I have a question about the 일 거예요 pattern. In the sentence '그 사람은 지수의 남편을 거예요' what is the implied guess. Does Jisoo already have a husband and the speaker is guessing which man could be her husband? Or is it that the speaker is looking at a man (maybe Jisoo's current boyfriend) and saying 'I think that person might become Jisoo's husband someday.'? Thanks for a wonderful lecture video!

입니다 is the combination of 이다 + "ㅂ/습니다" ending, which is slightly more formal than "예요/이에요" ending, but since the same 이다 verb is used, it means the same thing.
      E.g.
      저는 빅키입니다 = 저는 빅키예요.

습니다 is used for action/descriptive verbs that end in a consonant. ㅂ니다 is for ones that end in vowels.
먹습니다. Eat. (Action verb consonant end)
예쁩니다. Pretty. (Descriptive verb vowel end)
갑니다. Go. (Action verb vowel end)
덥습니다. Hot. (Descriptive verb consonant end)
합니다 = from 하다 = to do, formal ending.
입니다 = from 이다 = to be, formal ending

As for "now she is a good mother" can I also use 이제 instead of 지금? Thanks!

    • @chahak34
      @chahak34 Год назад +1

      Yes you can
Although there is a difference between them
이제 is used when something started happening or someone started to be and it will continue in the future
For example when you can make a resolution you have the intention to continue it in the future
Whereas 지금 is used when something is happening only for a particular moment for example time when someone asks you the time like what is the time in Korean you will ask 지금 몇 시야 cause the time will change you can't use 이제 here
Sometimes there are interchangeable like this sentence we don't know if she will continue to be a good mother or not, but if we do know than we can use 이제 or if it is Eunji saying that about herself she can use 이제
      Hope it helped

This grammar is for beginners, but it would also help if you’re at a higher level and don’t have enough understanding about 이다 verb :)

      No
It would literally mean " I am Czech Republic" like the country
When you want to say that you are a person living in that country you will have to add 인 or 사람 to it

As a native speaker, I want to point out that '-이다(Ida)' is NOT actually a verb. '이다' is always combined with 체언(noun+pronoun+number), and this phenomenon is NEVER found in verb nor adjective.
'-이다' is a particle(서술격 조사), and it doesn't conjugate like verb - it conjugates like adjective. (In Korean, we separate verb and adjective according to whether it follows verb conjugation or adjective conjugation).
One thing is that Korean verb and Korean adjective isn't really similar to English verb and English adjective. I think it will be easier for learners to consider Korean adjective as 'be + English adjective'. So, for example, Korean adjective '예쁘다' is equal to 'be pretty'.
Similarly, '-이다' is always combined with 체언(noun+pronoun+number), and its form will always be 'noun + -이다 (be + noun, in English).' If you understand this, then I think it will make sense to you that '이다(be)' conjugates similar to Korean adjective (but it is still NOT an adjective).

+ I said, "In Korean, we separate verb and adjective according to whether it follows verb conjugation or adjective conjugation." This rule is usually strictly followed, but some words are even hard for Koreans to distinguish - ex 잘생기다 (be handsome) was previously an adjective, but it 'changed' to a verb in dictionary(5 years ago). It is because, although it partly follows adjective conjugation, it mostly follows verb conjugation. You don't need to worry about this because these kinds of words are very few.

"♤that person will be (might be) Jisoo 's hasband" 에서 will be 나 might be 둘 다 함께 쓸 수 있답니다 두 sentences 는 어떤 특정 사건에 대한 목격자로서 경찰에게 진술할 때 얼핏 본 사람에 대한 자신없는
그러면 "taht person will become Jisoo's hasband soon" 을 적당하게 바꿔보면
That person and Jisoo will marry soon.
