    If either Lindsay Mendez or Ashley Park win best featured actress I will be happy. Both of their performances are equally funny and moving. I’m truly hoping Ethan Slater wins for best leading actor he’s incredible in the role. For best leading actress I honestly think Taylor Louderman deserves it the most. Her Regina is funny, sexy, yet not too over the top. For Best Musical I’m sorry Mean Girls fans But I truly think Spongebob is the most original and most creative and genuinely pleasing show of the 2017-2018 Broadway Season.

    Can people stop saying Bands Visit is boring and doesn’t have imagination or creativity to be on broadway? Just cause it goes a different, more emotional route that doesn’t appeal to the masses doesn’t mean it’s not good enough to win best musical. Also it’s a great contrast to Spongebob, love both shows and wouldn’t mind either winning.

    I LIVE FOR THESE VIDEOS!
    I'm really rooting for the company of Carousel. That show is mind-blowing from the material to the choreography to the performances. That show is the one in which I have the most emotional investment.

    Honestly hoping Ethan Slater wins his category! I never thought someone could pull off portraying SpongeBob live, but he does it effortlessly. And Ashley Park more than deserves Best Featured Actress.

    • @christiandorey3381
      @christiandorey3381 6 лет назад +3

      Kelseigh Ingram He’s going to his only threat is Joshua Henry. Although it doesn’t seem like it. Sponge bob is an extremely vocally demanding role. And as for the Featured Actress tony. Lindsay Mendez has it locked in. I have been following her for a very long time and I think this is her award. The role of Carrie Pipperidge is a role that has jumpstarted many careers. It’s a role that requires so much energy and time to perfect. And I believe she’s done that. Ashley Park does deserve it don’t get me wrong. Just not this year.

    • @dinosaurrawr845
      @dinosaurrawr845 6 лет назад +1

      I think Joshua Henry is winning this year. While SpongeBob is very vocally and physically demanding, Billy Bigelow is also if not MORE, physically and vocally demanding. Joshua succeeds in making Billy seem to have morals and his take on Soliloquy is PERFECT! Ethan does a great job of taking a cartoon character to the stage and making it seem fresh and original, but I think the Tony is going to Joshua Henry.

      @pandamonika 6 лет назад +6

      I mean, it's not bad, nice show to go see with your kids, but there was nothing innovative about the story or the way it was told, and the new songs were good but not that groundbreaking.
      I just wish they would have taken more risks with it instead of just going for the sure thing, which is the exact copy of the movie that came out just a few years ago. Makes it seem like a crowd-pleasing money grab. Not exactly Tony material.

    • @joelmorel9332
      @joelmorel9332 6 лет назад +3

      When you compare Frozen to the other new musicals that were brought to the stage, it is kind of underwhelming. Sure, it's a nice musical, but the other ones stand out more in the sense that they have wonderful production design, or directing, or choreography. Frozen doesn't have a unique trait that they can cling onto. To be honest, it is somewhat mediocre in all of the categories, whereas when you see SpongeBob for instance, the innovative and creative production design catches your eye. Mean Girls has great stage direction by Tina Fey, and they modify the plot from the movie in such a way so that it is adequately fit for the stage. For the Band's Visit, seeing as that is the only musical that isn't backed by a heavy fanbase, it makes it the underdog, and the crowd favorite. Frozen seemed like it was just there because it was one of Disney's most popular musicals, and they wanted to turn it into a big money-maker. No offense, but there wasn't anything that jumped out at me creatively with Frozen. With Aladdin, it was basically a copy of the movie, but at least they had great choreography and James Monroe Iglehart.

      @miriamvharn 6 лет назад +5

      Same, the way he reinvented Once on this Island is amazing and so incredibly thoughtful, and he pulled together a great cast. He totally deserves it (just like he did for DWSA), but I'm worried the award committee won't honor his connection to the show and all the effort he put into it to every single detail to make it a meaningful, relevant theatre experience.

