Nearly every therapy session I've ever paid for has been less useful than this.
Thanks for proposing some ways of processing that you've found useful. And explaining them the way they make sense for you.
They're pretty applicable to me too - in ways that a lot of therapists just... aren't. Because what they had signed off on, as things they're allowed to teach people... just aren't a good fit for me. Or they're explaining it in ways that don't help.
So... thanks. I appreciate you internet friend.

I wore jeans to bed for years as a kid (during the school week) because I was too lazy to switch clothes back and forth and it was nothing to me, but one day I just couldn't tolerate sleeping in jeans anymore. Like I couldn't stand it where it had been a completely neutral sensation before. And now I HAVE to change clothes after I get home from work (or so says my brain). I don't know what causes my brain to change its opinion so aggressively and suddenly 🙃

A tip from a lactose-intolerant yogurt lover: if you make your own yogurt, you can leave it to… ripen? Ferment? Culture? for longer so that the critters that turn the milk to yogurt can digest all the lactose, so you don’t have to.

Something that I have seen on the internet as a helpful tool for starting up again, and it seems to work about 3/4 of the time for me: set a timer for a short amount of time and get going with it. When the timer goes out, you can keep going, reset the timer for another check in session if needed, or set the work away and know that you have made progress on it. (Rewording the idea for how it works for me in real life terms.)
I like that I tend to make forwards progress most times, and even reverse progress is a learning experience for what didn’t work out well that way.
I hope that this helps you some, and Shalom as well!

Jeesus Charlie, I feel ya. 😅 So many things that you just said are things that I have also struggled a LOT with and use the ecxact same coping skills for them. Those feelings are valid. I think a lot of people get stuck in qualifying if the "brainhurt" or "weirdness" comes from a valid reason without realising that it already is here. Some people drown in 3 meters of water and others drown in 3 kilometers. It does not really matter how deep the water was, the situation is still the same. You feeling weird is completely valid and the things that make you feel weird are valid. ❤
With realising that I am ADHD helped me to find more coping skills that work for my brain and not against it. 'Cause, in the end, if there is a way to do things that help your brain instead of hurting it, then why the heckity-hoo not? Might help anyone reading this too.

Love the new dress - it's gorgeous and fits perfectly. Also loved the chat about screwing our heads back on and taking the time to figure out why we're out of sorts. And of course, YAY for Matt's return. Happily awaiting the next step in your sewing room - I'm sure it will be terrific. The voices in my head are screaming out organizational ideas and that you should watch Shannon Makes episode about her amazing table. It's big, it's on wheels, it has a top on which you can pin fabric, it has shelves for fabric, trim, patterns and such. One woman put a power strip on hers so that she can also iron on a pad Some people op for the ability to raise and lower it - my point is that you will figure stuff out that suits you, not some other Maker. Best wishes.

I think its kinda funny, kinda sweet all the AuDHD-ers are relating to this. Myself included.
Idk if you have a diagnosis or care to get one but a lot of what you said is a very typical neurodiverse experience; looking into adhd might help you and your parfait brain a lot!
Either way its good to know other people go through this, thank you for being so open, its nice to be seen

Just wanted to say thank you for the care you put into your captions! Some of the things you do, like specifying when it’s video-you or voiceover-you speaking (which is fantastic for lip-readers) go above and beyond what’s expected for professional captioners and I am incredibly grateful.
If I could make a tiny request, though, do you think you could have the little [message] at the beginning/end as actual text on the screen? When the audio and captions don’t match, it (unintentionally!) assumes the viewer can hear well enough to tell the difference. I love the extra messages you leave in your videos, but the current format is less accessible to your deaf/HOH audience

My gosh I love watching…listening…to your videos. Today, was so deep and I LOVED IT! So, try this…next time you can’t find your keys. You are walking around the house, mentally thinking…keys?keys? Keys? Stop…say the words out loud…”where are my keys” and your brain will instantly go to the last time you used them and thus..where you put them. There does not have to be anyone in the house, a dog will do as a listener, but your brains NEEDS to hear the words. It is how some of us just work. You are loved, you are fantastic, you can do this!👍

when your pile of fabrics will be ready to move back to your studio, you can take a chance and create digital version of your stash. it's rather easy to do via notion, but there're multiple cross platform tools out there
i did this a while back and it saves me so much time when I'm planning the project! yes, with the amount of fabric you already have, the task could feel rather tedious but it's so worth it!
you can create fabric cards with different properties, add pictures of a fabrics, group them by properties so than you can filthher them out (for example the type of a print - stripes/flowers/dots and so on), show how many feet you have left, whether you've washed it or not, whether it's knit or not, have you got a thread for the fabric - options are limitless!
I'm sure with your love for a good table you'll love it too :)
also the pictures can be shown in the main catalogue as a "card cover", properties can be shown as well and voila you have all of your stash right in front of you, like it's in the online shop :)

Also, my brain lately works along the lines of the memefied "... x number of tabs open, two of them are playing music and you don't know which they are..." Super distracting in addition to the outside chaos produced by two tiny humans. So I feel you so much on the psychology level.

Not gonna lie...I want to make a dozen or more of these for daily wear. I'm the type to get dressed to go to the store, take Kiddo to school, or drive Hubs to work, then change as soon as I get back home.
Everything you make on your channel inspires me to actually start sewing my own garments, rather than cycle through the same few things that are comfy, which wears them out so fast.

This dress is fabulous, really! Trying to produce a project which is simple is not easy - there's a challenge for you.
Years ago I decided it was time to learn to calm down all those voices in my head - about 5 conversations going on at once. I took up meditation by going to classes and learning about different ways of doing meditation. I made up a routine which I practised twice daily, starting with 2 minutes a session. Six months later my mind was calmer and less loud.
Looking into the subject of autism makes me feel I had most of the symptoms till then. One exception is that I can concentrate if I want to. Oh! A second exception is that I like people and being in the midst of a crowd. I guess we are all different.

Three things: 1) I so needed this video right now. Thank you! My husband was laid off last fall and is working on some projects that may turn into a business which means he is in my space *all the time*. Every time I try to get some space for myself, something ends up messing up my plan. I have tried to pretend it is fine but in the end I get depressed and resentful. I had toyed with the idea today to set up a work area in the back of my car so I can drive somewhere pretty and work. I am realizing from your video I 100% have to do that so I can make a space that is only for me. 2) That dress is amazing! I know exactly what you mean about clothes that hug but don't squeeze. 3) The end of all your videos when you smile, twirl, and show off the project just elevate whatever you made 10x. Thank you for another great video and the brain talk. 🧠🤔

The dress IS delightful and the crunchy mental state so relatable ❤. You should definitely make a skirt (or 3😂) with some of that elastic. It would be fantastic with some dark lightweight denim or black corduroy. It would also be useful as just a belt. You could easily slip the elastic band into a tube of any fabric to create a belt to match anything.

I totally hear you on the feeling your hair thing, although for me when it kicks in I start feeling them all at the /root/, and that is...less avoidable. 🤣😭
The balance I've had to find is how to feel what I'm feeling, allow it to bother me, but continue on with what needs to happen while being in that headspace. It's a super-hard balance, because I'm absolutely a stiff-upper-lip type, but knowing how to exist alongside the not-great feelings and not let them affect other people too badly is really how I can keep going.

Hearing about how you need to figure out checkpoints before you can stop is sooo relatable. We I have a project that I know I can't finish in a single go, I write out checkpoints and try to just think of getting to the checkpoint as 'finishing' and not think of the larger project. It's hard for me to start if I don't think I can finish it in that go and it really helps. I also have issues with task switching so getting started can sometimes be my greatest hurdle.
