I just discovered your channel today, your work is amazing! I'm a Greek, living in Athens and just so you know the shipwreck is still there. When i was a kid, i was always persuating my parents to take the old road and not the highway, so i can see it when we were leaving Athens.
I used to go with my sister and my parents every year between 1980 and early 90s with the ships of the Karageorgis Lines from Ancona to Patras and back to spend my summer holidays in Greece..... I have countless beautiful memories of these great ships and my childhood / youth. Thank you very much for these great impressions, even if it makes me a little sad how it ended. Best regards from Germany Ro
Great video, with beautiful ships. I sailed on the Mediterranean Sea from Ancona to Patras in June 1974.I was a boy but I remember that in comparison with the old Efthymiadis ships she was like new, modern and luxurious. Then i sailed back to Ancona on her one month later. The Efthymiadis ferries should be an interesting theme: they were four swedish tankers converted in ferries,at the time the biggest ferries in the world. They had nice accomodations, modern for their era, enormous decks and a good on board service, that became worse after a few years. Their names? Phaistos,Minos,Sofia and Heleanna. The last one made headlines for a dramatic fire in August 1971,with the loss of 25 lives.Sofia and Heleanna served on the Patras Ancona line, while Minos and Phaistos served mainly on the Pireus Heraklion,or the Pireus Rhodos, later joined by the Sofia.
So fascinating, Henry! Thank you for this video! Your artwork is perfection and the shots on board the SKY at Petrola are stunning! BTW, I had no idea they had to adjust the SEA's superstructure. Makes much sense.