    • @slytheringirl1327
      @slytheringirl1327 6 лет назад +5

      Miriam Van Harn I agree, his Tony is overdue. He definitely deserved the win for DWSA, but since Tony voters normally go for the bigger productions he lost to Hamilton. Not that Hamilton is bad I love Hamilton but Michael Arden puts so much heart into every detail of every show he does and it shows on stage, I really hope they recognize that this year.

  • @michaelduffy6358

    I’m terrified because Mean Girls is going to get robbed. I think It should definitely win best book, and hopefully Grey Henson will too. Taylor Louderman is honestly outstanding, and the tony award is not rewarded for the character itself (most times people win awards because of who they play and not their actual performance). It’s rewarded to the best portrayal of a character, and I think out of most the nominees, Regina was the most out of character for Taylor, and she is so interesting and believable as the mean girl. Also I think the Bands Visit has a beautiful score, but It should not win best musical. A musical has to be moving and engaging, and honestly at times bands visit wasn’t. I think It should go to either spongebob or mean girls, and compared to the plot of spongebob, Mean Girls reigns. And just because Mean Girls is a modern musical, doesn’t mean It should be taken any less seriously (which is a shame because it is). I’ve heard someone say to me “Wow Broadway has a lot of trashy shows this season,” referring to Mean Girls and sponge bob, which is so frustrating. Just because a musical doesn’t have a name like Soundheim or Rogers and Hammerstein attached to It, does not make It inferior to others. (And like I said, I think that mean girls and spongebob are some of the best musicals on broadway rn). And the best part is, out of the four best musical nominees, Mean Girls is the most popular one that I have heard teenagers my age talking about. Just like DEH and Hamilton, Mean Girls resonates with teenagers and shares a special bond with them that other musicals just don’t have. It’s the most popular and it’s message is a message that everyone can take in. Anyways, that’s my opinion, don’t hate on me for It, and whatever happens and whoever wins, obviously they won for a reason and they are all talented in their own ways. Thank You

    • @jaellelaguerre9102
      @jaellelaguerre9102 6 лет назад +11

      Michael Duffy it's book is not that compelling. It's liked because we all like Tina Fey. It's a great musical but shouldn't just win based off of popularity alone like DEH.

    sure, mean girls is a good show. it's fun and has a pleasant message and is a very well-known story. i still think that it isn't as strong as the other musicals this year. i think band's visit and spongebob are going to sweep the musical categories as far as best musical noms are concerned. i think that ashley park's performance and possibly grey henson's performance will be highly considered for their categories, but i'm not sold that they'll win. spongebob has more heart in a surprisingly less cheesy manner, and band's visit is stunning and emotional in so many ways. mean girls might get snubbed, but i think there are definitely valid reasons.

    Honestly, Frozen is such an amazing and beautiful adaptation from the movie to stage and it’s so insane how crazy I am about it and how it’s so unappreciated. I saw The Bands Visit and while the music was mesmerizing, the story was just not entertaining and majorly failed. For me, Frozen is a high contender to win Best Musical, Mean Girls for Best Book, AND HONESTLY, Taylor Lauderman for Best Actress in a Musical because what she has done with Regina is so fresh and new. It’s completely different from Rachel McAdams and her voice is so entransive, Ethan Slater for Best Actor in a Musical, Once On This Island for Best Revival of a Musical, Angels In America for Best Revival of a Play, Harry Potter for Best Play. That’s all my predictions for the moment.

      Unfortunately yes. Grey, Ashley, and Barrett were the best things that came out of the show. The orchestration was, at best, meh and the lyrics were trite and unprovoking. Nothing new was brought to the table and the most iconic characters like Cady and Regina feel very short. Cady was a naive schoolgirl who acted too innocent for the world, almost like a clueless Disney Princess. Regina acted like a ditsy valley girl brat when she's actually very smart and manipulative and has no problem showing it. The show is a real disappointment. You'd think it would be better from the way it's been advertised but nope.

      Spongebob was too immature to pull off a Hamilton. Same with the Oscars, a level of politics or mature themes helps a musical greatly.

      +Aidan Lam Spongebob is great visually and the cast is excellent, but the music was uneven at best. The only good song was performed at the Tonys, and its plot is a snooze. This year, Tony voters made the right choice.

