Beautiful workmanship pal and I just love your method of adjustment. My daughter just told me and my wife that she is pregnant. She wants me to build the crib and wouldn't have it any other way. Thanks for sharing your video and your method of adjustment. The adjustment part is the only part of the crib that had me stumped. Thanks again for sharing.
Great job Jordan, both the design and craftsmanship. Keep this slideshow! My son and I built a crib together - put together a slideshow similar to this. I incorporated a place to store the cd for future generations to watch. Thanks for sharing your build - brought back some fond memories.
You did a wonderful job building this crib. I am in the process of building a crib for my grand daughter who should arrive in June. The mattress frame and means of adjusting the mattress were the most difficult for me also. Great job and thanks for your video!
Awesome! I'm sure she is going to love it. I just adjusted mine back to its highest setting for No 2, due next week! charlie is already off to her "big girl" room.
Nice crib. Its beautiful The mattress is very important also I read articles blaming flame retardant materials in baby mattresses as the main probable causes of SIDS. They emit poisonous gasses. One of the reasons most SIDS occurrences happen when Children sleep on their stomach( face in mattress) Make sure the mattress is non toxic and free of flame retardants. A good safe organic wool , cotton and rubber latex mattress will cost you close to 500.00 but there is no price as far as I'm concerned when it comes to our little ones. Also the paint and glue used on cribs is equally important (Infants tend to chew on the rails) some cribs use pressed board platforms that are full of chemicals. Please do your research there is tons of info on this subject online.
I like your design and workmanship. I want to build a crib for my first grand child. I plan on making the frame supporting the mattress adjustable so I can lower the support frame as the child grows thereby lowering the mattress. How did you attach your mattress frame to to the corner posts of your crib? I hope I am clear in my question. I am the kind of woodworker that has to draw up my plan before I start. Your insight is appreciated. Thank you.
Thanks for the compliment! I hope you do end up building one for your grand child, it was very rewarding for me. The side rails of the mattress support extend almost the full length of the crib and fit tightly between the posts, I then drilled a hole into them and ran an allen screw into a threaded insert nut on each post. I placed 4 of these at 2 different heights so the mattress is adjustable, the final adjustment will sit on the bottom rail. At 3:25 you can see the nuts and allen head bolt.
Beautiful!! I also would like to know how you made it adjustable... you said it was simple with only a few Allen bolts... Thank you for your video and inspiration!
Hello Jordan... man you did an awesome job with the crib.. I feel the love that you put into it. If you don't mind I´ll try to copy it. Thanks for the idea
Hi Jordan! Greetings from Venezuela! Could you please explain how the mecanism to adjust the high of the matress works? You said it is easy and with an Allen key... Thanks in advance for your response! And thanks for the video!
The finish that I used is made by Tried and True and I used the "Danish Oil" finish. I did plenty of research and that is what I found to be the best option.
Would you post the a few of the measurements length width height? and spacing between the railings? That would be great. I would like to build one. Is that Oak?
It is #2 solid maple. It has more pronounced grain than #1 which I like and its less expensive. With regard to dimensions, it's important to note that I built the entire thing based on the mattress that I picked out ahead of time. I used those dimensions plus a quarter inch each way so that there would be no chance of little feet getting caught in between. And because its custom, make the height such that it is comfortable for the parents to lean over and pick up your baby on the mattress's lowest setting. This may help too: I made the side rails the same length as the mattress, and the end rails the same width as the mattress, then I set them back a quarter inch off the inside of the posts. Hope this helps! Thanks for the comment!
Great Vid! Was wondering - Is there a special method to make the two mortises on two adjacent sides of the wooden leg ? Since they overlapping each other, I'm trying to figure out the best way to achieve the result shown in the video ...
Jordan, the width of the crib should be 32" if you combin the 28" ends with the 2" posts. Am I correct in this? Did you have and trouble fitting that through the door?
Hey Oliver, the mortise and tenon joints that connect the sides to the ends are not glued together. They were made to fit very tightly and then the mattress base is connected to both ends so there is no way for it to come apart. All I have to do is remove the screws holding the base and I can break it down for easy transport. I hope that helps!
Jordan McLaughlin Oh man that helps a ton. Thank you. I'm half way done with the tenon and mortise joints. I've been doing a lot by hand so it's taking a while.
This is an awesome crib. I am going to attempt to build something very similar to this, and I am trying to decipher your material list (mine look just as sloppy), but I can not figure out your corner post. Why didn't you just use a solid piece? What are the dimensions of the pieces you used to build it? Last question, do you think you could have just used a plunge router to make the mortises? Thanks
Shaydawg88, thanks for the compliment! I hope you ultimately decide to tackle it, it was time consuming but totally worth it in my opinion. To answer your questions; it is very difficult and more importantly, very expensive to buy 4 x 4 posts in any sort of hardwood. I was able to buy a couple of 8/4 boards, plane them, and then laminate them for a lot less. As a plus, laminated posts are more stable than solid posts as well. You can definitely do mortise and tenon joints with a router, and there are many videos that show you the process. Good Luck!
The subjects covered in this wood working book “Bαzοmο Tdy Plαn” (Google it) varies from wood types to tool types as well as uses. It also informs you concerning the several types of wood and just how simple or hard they`re to work with. If you are still a beginner in wood working, then you`ll find this book very beneficial. .

Nice job , great song ! Do You know if there are any safe clear finishes for baby and or child furniture ? Thanks !

Nope, no special method, the tenons will meet each other in the middle so one will need to be shorter than the other.
Great thanks! :)
Great job!!! We are expecting our 1st in April, and this is on my list.
Is that Maple?
No. 2 maple, yes.

That makes perfect sense. Thanks for the information!
Do you have plans you can share? If not can you share the measurements of the the lumber cuts, i.e. legs, slats, etc?
lotta work nice job does it weigh 500 lbs...? lol thanks
can this become a 3 in 1 crib?
You can find nice instructions on stodoys if you like to build it
