In the pleasure island tour, Dave actually mentioned that Norman the Film was directed pre-war by someone else named Joel. I know he was alluding to Real Life Joel, but what if Pre-War Joel, and in game Joel are the same guy, and his lifelong goal is to finish Norman the Film?!!?
Bethesda should really contact you to help on fallout 5 settlements! Of course you would have to tone it down because my x box would catch on fire if there was this much in one settlement
Don't believe that's a problem, since Bethesda will integrate the settlement into the final render of the game. Settlements added by players don't undergo this process.
I love the two completely opposite ends of players shown here. Speed runners: Beats game in sub 40 minute times. Dave: Spends 15 hours on one settlement.
yer im like General Dave litrally weeks on one settlement, i want it to be perfect. i also am aiming to have saves for each faction ending with fully kitted out settlements. it will be a long arguas process but i wanna do it so bad.
@@loptseldr cool. I literally just spent over 10+ hours on my home plate for my stealth character 😂😂😂😂 man settlement building is the best thing Beth did
Slight correction here, he said he spent 15 hours SCRAPPING things he had already made, from his initial build and redoing things in this build that he didn't like or decided to change during the build process. He said in one of the first two videos that it took 120 hours roughly, for this version of the build.
I'd be up for it, in writing/story. I've never modded before, but have tons of ideas for towns/unique locations/quests. I've been filling notebooks with ideas since New Vegas, when I first heard of modding, in case I ever started modding. I have three strong ideas with factions and central plots, all with different feels, but they're not complete, like one idea I can think of 30-40 good locations for, but one has maybe 15-20.
Just imagine Fallout: Detroit. The city is under martial law by a rogue chapter of the Brotherhood of Steel. You start in a BOS-controlled prison, a jailbreak ensues, leaving you in the Motor City Wasteland. Will you help the Brotherhood accomplish its goals or do you help the wastelanders rise up against their tyranny? Being in Detroit, there's tons of cars, Motown, and Robocop references. Edit: Featuring "Newly-Annexed Canada!!"
Let me throw out some locations for examples. A Red Rocket that uses the radiation sprayers from Nuka World in a booby-trapped car wash. A semi-addictive Michigan-based soda pop (Chuggo), and its super fans (the Chuggalos) who vandalized Nuka-Cola property before the War. A hotel/casino populated with ghouls for that classic hotel-full-of-zombies feel. The offices of Hot Rodder Magazine, with new magazines as well. The town of Hell, Michigan (it is a real town) where a brutal raider reigns. And Motown, the last free city not under the control of the Brotherhood, run by Tommy Jupiter, a singing ghoul. This barely scratches the surface of one of the three worlds. I try to go for funny and wacky concepts, classic ties to other Fallout games and the Fallout world (i.e. Chryslus factories, Hot Rodder Magazine), and some dark and twisted ideas too. Any modders/world-builders that want a serious look, let me know.
JesusCheeseburger you have some good ideas man you should attempt to write an actual script for quests with multiple endings and give it a go you've clearly already put thought into it who knows you could even become a well known modder
If you guys are wondering how a build of this size comes together, well, the answer is you basically treat it like traditional game design! Here's my final design document for Sanctuary Hills if you want to peek under the hood: imgur.com/a/FR9EA
In this final episode of my tour of the Sanctuary Hills - the new capital of the Commonwealth - we're going to see how the defenses hold up against a massive attack. Before that though we're going going to find out what dark secrets General Dave still has hidden that prop up this new apocalyptic suburbia!
Evilviking13, the cellar is your biggest mistake. It shouldn't be a torture chamber, it should be a reeducation center. The key to maintaining a dictatorship is to not create Martyrs. Make sure they go to the grave agreeing with General Dave's policies.
I love how much Joel cringes with each of these tours, they are so entertaining that I think you make builds like this just to see what makes him cringe the most as a settlement builder. Also I can't wait to see where General Dave goes next!
Hey General Dave. You should try that Murkwater trench warfare idea at Dalton Farm. It has a surprising amount of water and could be an amphibious assault or landing ground for troops. The terrain is pretty jacked-up already and might be perfect for a trench system. You could have an artillery position on a ship. And another on the hill where that ruined shack sits, overlooking the trenches.
