I've watched many videos about this topic and read about it in various textbooks and on various websites, but I still didn't really understand the difference in usage between ~기 and ~는 거. This is without doubt the most comprehensive explanation that I've seen and it effectively captures the nuances in a way that an English speaker can easily understand. Your teaching style is so effective and I love that you bring so many real example sentences that capture the exceptions and different usages (even unintentionally!). And along the way you introduce genuinely useful vocabulary too. Some textbooks teach contrived examples or obscure vocabulary that is of little use in daily conversation, but there is so much useful content in your lessons that two hours flies by. Thank you so much for all your hard work in preparing and delivering these classes for us. I usually can't join them live but the recordings are a fantastic resource to help my studies.

Thank you for being so kind with such nice and detailed compliments💕 I am really glad I could be of help. And by your "even unintentionally!" part I can see that you made it to almost the end part of this lesson haha :) I really hope that you keep up with your Korean study, and I also hope I continue to be of help with your journey. Matthew 씨, 정말 감사합니다. 화이팅!

Difference between ~기 and ~(으)ㄴ/는 것 is always tricky to teach. I can only imagine how much you must’ve prepared for this class!!! So great! 👍🏼👏🏼
I’d like to add a small tip that may help for 31:40. You can use ~기 only when the subject who feels the emotion in the emotion verb is the same person who does the actions. ☺️
저는 청소하기를 싫어해요(or 청소하기가 싫어요). (O)
    I don’t like to clean/cleaning.
”I” is the subject for both cleaning and not liking.
    엄마는 청소하기를 싫어해요. (O)
    Mom doesn’t like to clean/cleaning.
”mom” is the subject for both cleaning and not liking.
    저는 엄마가 청소하기를 싫어해요. (X)
The subject for not liking is “I”, while the subject for cleaning is “mom”. In this case, you can’t use ~기.
    엄마는 제가 청소하기를 싫어해요. (X)
The subject for not liking is “mom”, while the subject for cleaning is “I”. In this case, you can’t use ~기, either.
Thank you for the great lesson again. I’ve learned a lot on how to make meticulous and detailed online lesson for learners. 수고하셨습니다. 오늘도 많이 배우고 갑니다. 🙏🏼

I was looking for a class to learn these two particles and I saw this two-hour live and other channels with classes of a maximum of twenty minutes. But then I thought, "If Miss Vicky needed two hours to explain, it is because it really needs time to learn."
I was correct! Really thanks for the explanation, I love how you don't "skip" details for considering it insignificant.

I just want to say that this particular lesson was such a breakthrough for me in learning Korean. So many sentences use this and I never truly understood what it was all about until your very thorough explanation. Also, comparing with the uses of "what" and "that" in English as relative pronouns and subordinate conjugations respectively absolutely blew my mind. It's one of those things that I had never really thought about in my own native language. It made me think more deeply about the structure of English as well as Korean.
In short, thank you Miss Vicky! You're a lifesaver. I hope you're taking time to rest and take care of yourself.

A very helpful and complete lesson. I have been learning Korean for several years but until this year I still haven't been capable of build sentences because for some strange reason the Korean teachers I've had until now (and every text book I got and every Korean RUclipsr teacher I watched) seemed to think that telling us that Korean is a S-O-V language was all we needed to figure out how subordinate and conjunction sentences were build and worked in Korean. Why didn't anyone explain me this before? Maybe I am old school but I needed a lot this kind of explanation making clear things breaking down sentences like you did, so the objects, subjects and parts of the sentence were clear and easy to understand grammatically the same way I do in my own language. My brain needs to understand sentences that way. Now I have got a little more confident and can start practicing it. I am very, very grateful to you for gifting us with this lesson, and I will check out too the other live lessons you uploaded. 선생님, 가르쳐서 감사합니다.

And then you can move on the grammar lessons in the playlist here :

After reading all the positive the reviews from this video and yet not understanding much, makes me believe this might not be the language for me. It has been extremely frustrating. This topic has been bogging me down for a while now. On the other hand you explain with plenty of examples and that’s very helpful to many! I will give it a go to other topics to reassure I still can have a chance to speak this language. Thank you for your effort

안녕하세요! Thank you for opening up about your struggles :) I just want to reassure you that it's okay not to grasp every single grammar point right away. If you do, that's great, but if not, just know that these concepts exist and move on the ones you do understand. As for this grammar, there isn't much difference in meaning between -기 and -는 것. It's more about using one over the other based on what sounds more natural. My suggestion for now is, when in doubt, just go with -는 것 and you will sound natural most of the time. If you've heard a native speaker use -기 for certain words or contexts, then feel free to use that. For example, we tend to say 듣기 when referring to listening skills and 말하기 for speaking skills, rather than 듣는 거 and 말하는 거, although both are grammatically correct. I hope this provided some assistance!

Thankyou so much for this video, i've been watching ur videos a lot for improving my korean, but i still have a bit confusion with when to use -거(가) or 게 and 거(를) or 걸, bcs in the examples there are some that use 게 and some of them are using 걸 and that's make me a bit confused😅😅 is there any rules or we can use that both in the same meaning? Maybe someone in this comment section can answer it😄😄
But, after all, your lessons are always great!! 감사합니다^^

1:24:10 I don’t get how we used the subject marking particles three times?? In 우리 , 거, and 전부 how does this work? I thought we only add 가/이 to the subject

Amazing video!! I have one question; what i noticed is that (거) takes sometimes subject or object particles, i just don’t know when?? Sometimes its easy like if its an object and so but sometimes its an object but takes 가 instead of 를 and the other way around.
    Can someone pls explain it?

Is it kind of like putting the stress on different words in English? I’m around 47:45 in the video.
For -기 무서워요 is that like saying I am scared to call *them*. Because I feel like it’s used in a conversation that’s happening about something that’s coming up.
For -는 게 무서워요 is it like saying I am *scared* to call them. Very matter of fact and to the point.
    Or is it all situational?

Do you have a video about how to conjucate adjectives? Like I learned how to make the "That person is beautiful" adjective to the "beautiful person" adjective, but I don't know how to go from the "어렵다" to the "어려워요" version.

In Korean, even adjectives have to be combated just like normal verbs.
You can find a present tense conjugation video in this channel. Adjectives / descriptive verbs also follow the same rule

Maybe it’s too late and you already know ,but it’s bc it an action like the action of „not understanding“ so you use 에서 .
When you use 에 it is only for time and like locations of things ,persons etc in general where there is no action itself like standing ,sitting or even just being there.

    • @pike_pushup
      @pike_pushup 3 года назад

는 can be differentiated to 은/는.
를 can be differentiated to 을/를.
And 것 is the correct form, but you can say it as 거 if you want(many people speak that way cause it is much easier to say). And 것을 can be shortend to 걸.(것을 -> 거를 -> 걸)
