The pikmin's dumb as bricks AI, I've had little to no issue controlling my pikmin in 2 but 3 just seems to give me consistent issues, especially when when trying to carry something with more than the minimum amount, I think its a combination between the pikmin move the fastest when carrying stuff in 3, and pikmin not stopping to let more pikmin to start carrying like in the first two games, even in one, the pikmin are supposed to be a bit unreliable but that's intentional and doesn't really get in the way for me compared to how they act in 3. Oh yeah, forgot to mention that I cant maneuver my squad using swarming because it's not in the game! The game feels like everything but the gameplay was made to appeal to people who have ethier never heard of pikmin or have only been exposed to the cuteness of them. I'm at a point where I have so many complaints that I'm forgetting some of them so I'll wrap it up here i've got WAY to many little and big issues with pikmin 3 that they just pile up to a game that I hate (mostly on the conceptual level) and that I can't call a great game in my eyes, which is a sad because pikmin 1 is in my top ten games of all time list, and Pikmin 2's on the top of that list. One last note; Miyamoto was the director of pikmin 1 and 3 and two other guys who I can't remember there japanese names were the directors of Pikmin 2, and one of them had this to say about it: "I think one of the biggest strengths of Pikmin 2 is that we removed the time limit from the game." This quote doesn't relate to what issues I was talking about, but it shows how different these two guys thought from Miyamoto about Pikmin The edit zone: -------------------- This is legitimately how I feel about pikmin 3 Also here's a rough timeline of events showing my history of playing the pikmin games. Sometime: obtained pikmin 3,couldn't figure out where to go after getting Brittany, sat on the shelf. A bit later: obtained Pikmin 2 wii from the wiiu eshop, had a blast, collected every treasure. Probably soon after: picked up Pikmin 3, 100%ed it of course, 2020: p3DX gets announced I play the demo too much while complaining about the new *,more impractical* controls, I buy p3DX and gave pikmin 3 a critical second look. I had gripes, and tons of 'em. September 2021: I bought Pikmin wii on the wiiu eshop and had tons of fun! 20?? I probably get board one day and decide to emulate hey pikmin. This completely slipped my mind before editing. The reason why pikmin 3 is so easy is because Shiggymoto stated it was made with "no-death runs in mind." If you ever wanted to see someone else who has similar opinions about the pikmin series I recommend lambhoot's videos on the pikmin series. And no before you hopefully come back from those great videos, pikmin three doesn't strees me. At least not in that way.
@@Gulliblepikmin Pretty valid complaints here, yeah. I would say that although I don't quite understand the issues with the enemy sound design or the Pikmin AI since neither has been an issue to me whatsoever, your experiences are your own. I would say Pikmin 3 does suffer from a lack of greater incentive to break its narrative and find more fruit, especially since most fruits are simply out in open bodies of water which Blues must collect, and you obtain Blues right before the penultimate boss of the game, which you have to kill as quickly as possible in order to get back your infinite supply of juice bottles. The game does suffer from being too easy, too. However, I don't think Pikmin 3 is ALL doom and gloom. Louie is still shown to be capable of intelligent thought in side stories and mission modes, implying that there could be some sort of disorder or damage (likely lingering from whatever caused the events of the Titan Dweevil fight). The game's lock on feature makes for a great remedy to the lack of available motion control gameplay that made aiming possible in the New Play Control games, generally considered the best way to play them. I would also like to implore if you feel like Pikmin 2 is the better game of the lot BECAUSE the time limit is gone. Personally, time limits give me a lot more enjoyment for Pikmin games. Pikmin 3's surplus juices border on infinite days, but Pikmin 1 is a blast BECAUSE of the creeping day limit that drives you toward its goal. If you feel as if the lack of a time limit builds your enjoyment of Pikmin 2, this would suggest that Pikmin 2, the least similar game structurally to the other games in the series, is what you want out of a Pikmin game, at which point it's fair to say that ANY game that is not a remake will disappoint you in the future. You'll have to look inside yourself and ask what it is that makes Pikmin so fun to you, and ask if that's something Nintendo will actually realistically deliver to you in Pikmin 4.