And speaking of warships, you should do a Euron Greyjoy-inspired pirate ship using the vanilla tugboat and USO raider tarps as sails. I was going to, but couldn't get the tugboat to place. Also, a floating weapons platform with a control center operated by those robobrain workers you see working terminals around the Mechanist's Lair.
Holy shit dude, "good job" does not even come remotely close to the props that you deserve for this. What an absolute masterpiece! Keep doing what you're doing mate, this was insane.
General Dave is here to bring "Order and safety". Yep I consider order and safety cameras everywhere and a completely loyal Royal guard ruled by a sorta peranode leader that for some reason has a dicionary size of blackmail and a dungon under his home but you do what you got to do to keep "Law and order" in the Commonwelth.
I can just picture an awesome quest where you uncover Dave's darkest secrets and expose him as the tyrent he has become. Probably given to you by mayor Piper
I can just Imagine General Dave telling the people in the shanty town "You must leave the premises at once" and then they reply "we'll keep your pumps working" so dave is like "Fine"
*What I'd hope to see for your next build is a settlement for those who doesn't pass the requirements for your big settlements. The lore can go like, you built that settlement because you had some change of heart after that defense in the sanctuary hills against the brotherhood(the fight shown here, somewhat became part of the lore. xD). They fought hard for you even though you haven't let them in, in sanctuary. They fought for you without basically getting anything from you. A lot of them died helping the minutemen defend the sanctuary where they weren't even allowed to go in. And that somewhat hit you. They proved to you that they changed their ways, and they want to earn your trust. So you built a settlement where they can prove their loyalty to you, a settlement that plays a big role for your empire but manned by those who doesn't qualify but wants to be part of your minutemen. After the fight, they somehow soften general dave's heart a bit after the betrayal you got from your first ranger, but you're still not willing to trust anyone just yet, so you built that settlement to test them, and a somewhat, a thank you to them for their sacrifices(but of course, they don't know that since they had to see you as a though guy, all they know is it's a test for them). What kind of settlement is up to. But I really hope you'd make a settlement based on this idea. xD*
Your imagination is hilarious and inspiring, fair play, you must have the patience of a saint to spend all those hours building believable settlements. Bathesda should hire you to consult lore for fallout 5
He did one in Far Harbor. There was a tour but without Joel. I think it was at Longfellows Cabin. There was going to be one at Echo Lake Lumber but he was trying to creation kit the whole thing and something broke so no idea if he's going to go back to it at some point or not.
With that, you deserve a break. I won't be expecting new Fallout content for like a month. Amazing job and I'll be rewatching the whole tour in 1 go. With the largest showing of The Minutemens power, I'm hoping that we get another Joel settlement, which I think has been hinted at for a while as being at Nordhaggen Beach.
4:10 I'm disappointed. There's no 'General Dave' banner overlooking the shanty town! How will they know who will never stop fighting, who is restoring hope?
I would really like to see all your settlements at night. Just a quick tour through all of them to get a feel for the "nightlife". And I bet many of them would look really awesome. Thanks for the builds, I enjoy them alot.
so I'm imagining that kids that live with their parent's in the shanties they like, work all day doing hard work, scraping, scavenging, fishing and the like, and then finally they save up enough caps to spend a day in Sanctuary like its Disney land lol
First of all congrats on hitting 100,000 subscribers. Second of all my favorite part of this hole build is the shanty town. It reminds me of any city that would look real nice but past that they would have slums. This also reminds me of Game of thrones when the peasants built a town outside the wall of Kings Landing until Tyrion burnt it down to protect the city agents Stanis.
There needs to be a multiplayer server mod that you host were people live in the commonwealth under general Dave, and some struggle, some join the minutemen, and some try to cross them, legend has it anyone who has tried it... disappeared... permanently.
RangerDave, so . . . the shanty town has one of the more important jobs in the city. Think of your politicians as the tanks in a standard rpg and think of your mechanics, farmers, janitors, and other low end guys as the healers. The tanks do the heavy lifting while the healers keep things working.
