As is well known, Constantinople is named after the city that was originally called Byzantium. Byzantium, in turn, is the ancient Greek city, whose inhabitant was Byzas from Megara. Byzas, before starting the research for the establishment of his colony, visited the oracle of Delphi, to ask for the necessary oracle on the most suitable place for colonization. The oracle, as usual, gave him a dark oracle instructing Byzantium to build the new city in the "land of the blind".
Byzas after many wanderings found himself on the shores of the Bosphorus and sat down on a hill to rest and think further. Suddenly, he saw on the opposite side, on the European coast, an amazing location today's Constantinople, and he thought: "But, are people blind and do not build a city in this amazing place?". Then the oracle of the oracle about the "land of the blind" came to his mind and thus he decided to colonize Byzantium. That's according to mythology.

Turkey is nothing with middle east culturally or geographically. This is anatolia or asia minor. If these place is called middle east, greeks are middle eastern, because these lands are greek!!!!!!

    Hello guys,
The white , white drink called ayran is a yoghurt+water+salt, lemon Mix, is refreshing and a really good electrolyte drink.
The red ,spicy dip of tiny scliced vegetables..its called ezme Salad.
The cuisine its really very hearty. The meat is mostly very good halal quality. Having good meat is a thing of pride.😅
You can without no problem try food from imbisses, cause having a clean Imbiss is another thing of pride. 😅
Please check out the turkish Pizza called lahmancun- its served without cheese, but with fresh herbs, Lemon and Salad, super crispy. Döner and dürum sandwiches of all kinds.
As Desert i can recommend sütlac , its a baked, sweet rice dish.
    Try fish. 🕊🧡🕊

Istanbul is a beautiful city. you would feel great awe when you entered Hagia Sophia. it is a cultural heritage monument, despite this they turned it back into a mosque. The iconography -mosaic you saw earlier depicts Saint Constantine, founder of the church of Agia Sophia who offers the church and Justinian offers the city Constantinople to Christ and Holy Mary.

That was historical crime, converting the heart of Christian Orthodoxy to a mosque. Just to upset the greeks. History cannot be re-written, Aghia Sofia’s damaged or covered Jesus Christ and Virgin Mary’s agiographies will always live inside their and our church.

I was in Istanbul a week ago. Here are some point to be aware off. Avoid taxi at all cost, they are scam artists. Get ISTANBUL card and use public transportation. Do not buy from grand bazar. Prices are inflated. However, you can get best exchange rate there. If you feel like getting some ice cream (recommend) get it from Mado (also green colored pistachio baklava) street vendors will charge you much more for the show. Enjoy

@@reefjosey1947 learn history , Thraki is greek as was half of modern day Turkey. The Ottoma mongolic tribes migrated from Central Asia thousand of years after the ancient greeks established in what is known known now as modern day Turkey. There was not such country named as Turkey . It was created by usurping lands of the greeks, armenians and assyrians. Eastern Thrace now part of Turkey was the historical center of greek Byzantines Aghia Sofia, the sympbol or orthodoxy which the dispespeftful Turks recently converted it into a mosque.

@@Olympicspirit you think we look like pure Central Asian? come Turkey, look at our eyes, there is more than your teacher teach you in the school. mycenaes were always invaders in Thracia and Anatolia and Cyprus in History. Look at Trojan war and Gallipolli. Do you think this is coincidence? Today we are carry Anatolian genes. And we say that Central Asians are not barbarians. here is Asia minor (Anatolia). This idea comes from thousands of years ago. but your lineage identified them as barbarians as well as today. Such an idea never existed in Anatolia. This difference of opinion initiates the great break.. we've been here for thousands of years. this idea is still alive. for us, here is the place where asians and europeans are conjoined. it was the same 7000 years ago. While you see Mount Olympus around peloponnese and Atina(Moria in Turkish ) as a gods house, we believed Anatolian history. As Anatolian Turks, we did not define Central Asians as barbarians, in history, in today and in the past and in the future.. they are a part of us as well as others.. If you can't see enough of the past. You can guess what happened in the past from this point. please be smart now, and Respect our choices.

Arena is not the same as hippodrome. Arena was a venue for gladiatorial combat. Anyway the wall you found is a hippodrome which is a venue with a race track, not for horseracing, but chariot-racing. Just like Ben-Hur as you mentioned.
In the introduction you said it was known for centuries as Constantinople, capital of the Eastern Roman Empire. You forgot to mention it was invaded and taken by the Ottomans who insist on calling it Istambul.
Hagia Sophia is not a mosque, it is a christian-byzantine domed church built by Justinian. Under the Ottomans it was used as a mosque, and became a museum-church in the 20th century, nowadays the authorities want to use again as a mosque, but again it was not built as a mosque.
    Anyway, good tour-video.

I'm a native-born Istanbulite, but I was so done with the overpopulation, so I left for Izmir, and now that I see it has gotten even dirtier and even more packed up makes me think it was a good idea to leave. Beautiful city but people are care-free, honestly. Trash everywhere, and so many ugly buildings in suburbs. To visit for a few days, could be fun but living there is so stressful. Enjoy uour time anyway. South coast of Turkey is much better. Bodrum is one of my fav, Antalya is also quite beautiful.
