panasonic Quintrix CRT telly. Althought I would love to get a smaller 4:3 set. The Quintrix takes a lot of space and it weighs 60 kg / 132 lbs! The picture quality is lovely too, although its geometry could be better.
Hey Jacob, for current-gen gaming consoles and Blu-ray players you can get an 'HDMI to RF' modulator like from Radio Shack or any online electronic parts vendor... Those are not really expensive at all. Then just pick up all the required cables that you'll need to hook everything up. The reason why I recommend RF over A/V composite, is because RF supports a HIGHER bandwidth. Just make shure the RF coaxial cable you'll be getting is TRIPLE-SHIELDED to prevent noise and artifacts. My friends and I used to do this kinda method to hook up our PS3s and Xbox 360s to older CRTs that don't even support A/V input jacks, and the picture/sound quality KICKS ASS. Everything looks at least 3 or 4 times better than compared to just hookin' up the game consoles up with the included stock A/V composite cables. The graphics looked SO sharp, that they have like a newspaper cut-out quality to them. And the colors will literally POP right off the screen. The modulator will also convert the mono to semi-stereo. You will NOT be needing a separate audio Y adapter for the sound. Tho it will still not be 100% true stereo (cuz your TV only has a single speaker), the processing from digital to analog will no doubt BOOST the audio signal quality significantly. You will begin to notice MUCH clearer/louder audio output from your TV. Hope this helps!
Wow, what the heck - this is all really neat and I appreciate the information! I'll have to try this out and let you know what I think. Maybe I can make a separate video on this exact process - of hooking it up with those cables.
I actually just ended up buying the entire VHS collection at an estate sale yesterday for $40 and we ended up with 381 movies!! Can't believe it. Jurassic Park was definitely in there. I'll have to include it in the next video I make of running the TV!

Honestly, they take up so much space - I'd recommend only having one or two at a time You can play consoles on the one you like the best and sell the other one, then when you find an even better model, sell the lesser of the two. It will not only fund your collection (you can probably buy some old games/consoles too with that money) but you'll not have a pile of TVs taking up space. I'd wait to move out before filling your place with these things.
Glad you enjoyed!! I'm wanting to make more of these videos. I love checking out new (well, old haha) CRTs that I acquire. I just bought a Toshiba that has an internal VCR AND an internal DVD player. I'll be making that one next in the CRT world.
@@JaWayneWOW, 15 CRT TVs? That’s awesome dude - would you please consider doing a video to showcase your CRT collection? Are they varied in size, like many are smaller 13” sets?

It's sad to see they put a 4-head VCR in that nice TV. Hi-Fi sound provided by 6-head VCRs considerably improves the sound output. Without it, it's almost unbearable to watch EP-recorded tapes, for example (as long as the original recording was made in such a VCR as well).
That's crazy, I didn't know all of that. And yeah it's a shame the VCR is eating tapes. Not really sure what to do. Should I use the liquid cleaner solution in the tape cleaner? I actually have some of that from decades ago.
@@JaWayne I don't think the heads have any influence regarding the VCR eating tapes. Perhaps the pinch rollers inside are getting sticky and need replacement, or there's an issue with a belt.

That's awesome! I didn't know that. I don't even know how I'd work on this VCR though since it's inside the TV frame. Does it drop down so you can work on it? Or do you have to take out the tube above it first?
You have to take out the chassis to replace belt because it's a combo tv VCR it's going to be a big job to get out but it can be done if you know how to work on one now if you don't know what am saying you can go online and say how to replace a belt in VCR tv combo and your tv is a combo you have to put that down to pull up the video's online what you need to see

it needs servicing badly, the yoke is likely out of position. i don't know if this set has tilt correction, but you need to get that checked, the image is tilted.
It's fine, stop giving out misinformation. It's tilted from the Earth's magnetic field, if you keep rotating the set it will straighten out but that might not be an option if it's to go inside a cabinet or along a certain wall, it's just something people put up with as you can't tell watching videos. Tilt correction didn't come out until early 2000's flat screens and over 27" in size.
It's actually better on these TVs if you're playing the old stuff - as you convert it to 1080 it actually causes a slight delay and you have to figure out the controls again. But I also am not a gamer so that's only my limited opinion. Maybe you're right! :)

Super Mario World just looks so much more vibrant on the CRT.
It really does - I love that game for all of its colors when testing out CRTs.
I been trying to get old tvs lately but the thing is i dont have much room and i still live under my parents house so do you have any recommendations
There is something special about CRTs that modern TVs just dont have ..
Yup! Especially that magnetic *bump* when you turn one on.
@@JaWayne yesss
Ahh! Yes long live retro games! ❤
It's so exciting to relive these classic games!
Nice video jacob i really enjoyed thanks for sharing
Glad you enjoyed!! I'm wanting to make more of these videos. I love checking out new (well, old haha) CRTs that I acquire. I just bought a Toshiba that has an internal VCR AND an internal DVD player. I'll be making that one next in the CRT world.
@JaWayne nice can't wait to see , I just already buy (new) crt 20inch jvc a series I'm really excited
That's super neat.
I always wanted this tv!
It's a great one and I highly recommend trying to find it!

