Web based word processors are *not* an alternative for what word is good for. Not even the cloud based word for cloud.

@@kattaplez721 A Web-based word-processor requires online connectivity. The recent breakdown of “the internet” shows that this is not always guaranteed. So if your ISP has issues there is no way you can use the app.
A Web based word processor usually requires some kind of subscription for the cloud services. So you will pay for something that is not needed if it was not designed to require just this, a subscription.
Web based word processors run inside a browser on some kind of javascript based UI. In comparison to a native implementation on a fat client , this is much slower and less reactive, regardless of the underlying operating system.
Storing documents in the cloud to be accessible from multiple devices does not require a web based application the operating systems file systems will provide that capability.
So you will have a solution for a problem you do not have, but a forced subscription on the price of much slower User Interface.

@@kattaplez721 somehow my reply got lost….
1.) Cloud requires an internet connection. From the recent events this is not always given.
2.) in most cases these word processors require a subscription instead of a one-time fee.
3.) web based word processors are usually written in some kind of scripting language, which degrades performance and usability in comparison to a fat client.
4.) web based word processors have issues accessing local resources, like images, fonts and more.
5.) multi user access to files does not require a web based application, but an os filesystem that can mount cloud storage. All os do that
So a web based app intentionally creates issues to sell subscriptions or cloud storage.
