When I beat the mission to hear this song, two extra events were occurring in-game: 1. I reached legend of the west honor status 2. I was being chased by a posse. Definitely the most epic gaming moment I've had the fortune of experiencing.
Man, Red Dead Redemption really caught me. Great characters, great gameplay and involving story. The soundtrack is great too, it doesn't stay behind. This song was placed in the perfect moment during the game. Props to Rockstar for this awesome game.
Lyrics: And now I know the only compass that I need Is the one leads back to you And I know the only compass that I need Is the one leads back to you And the burning blisters on my feet will call To hold me as I'm close to fall Away from the home of your arms I stray Off the radar and into harm's way Now I know the only compass that I need Is the one that leads back to you Yea coffee wakes the hand again Coaxing letters from the pen But words just sit like empty scribbles Such empty caffeinated riddles Now I know the only compass that I need Is the one leads back to you Now I know the only compass that I need Is the one leads back to you
Dude, they put these songs in perfect parts in the game. I was amazed how well this song fit with that one mission(Won't tell which because of spoiler.)
@Spaceomatic Seriously. I heard Compass before from the Soundtrack and was just waiting to hear it in game. When I finished that one mission (no spoilers) and Compass started it was like hearing it for the first time. Racing through Tall Trees with this playing was such a great gaming experience for me.
I beat RDR yesterday and I loved it so much! I remembered that this song played after I completed that mission and it fits perfectly! The best part is that this song was played when I was riding through the forest with the sun shinning through the trees and it looked beautiful. This epic moment almost made me cry.
Just finished the game. The most meaningful mission to me was when John met a stranger who was supposed to be God, and He predicted where John would die. Best mission I ever done
By the time you hear this song you ARE John Marston. No other game made me feel that way. The first sentence in the lyrics says it all. This MY best moment in gaming history, IMO.
When I heard this and the other songs as I rode into Mexico I was just like "OMFG Rockstar delivers great music once again!" Rode around on my Stallion for ages listening to it :D
@dannycni The ending was hollow and unfulfilling, and that's exactly why it was so amazing. In that moment, as the "message" is delivered, what should be the penultimate retribution ends up being just another husband and brother laying dead. Murder does not fix anything, it only hurts the innocent. John tries so hard to teach his son why he abandoned his gang, and maybe now he will finally understand.
This game is amazing. Just amazing. It shows why to care about your family. Why to stay close with those you love. (This will spoil if you hadn't completed the game yet) John Marston decided to die cause he knew it wouldn't help to run. If he fled, they would just hunt him until he fled again etc... Damn i love this game and the soundtrack!
the shock from the strike would be enough to stop your heart or cause massive bruising or even organ damage, I've fired a .45 round with period correct grain amounts from my Peacemaker into modern ballistic vest, didnt penetrate, but made a big dent and wouldve left the wearer hospitalized
So I tinish this mission and with tears in my eyes I get on my horse and run as fast as I can through the forests to reunite with my family, the sun shinning through the cloudy sky, great song playing, when out of fucking nowhere a bear runs through the screen, trying to kill me I guess. Completely ruined the moment man.
thats true... he also died because he knew the government wouldnt stop harassing his family if he was still alive....like Dutch said "When I'm gone, they'll just find another monster....they have to, because they have to justify their wages"............John gave his life to protect his family, so that they may at long last, have a shot at a peaceful life, it was the ultimate act of selflessness, and in doing so, he achieved redemption on every level, legally, personally, and spiritually.
This game describes life perfectly... If you have done something bad you can try to redeem yourself from it... But Karma is a bitch and it will always strike back. John finally redeemed himself by sacrificing himself so that his family could get away and life on. Irony in this game is that Jack became a frontiersmen gunslinger... Good or Bad you decide as you play the game as him... But his father tried to protect him from that fate...
man, irst far away and then i messed up with this song, in two different ways. first i went the wrong way (in what was almost a nice trip) then i paused.....
John Marston, man that I could see as a positive role model in life, he did wrong in his life, got away from that life and tried to live happily but got dragged back to cleanse it but never loses his faith to his family. Damn why do the great ones die to crooked politics.
@jaden556 it´s really awesome, but for me, there was a lot of "Kojima" effect, you know, very long cutscenes, way too long, more than needed, but yeah... you do have a point, it´s still great.
@PatInferno So people who love games are instantly identified as nerds? I'm sick of stereotyping and generalizations. I know many gamers who don't fit into the stereotypical picture of what being a nerd is all about. Argh, ignorant people.
@Tammc09 Come now. 1st name Dutch. Van der Linde is DEFINITLY a dutch surname, and the guy wears an orange shirt. :P I think that's too much to be a coincidence.
@wwevstnavsecwvswcw, And plus, the game is pretty educational, and promotes interest in the history of the wild west (especially during the Mexican border war of the 1910's).