I have a few N64s now but I don't have any PS1s yet!
@@JaWayne I even play on ps2 on this tv :)
That's awesome!
From where did you purchase this nice television? Didn't you get a remote controller?
I got it at an estate sale for $28 and it came with a remote. It was my first CRT find and my best so far after about 15 CRTs I've bought.
@@JaWayneWOW, 15 CRT TVs? That’s awesome dude - would you please consider doing a video to showcase your CRT collection? Are they varied in size, like many are smaller 13” sets?
Yeah I can definitely do that. I don't know why I haven't thought of that. It'd be neat to showcase all of them and make a neat set up.
I just got one for free. A 20" Trinitron from 1988. It is so heavy. 😂 Owner said it didn't work. I plugged it in. After about 5 minutes it popped on. I need to do some more testing. But nice to have a bug monitor for old VHS and console games.
That's awesome! And I bet it's a neat one if it's from '88. That's badass it was free!!
A very nice channel👍 I like old ctr TV's!
It's fun to find them, especially when they look so sleek and clean.
Very nice video. Just without unnecessary talk, just watch yourself!
Glad you enjoyed it! I'll be making more of these - I now have 3 CRT TVs and will be making 2 more videos in the next few weeks showcasing those TVs. I'm hoping to pick up another TV this weekend as well!
People like myself I started learning how to fix my own VCR players is whiching all the videos online how to repair VCR players at one time I don't know how to fix them myself
It's been fun learning how to fix them and all that!
I have the exact same tv. Love it so much. I got mine for $25
That beats mine - mine was $28. Both AMAZING deals since it's highly sought out. Great CRT.
Just need a bit a fix in the yoke to fix the tilted screen and it’s perfect 👌
Yeah I want to make this thing 100% quality!
How do you do this? I have the same TV
Trinitrons have a pretty robust service menu, should be a tilt correction in there
@@albatrosses Take off the back cover of the TV and adjust the yoke. Working with high voltages is dangerous so make sure to take safety precautions so you won't get electrocuted
I really should add a VHS Combo CRT TV, to my Nostalgia Room! I have 2 CRTs, so far. LoL XD
Yeah those are harder to find - especially one that the TV AND the VCR work.
@@JaWayne(UPDATE) I FINALLY got one! I finally got my own 20 Inch Sony Trinitron VCR Combo! & It's VERY Close to this one! & It's from the year I was born in! 👀✨
That's so awesome, love this combo!
Wow i remember the days when people hated 16:9 ratio. People were so used to 4:3.
I remember that being a weird transition but it's funny how much sense it made since film was typically shot that way and theaters displayed that way. But I remember them doing the easy way sometimes and stretching the image to fit.
I have a new tv and a hdmi converter and i get no where near this picture.
Yeah it's wild how much of a difference it makes! I'm glad I found this one and it was super affordable!

Yes, the SNES is the original GOAT haha - and I do love that internal VCR
I would not trust my tapes with the VCRs on TVs. I was literally just playing around with the VCR of my JVC TV and two of my tapes snapped because it couldn't auto slow down at the end of the rewind.
Yeah that's terrifying to me - and it's impossible to take apart with the tube in there too.
Love crts they need to bring them back and have freeview built in

@@JaWayne ..Definitely. I got the sony 36xbr800. Bought it with the original stand..remote and instruction manual in mint condition hardly been used for 40 bucks from Craigslist NY in 2020.
No way they would add a 6 head when 4 head was a standard for mid range standalone VCRs from nearly every single manufacturer including JVC and Panasonic

it needs servicing badly, the yoke is likely out of position.
i don't know if this set has tilt correction, but you need to get that checked, the image is tilted.
Ohhh wow I didn't realize that. So crazy - thanks for the info!!
It's fine, stop giving out misinformation. It's tilted from the Earth's magnetic field, if you keep rotating the set it will straighten out but that might not be an option if it's to go inside a cabinet or along a certain wall, it's just something people put up with as you can't tell watching videos. Why do you have that junk? Save your money or upgrade to 1080p tvs or 4k tvs for gaming it's better
It's actually better on these TVs if you're playing the old stuff - as you convert it to 1080 it actually causes a slight delay and you have to figure out the controls again. But I also am not a gamer so that's only my limited opinion. Maybe you're right! :)

What is a scart socket? I'm interested to know!
It is a typical european analoge connection for RGB Video it is similar to your yuv component cables that are more popular in the usa than in europe but we had that rgb connection for best picture qualit way earlier than you i think.. i think back in the they the best option for you was to look for a s-video connection if you want to get a better signal than RF and composite (yellow) I am not shure if the us snes carries rgb from stock without mods .. for europen it delivers the best picture .. if you want to use upscalers like framemeister, ossc, retrotink.. good shielded rgb scart cables are almost mandatory to use otherwise you wont get very happy with modee flat tvs... but as well my bang & olufsen crt never looked that good if i woule not use good rgb scart cables on it.. read the wikipedia page for scart .. but hey you had worse picture back in the day but you always had 60hz we got 60 hz since ps2 era as i remember.. before videogaming was just 50hz in europe