@@akirbyobsessee7396 Hello again and thanks for replying, now I'll answer your possible questions. I don't generally find the time limits in video games all that bad, Infact here are my best day runs for each pikmin entry: Pikmin 1 Wii: 16 days, emperor bulblax Is a pain on the Wii port because of different bomb rock mechanics, so I had to spend a day solely fighting him. Usually collected 2-3 ship parts per day, oh yeah, this was my first playthrough. Pikmin 2 gamecube: 12 days, no-death run, paid off debt in 8 days. My day 8 was Stupid, these are the things that I did summed up in the chronological order: Went to perplexing pool Withdrew 60 blues and 40 yellows Built the bridge leading to the stump puzzle Yellow pikmin started working on the electric gate with Louie Olimar started working on the black gate to the submerged castle area by leaving Louie 4 blues and ultra-scpicying the 56 other blues to work on the gate Louie's group finishes taking down the electric gate Louie sends those 4 blues to carry back the Abstract masterpiece (I'm british) and then once they made it to the opposite shore he'd swap them out for 8 flowered yellows Louie goes to base and swaps all yellows with him for blues Louie goes to the black gate Olimar's working on just as it gets destroyed The Abstract masterpiece arrives at the ship Starts and finishes the scale puzzle Moves the massage girdle to the point where it's went over the one way concrete slab Olimar throws 2 pikmin out of his squad and enters submerged castle with 60 blues Now let me explain why I did that, Only pikmin that are currently in the active leaders group go with you into a cave, the rest of them just teleport to their onion or the ship. (Apart from buried ones but none of my pikmin were buried) Leaves submerged castle and swaps out my squad for 40 yellows and 30 whites and purples Yellows start working on the electric gate Purples get ditched near the gluttons kitchen and whites start carrying the massage girdle the rest of the way Whites arrive at the ship with the massage girdle 30 Whites are exchanged for 30 yellows Go back grab purples and get my other yellows working on the gate Electric gate gets destroyed Enter gluttons kitchen with the number 5 showing on the screen Leave gluttons kitchen and repay debt. Not to mention the fact that all the enemies that could be in my way on day 8 were there, and I had to defeat all of them! Submerged castle had so few pokos as to not leave the cave with repaying the debt, I was left 9700 or so pokos in total in my run so doing gluttons kitchen first wasn't an option. Pikmin 3 DX: I don't remember precisely how many days I completed it in but It was an all fruits ultra-scpicy no-death run completed in about 22 to 23 days My reason for bringing up the quote was to show how differently these to guys handled the pikmin series compared to Miyamoto, and it was the only quote I had regarding the directors of pikmin 2. As someone whose 100%ed pikmin 2 on original gamecube hardware the controls are actually pretty good, I did all those day 8 shenanigans on a gamecube controller. My main Issue regarding lock-on is the fact the games on the gamecube didn't need it, and I've got two reasons why: 1. The camera The camera controls were superb in pikmin 1 and 2 just go look at the pikipedia article for the camera controls. While in pikmin 3 all you get to do is circle the camera around the character in a ring shape. I've found myself sometimes wishing I could just use the old camera instead of this rigid new one. 2. The pointer In pikmin 1 and 2 on the gamecube the pointer could only move as far as a pikmin could be thrown, while in 3. the pointer can be moved anywhere on the screen, which you can guess how not good that is for trying to throw at a moving target. So a combination of those two factors is why i think lock on is unnecessary in the first two games and would be in 3 if they didn't try to add in a more standard camera and more wiimote like throw controls. New enemy sounds: Just go look up the pikmin 2 enemy sounds in a youtube video, and then do the same for pikmin 3 enemy sounds. Oh yeah, the armoured cannon beetle larva's sounds also got changed. Overall I just vastly prefer the soundtrack and sound design of 1 and 2 compared to 3 And Olimar and Louie's voices sound different and worse, especially Louie's. PIKMIN AI!: Ive had consistent issues with having pikmin do these two things: Running into a wall trying to get to me even though I've went back to get it, and I go to where it could easily just turn around