@PatInferno Yeah you're a nerd but its ok. You don't have to come on the internet like everyone else and try to be something you're not or deny what you are just to look cool in front of other posers
Literally I was thinking what to do now go to mexico go to blackwater go kill some outlaws and then this song came on and like @PatInferno said Literally I pushed my horse so hard to get to home I honestly, felt a desperation to get back to the Wife and child that I didn't have lol ...... I pushed that horse hard apples and pils lol its the best part of the game
When I beat the mission to hear this song, two extra events were occurring in-game:
1. I reached legend of the west honor status
2. I was being chased by a posse.
Definitely the most epic gaming moment I've had the fortune of experiencing.
Wuts a posse?
That's kinda funny, lol.
John: "Finally. I can see my family."
Bounty Hunters: "There he is!"
John: -_-
@@Dr_Aozenbounty hunters
@@kenyilopez3818 Thx g
POV: You just killed/captured your old homies and now are riding back to your family. God I relate so hard
Man, Red Dead Redemption really caught me. Great characters, great gameplay and involving story. The soundtrack is great too, it doesn't stay behind. This song was placed in the perfect moment during the game. Props to Rockstar for this awesome game.
There´s no doubt why Red Dead Redemption became game of the year, no other game is made with such passion and heart.
i was travelling to see my family under a heavy rain and a storm, with this song it was so awesome! love this game!
Lyrics:
And now I know the only compass that I need
Is the one leads back to you
And I know the only compass that I need
Is the one leads back to you
And the burning blisters on my feet will call
To hold me as I'm close to fall
Away from the home of your arms I stray
Off the radar and into harm's way
Now I know the only compass that I need
Is the one that leads back to you
Yea coffee wakes the hand again
Coaxing letters from the pen
But words just sit like empty scribbles
Such empty caffeinated riddles

We still here ☝️🖤
Dude, they put these songs in perfect parts in the game. I was amazed how well this song fit with that one mission(Won't tell which because of spoiler.)
i was singing along when the song came out. when i was done with the mission
i almost cried );
I think its awsome that in an epic game as Red Dead Redemption the bad guy was a reference to the netherlands :D
this has to be the song to top one of the greatest game moments ever , I didn't want to end that ride home , it fit the mood so well.
a masterpiece of a videogame. this should be made into a movie. and this game needs to be hailed a a acheivement in gaming history
One tip: DO NOT GET OFF YOUR HORSE! Did it the first time, because I killed a bear and the music stopped.
an amazing game i can remember running back home as fast as possible while this song plays truly amazing
How it feels to see that one homie after years apart.
@Spaceomatic Seriously. I heard Compass before from the Soundtrack and was just waiting to hear it in game. This game was the definition of Awesome and Epic. It has the best story line of any game aside final fantasy VII that i had ever known
after the mission ... in tall trees... on the way home ... this song PERFECT !
This game is 1 of the few that put man tears to my eyes
Just finished the game. The most meaningful mission to me was when John met a stranger who was supposed to be God, and He predicted where John would die. Best mission I ever done
That was Death not God
This gaming moment going back to my farm in-game was EPIC
Oh this brings me back
this was so cool... indeed perfect timing for this song in the game
This was probablly my favorite part in the game, tied with Marston's last stand. Felt like i was watching the end of a western.
By the time you hear this song you ARE John Marston. No other game made me feel that way. The first sentence in the lyrics says it all. This MY best moment in gaming history, IMO.
When I heard this and the other songs as I rode into Mexico I was just like "OMFG Rockstar delivers great music once again!"

agreed with patiferno, and jacktheripperjnr, it made the moment perfect and i wish i could experince it again
If there is to be a 3rd Red Dead
It must be like this
Epic protagonist
Bastard antagonist
Brilliant soundtrack
Emotional ending
unforgettable moment.
Was i the only one who fell so deep within the story of this game that cried at the very end?
Shoutout to Rockstar for making a fire song for a five second ride lol
@dannycni The ending was hollow and unfulfilling, and that's exactly why it was so amazing. In that moment, as the "message" is delivered, what should be the penultimate retribution ends up being just another husband and brother laying dead.
Murder does not fix anything, it only hurts the innocent. John tries so hard to teach his son why he abandoned his gang, and maybe now he will finally understand.
This violin shit is so fucking melancholic. No kidding.
I remember when this started playing I was kinda like holy shit is that music...?
dude running with my black american horse after that mission with that music so good buddy
PatInferno : I just felt the same.... :-( lots of emotions in this amazing game
This game is amazing. Just amazing. It shows why to care about your family. Why to stay close with those you love.

God no. I shed a tear. Loved John, I got wayyyyy too immersed within the story line.