I’ve watched the majority of these builds and this is just awesome. General Dave is a force to reckon with and would be a sweet character to meet. It would be really sweet to visit other worlds in Fallout and see other settlements. Great job!!
The toilet facilities in shanty town brought back memories from my childhood. I'm old enough to remember the covered enameled bucket in my parent's bedroom and the outhouse out back.
A neat little thing I've done on the river which you almost did was place the windmill generators so the propellers touch the water. The river moves slow enough to make the propellers look like a water turbine
This video, along with all Dave's settlement videos, display a major part of why Fallout 4 is my favorite game of all time. Seriously, best RPG ever, best GAME ever IMO. That battle at the end was so cinematic, it felt like an actual sequence in the game's story.
If this were like most settlements, there would be a terminal controling the turrets, right? It makes sense to have one, in case of a malfunction, that way you can shut them down... But there is the chance someone could stealth boy in and hack the terminal and use the "turret override program" from the "Total Hack Control Turrets" magazine and set the turrets to shoot everyone... then your deffence would kinda crumble from the inside, combine that with a huge wave of raiders/super mutants and you got yourself a problem... Do you have a solution to this problem, generel?
I don't always think someone can do a better job than me, but damn it Dave you take it well beyond that. I wonder if General Dave would be interested in a partnership with me and my custom faction, we would certainly assist Dave in the "liberation and improvement" of the Boston commonwealth, and perhaps ever further along the coast.
I started playing Fallout 4 for the first time in December 2020. I had a level 50 character when I started watching Ranger Dave's settlement build vids. They gave me a whole new perspective on the game. So I abandoned my character and started a new playthrough with the idea of adding a role play aspect. My new character is Agent 47. He tried to leave agency and all the killing behind him by entering the witness protection program. That's why he was stuck in this boring suburban nightmare when the bombs dropped. Now I just need to get inside of the head of Agent 47 so I can rebuild a Commonwealth compatible with his world view. I can imagine running Hitman or Assassins' Creed missions in Ranger Dave's settlements. No joke, Evil Viking should get a job at a game company.
in my head cannon general dave is the guy from the republic of dave from fallout 3 after the lone wanderer kicked him out of his city he traveled to the commonwealth and took over
You need to make an airfield and make windmills the engines of the planes! Like make Dave Air and have minutemen cargo planes and fighter jets and vertibirds!
Wondering if there is a facility for redemption for people on the naughty list. Like if someone who failed the background checks to earn their way into a minuteman settlement. I guess like a Roman Auxilia or worker equivalent?
Fuck man, compare this to the average Michigan Suburb. I don't know which place I'd rather live in. I wish there were put together, semi-independent towns like this just, spread out across America like jacks. They'd get people living in em. Nice job, High Admiral General Ranger Dave.
Dave I don't know if you're crazier than Joel anymore but considering all the good you have I can understand you killing some traitors I probably would too
Tbh, his settlements show how lacking base game-building options are. Just throw in some progression for building objects, and you got yourself an improved settlement system.
Make one of those huge armored trains for general dave for the many train tracks or build a settlement in a skyscraper the brotherhood is rebuilding in Also congrats on 100k hope my ideas are a little bit helpful in future builds
I only saw one lore flaw and the rest is just amazingly immersive, I feel like the only thing we want to see added is more settlers and quests in your settlements. Anyway the flaw is that doesn't Joel normally do the interrogation for you?