      Frozen never stood a chance, Let it Go was always going to be the Act 1 closure but unfortunately that meant the first act was long and drawn out covering only about 1/3 of the movie. Then suddenly you are in the second act and you are racing from scene to scene, the only song worth it's weight is Monster ( which I love ) and they even changed fixer upper which I just.. I can't even with the way they re-did it and you cover 2/3's of the movie in a relatively short space. It's badly paced, the second act is really weak, I mean really weak song wise and there is no development, nothing new discovered. Although I do think Caissie at least deserved a nomination because her performances in Let it Go and Monster are just amazing!

    I get the feeling that Spongebob (which COMPLETELY deserves best musical) will be robbed by the Band's Visit (which is in no way best musical material, especially when you compare it to the other nominees). Call me cynical, but I'm fairly certain that the people deciding who wins are far too pretentious to let a cartoon adaptation win anything, despite being one of the best shows out there.

    SpongeBob has got to win best score. Let me remind you that a bunch of different music artists written the music like David Bowie, John Legend, Panic! At the Disco etc. Sorry Bands Visit, SpongeBob is going to win.

    • @ayoubaswaray1856
      @ayoubaswaray1856 6 лет назад +1

      No way. They have all those musicals artist but the score isn't cohesive in the least. Since so many artist put their foot into this score they're is no fluid connect with the music. It's like patching together a human body with all good parts, but parts that don't fit together. It may sound like a good idea, but the end result is an uneven mess. Not to mention nothing new was brought to the table, as opposed to The Band's Visit which sewed middle eastern music into it's score and brought forth something that's never been presented to a Broadway stage before.

      Have to agree with the above comment by Ayouba. Living in Ireland I rely heavily on the cast albums as I can't fly into New York to see the shows when I want to. I had heard a few of the songs from SB ( hero is our middle name and bikini bottom day and simple sponge ) and I was very excited when the album was released but it is the most disjointed album I have ever heard. Pop, Country techno, rap ( bad rap ), gospel.. there isn't a genre that isn't covered in this album and it just doesn't mesh. Ethan Slater I suspect will probably win best actor but in terms of score The Band's Visit is beautiful, new and tells a full and complete story even if you haven't seen the stage show.

    Surprised we didn’t hear Casie Nicolas name mentioned in the choreography category. Contemporary choreo is STILL choreo! Also I do think Taylor louderman is gonna get robbed. Best voice I’ve heard on broadway with season. Not a big fan of the bands visit!

    Broadway is so white it’s sad that a show like Once in this island with preformances Like Hailey’s and all the cast don’t get very well appreciated I believe that same as color purple 90% of the cast of once on this island are more talented than half the mediocre people in half these other shows because it’s REAL acting musical theatre people are known to be horrible actors but they did something with that show and I am saying this as an artist whose seen all the nominated shows

      gal kislev Please DONT waste your time hitting me with facts from ONE year of the tonys when the awards have been around for over 50 years

    • @galkislev5925
      @galkislev5925 6 лет назад +2

      Kevin Rodgers but broadway today and broadway of the 60s are not the same, And I think 2016 Tonys is not an axiom about broadway but a great example for modern theater.
      The best musical of the year will probably be The Band’s Visit, and you can’t call the book, score and most of the actors white. I don’t think you should ignore other productions from the last season.
      Don’t get me wrong, I love OOTI and I think it deserves a lot of love and appreciation, but you can’t call Broadway white only by looking at the attention OOTI gets.

    • @kevinrodgers1866
      @kevinrodgers1866 6 лет назад +1

      gal kislev BROADWAY is white because that is the majority of what you see on stage there is always going to be a white female ingenue and White leading man its a given

    • @galkislev5925
      @galkislev5925 6 лет назад +1

      Kevin Rodgers well let’s face the facts, there is a majority of white people. You can’t expect 70% of the actors in broadway to be black because it’s unrealistic. Broadway is one of the most culturally diverse industries.
      And again, I want to show you some facts before jumping into loosely based realizations. 4/10 of the nominees in the leading musicals acting categories are people of color. Just for comparison in this year Oscars 2/10 of the nominees in the leading acting categories were people of color.