...is the one, that leads back to you...
i held a so the bears couldn't get me but i could listen to the song
Rest In Peace John Marston 1911 ._._._.Rockstar Rockzz!
that is such a good idea, i refuse for it to not happen
i can wait for gta 5
it let's you know that your not just playing a game full of blood an killing cows and other animals. it's the best game story i'v ever played
So I tinish this mission and with tears in my eyes I get on my horse and run as fast as I can through the forests to reunite with my family, the sun shinning through the cloudy sky, great song playing, when out of fucking nowhere a bear runs through the screen, trying to kill me I guess.

Unless he Enlisted into the war.....but It's funny how after him you got people like John Dilenger coming around.
John is avenged, but he is still missed. Damn that Ross. May he burn in hell.
I did this mission yesterday awesome
It would be funny if you have John and Cole Phelps in a Tony's club having few drinks.
@sgtduh The stranger side-mission is technically a story mission. It was more than enough.
@MamoeTalamaivao This damn game made me tear up a few times. So epic, its hard to explain. Rockstar did a freakin amazing job on this game.
this is the best game that i played, of course then of assassins creed
This game describes life perfectly... If you have done something bad you can try to redeem yourself from it... But Karma is a bitch and it will always strike back. red dead redemption is the best game ever.and the ending is just sad. i am gona restart the game now ;)
I was not at all expecting this song, and same with the one when u get in Mexico. I just remember being killed by a bear.... fml -_-
Great song, great game
great song,great game,RDR FOREVER!!
Jack dislikes this because the song remembers him his fasther's death... John, 4 ever in our hearts
that's exactly what happened to me, I was pissed lol
man, irst far away and then i messed up with this song, in two different ways.
first i went the wrong way (in what was almost a nice trip)
then i paused.....
I had a bear lunge at me while this song was playing, but I shot it between the eyes with a buffalo rifle. I wasn't going to have this moment ruined!
@PatInferno GTA is anything but a mindless game. GTA IV had a very deep storyline, you should give it more of a chance.
@JacktheRipperJnr of course, it's from Rockstar!
@sgtjuanka Its a game bro.. chill no need to be realistic.. just use your imagination =D
Casi lloré jaja justo voy en esta parte y busqué la canción altiro
John Marston, man that I could see as a positive role model in life, he did wrong in his life, got away from that life and tried to live happily but got dragged back to cleanse it but never loses his faith to his family. Damn why do the great ones die to crooked politics.
@hardtek101 amen to that, Red Dead Redemption is fucking Art, period.
@jaden556 it´s really awesome, but for me, there was a lot of "Kojima" effect, you know, very long cutscenes, way too long, more than needed, but yeah... you do have a point, it´s still great.
best game ever made
typically that shit only happens in tall trees... haha
@BanditOfBandwidth It wasn't a reference to the Netherlands. Dutch is a common nickname.
@PatInferno so true, i was surprised at myself and how much I was engrossed in the storyline!
@Spaceomatic AFTER YOU KILL THE ONE WHO'S NAME STARTS WITH THE LETTER D AND ENDS WITH H
@PatInferno So people who love games are instantly identified as nerds? I'm sick of stereotyping and generalizations. I know many gamers who don't fit into the stereotypical picture of what being a nerd is all about. Argh, ignorant people.
Damn sad song
@Tammc09 Come now. 1st name Dutch. Van der Linde is DEFINITLY a dutch surname, and the guy wears an orange shirt. :P
I think that's too much to be a coincidence.
@TIEStudios GTA has a plot?
@Vaalfimir and has such an addicting feature entangled with a great plot.
and then he told Fordham to dislike it too
ik heb het gister rdr1 uitgespeeld
@Spaceomatic Yea, and far away.. and the song a few missions after this.. not saying the name due to spoiler
Je kiff cette musique!!!
@BabiMakKauGile well he was 16 at 1911.... so hormones ?? 1914 already 19.. i bet we would also change during that time ?
@wwevstnavsecwvswcw,
And plus, the game is pretty educational, and promotes interest in the history of the wild west (especially during the Mexican border war of the 1910's).
Amazing game!
I love it also
@PatInferno you just describe my own experience of the game :)
@wabalaba3000 This is, I believe, the redemption the title speaks to.
I doubt their ammo would dent a modern vest.
Good music !!!!!!!!
@PatInferno Yeah you're a nerd but its ok. You don't have to come on the internet like everyone else and try to be something you're not or deny what you are just to look cool in front of other posers
@sgtduh no part should be taken place during the depression era
Literally I was thinking what to do now go to mexico go to blackwater go kill some outlaws and then this song came on and like @PatInferno said Literally I pushed my horse so hard to get to home I honestly, felt a desperation to get back to the Wife and child that I didn't have lol ...... I pushed that horse hard apples and pils lol its the best part of the game
@Clidefrog123 Yeah. I loved this moment.
This plays right after dutch dies and you ride back to the ranch right?
Holy spoiler fest without warnings folks. Keep in mind this song plays twice in the game!
@PatInferno You don't need to be a nerd to have emotions, jesus...
@winkoman3 me too :) even tho u wernt talking to me X)
I thought it was Dave Matthews