my slums (built with sim settlements. the inner city is also made with it) are a lot richer than my inner city, the slums are built similarly to yours, except my slums are divided into two sections: the slums, (when exiting sanctuary, turn right.) are where the undesirables live. druggies, ex-raider bosses, and old sailors from far harbor. coming out of sanctuary, to the left, lies the favorables. working class and rich folk live there. a few shops with some nice homes. 1 rug revelry, 1 slum lord home #1, 1 skyfall home, 1 hideout, and 2 wasteland loungers among 10 other homes make up the left section. the inners (people in the city) constructed a entrance with multiple turrets for the favorables. however, the gate is to keep them out due to the favorables having more wealth and being more prosperous than them. they also made some NCR scouts watch over the favorables. the inners resent the favorables, making them pay tolls to enter the city, thus a deep feud between the mayor of the slums, Henry Garcia, and the mayor of sanctuary, Tim Smith, exists.this has led to the slums creating their own militia, (the Hollyhock rangers) to gaurd them due to multiple paranoid citizens firing down on them. the inners are a very paranoid people. there are 32 homes in their grasp. most of the citizens there are poor, with the few who aren't being manipulators who steal from the inners unknowingly. the inners have no idea that their taxes are not being used to fund the general and instead are making the uppers richer. there have been 3 skirmishes between the favorables and the inners. the most popular being the battle of mark's gate. the other are: the drowning, named after when the inners sunk multiple houses and drowned children, and the bloody day, when the inners shot down upon the favorables for the first time, killing 3 people.
What settlement do you guys want to see him do next? These are the remaining settlements he hasn't done. 1. Abernathy farm 2. Boston Airport 3. Bunker Hill 4. Covenant 5. Egret Tours Marina 6. Finch Farm 7. Graygarden 8. Hangman's Alley 9. Home Plate 10. Jamaica Plain 11. Murkwater Construction Site 12. Nordhagen Beach 13. Oberland Station 14. Outpost Zimonja 15. Starlight Drive-In 16. Warwick Homestead
EvilViking13, I appreciate your work. I'm curious to know how you plan the architecture / engineering of the buildings in the settlements you present in the videos. Is it a prior planning or is it done as it is built? In someone video you explain the technique of creation?
So I had a question about the background checks and gunners. He says that gunners and former gunners aren’t allowed but he lets mecready in. Why is mecready allowed in but not other gunners?
Theory: Joel was the only other person to survive Vault 111.
Vincent D'Andrea dun dun dun nnmm! !

Well, it would explain why he has an obsession with Norman and the Nebula from Hell.
And why there is an empty cryo cell near General Daves cryo cell.

I'm going to do this for my Spectacle Island City build...
Interesting to see your process. Thanks.

You should build a settlement or possibly a shanty town for all the people who disnt pass the background check
I think you should try to add some farming area for the shanty town just outside the walls

Absolutely loved this build.
THANK GOD, i just got done with part 3 and was so bummed about having to wait, great timing :)
I really loved this build. Definitely one of the best settlements I have seen on here. Also love the intro music.
Thanks for this tour dave i really appreciate all the time and effort you put into this beauty have a great day! :)

Edit: Wooooooow that ending was dark lmao...
This was such an awesome series. So much dedication and hard work went into this and it shows. Thanks for sharing with us!
When Dave revealed the cellar, and said he had a purge, I swear to Christ he reminded me of the Soviet Union. General Dave = Joseph Stalin confirmed.
in my head cannon general dave is the guy from the republic of dave from fallout 3 after the lone wanderer kicked him out of his city he traveled to the commonwealth and took over
"Accored neutral territory" lol is that a dresden files reference?
Maccready was a former gunner y was he let in?
When gen. Dave says you're in YOU ARE IN.
We traveled together for a good chunk of the main campaign so he's pretty high in the Minutemen ranks these days
lol
Jacob Bahre, Clint for MacCready seems like a fair trade does it not?
You need to make an airfield and make windmills the engines of the planes! Like make Dave Air and have minutemen cargo planes and fighter jets and vertibirds!
General Dave - The American Caesar
Sacrifices is required for order and safety
Wondering if there is a facility for redemption for people on the naughty list. Like if someone who failed the background checks to earn their way into a minuteman settlement. I guess like a Roman Auxilia or worker equivalent?
Wow. You did so much.
Ive built about as much there as you, minus all the secret places.
Great work! Can't wait for your next build.
This is like the third time i see all of these videos and they are still funny.
Amazing as always. All 4 parts. Please dont stop. Rebuild ALL settlements again lol ;)
You know this reminds me a lot of vault city
Accorded Neutral Territory? Me thinks some one likes the Dresden Files as well.
Fuck man, compare this to the average Michigan Suburb. I don't know which place I'd rather live in. I wish there were put together, semi-independent towns like this just, spread out across America like jacks. They'd get people living in em. Nice job, High Admiral General Ranger Dave.
Dave I don't know if you're crazier than Joel anymore but considering all the good you have I can understand you killing some traitors I probably would too
Absolutely love these videos! Keep up the good work, not just on Fallout, but other games too!
General Dave: "I'm watching you Sanctuary... Always watching..."
Abernathy farm in my mind would be a great place for general Dave next settlement
Part FOUR!? i mean wtf!!!! awesome stuff Dave!
You never explained the old world car! But other wise I loved every episode!
Tbh, his settlements show how lacking base game-building options are. Just throw in some progression for building objects, and you got yourself an improved settlement system.
it's still funny how the super mutants just teleport right behind you without having to climb the walls or fences.
Well, since you brought it up, I wouldn't mind watching Dave chop some real life wood with that evil viking beard of his.
Make one of those huge armored trains for general dave for the many train tracks or build a settlement in a skyscraper the brotherhood is rebuilding in
Also congrats on 100k
hope my ideas are a little bit helpful in future builds
This has become more of a Netflix Drama serie. (The Basement)
Dave is the Bob Ross of Fallout 4.
You should make Hangmans Alley into a stopping-point for traders with a small inn. Or maybe some kind of minutemen base inside of downtown boston
Why do I feel like this is almost a dystopia like Bioshock or something lol
Kingsport Lighthouse actually had a Bioshock reference with the red banner...
I like that you killed the traitorous minutemen like knight of the long knives when Hitler killed the members of the SA.
I only saw one lore flaw and the rest is just amazingly immersive, I feel like the only thing we want to see added is more settlers and quests in your settlements. Anyway the flaw is that doesn't Joel normally do the interrogation for you?
Very, very cool. Too bad about the random enemies spawning inside the settlement.
my slums (built with sim settlements. the inner city is also made with it) are a lot richer than my inner city, the slums are built similarly to yours, except my slums are divided into two sections: the slums, (when exiting sanctuary, turn right.) are where the undesirables live. druggies, ex-raider bosses, and old sailors from far harbor.
coming out of sanctuary, to the left, lies the favorables. working class and rich folk live there. a few shops with some nice homes.
1. Abernathy farm
2. Boston Airport
3. Bunker Hill
4. Covenant
5. Egret Tours Marina
6. Finch Farm
7. Graygarden
8. Hangman's Alley
9. Home Plate
10. Jamaica Plain
11. Murkwater Construction Site
12. Nordhagen Beach
13. Oberland Station
14. Outpost Zimonja
15. Starlight Drive-In
16. Warwick Homestead
1. Mad Max-style truck stop at Nuka-World
2. Rebuild of Pleasure Island into a naval base/ship construction yard
3. Naval assault/trench warfare at Dalton Farm
Hangman's alley, really interested to see what he'd do with it
Boston Airport, renamed the Minutemen Aerodrome, home to the Minutemen's fledgling air force (you can mod in working drones and vertibirds)
He reminds me of the govener from the walking dead nice on the outside then they have a horrible little tourtur room
God i would play any game if I heard you did level design for it regardless what kind of game it is
EvilViking13,
I appreciate your work. I'm curious to know how you plan the architecture / engineering of the buildings in the settlements you present in the videos. Is it a prior planning or is it done as it is built? In someone video you explain the technique of creation?
the Minutemen and there General can call on the shroud for help when needed.
You need to create some lore on what happened to the Railroad after the Legion's defeat.
I saw all 4 episodes, now I understand the meaning of Republic of (General) Dave :)
So amazing
Who think general Dave should have a small "abandoned" minutemen outpost as a "small" home for his in game needs?
General dave is like stallin
lol ur saying communist scum but ur username is soviet wanderer
It's only a matter of time 'till he starts using the people in the slum for humorous rounds of skeet shooting like in a Mel Brooks movie.
So I had a question about the background checks and gunners. He says that gunners and former gunners aren’t allowed but he lets mecready in. Why is mecready allowed in but not other gunners?