to get to me, It jeeps keeps running up against the wall. (Not to be confused with any gates.) And the pikmin not being able to get onto the treasure if pikmin are moving it: they ethier get stuck running circles around the object or get pushed by the top of the object. (Please refer to me mentioning pikmin AI in the previous reply.) It also doesn't help that pikmin now go idle if they can't either reach your squad, or latch onto an object in time, in 1 and 2 the only time and way it could happen was to have pikmin go too far away from the captain's squad while in pikmin 3 given about five seconds or so they'll automatically dismiss themselves after trying to do the things listed above. Louie's character really regressed in 3 and yeah, the side stories and the unused secret file cutscene do depict Louie as a functional person, he still doesn't seem fully functional in the side stories compared to how he was in Pikmin 2, the incompetent silent guy who had a passion for food. Also I don't like the enemy redesigns of the flint beetle, the toady bloyster, the hermit crawmad and to an extent the burrowing snagert and other HDified enemy designs. Also also, whose idea was it to give a wollywog a shake attack?! Also also also, Here are the genres of games you could say pikmin 2 is: rts, action, dungeon crawler, rougelike and probably some others as well. Also also also also, thank god pikmin 2 is the one with the most modding support. Anyways, I hope you had a fun discussion about my opinions of a children's game starring walking talking carrot people. P.S. I encourage you to look into the development of pikmin 2 and 3 to see why thing were the way they were.
you have done one of the most easiest and most essential things in the game, but since this is a nightmare anything can happen, and we will congratulate you by killing your leader and crashing you game.

I'm at a point where I have so many complaints that I'm forgetting some of them so I'll wrap it up here
i've got WAY to many little and big issues with pikmin 3 that they just pile up to a game that I hate (mostly on the conceptual level) and that I can't call a great game in my eyes, which is a sad because pikmin 1 is in my top ten games of all time list, and Pikmin 2's on the top of that list.
One last note; Miyamoto was the director of pikmin 1 and 3 and two other guys who I can't remember there japanese names were the directors of Pikmin 2, and one of them had this to say about it:
"I think one of the biggest strengths of Pikmin 2 is that we removed the time limit from the game."
This quote doesn't relate to what issues I was talking about, but it shows how different these two guys thought from Miyamoto about Pikmin
The edit zone:

This is legitimately how I feel about pikmin 3
Also here's a rough timeline of events showing my history of playing the pikmin games.
Sometime: obtained pikmin 3,couldn't figure out where to go after getting Brittany, sat on the shelf.
A bit later: obtained Pikmin 2 wii from the wiiu eshop, had a blast, collected every treasure.
Probably soon after: picked up Pikmin 3, 100%ed it of course,
2020: p3DX gets announced I play the demo too much while complaining about the new *,more impractical* controls, I buy p3DX and gave pikmin 3 a critical second look.
I had gripes, and tons of 'em.
September 2021: I bought Pikmin wii on the wiiu eshop and had tons of fun!
20?? I probably get board one day and decide to emulate hey pikmin.
This completely slipped my mind before editing. The reason why pikmin 3 is so easy is because Shiggymoto stated it was made with "no-death runs in mind."
If you ever wanted to see someone else who has similar opinions about the pikmin series I recommend lambhoot's videos on the pikmin series.
I don't generally find the time limits in video games all that bad, Infact here are my best day runs for each pikmin entry:
Pikmin 1 Wii: 16 days, emperor bulblax Is a pain on the Wii port because of different bomb rock mechanics, so I had to spend a day solely fighting him. Usually collected 2-3 ship parts per day, oh yeah, this was my first playthrough.
Pikmin 2 gamecube: 12 days, no-death run, paid off debt in 8 days.
My day 8 was Stupid, these are the things that I did summed up in the chronological order:
Went to perplexing pool
Withdrew 60 blues and 40 yellows
Built the bridge leading to the stump puzzle
Yellow pikmin started working on the electric gate with Louie
Olimar started working on the black gate to the submerged castle area by leaving Louie 4 blues and ultra-scpicying the 56 other blues to work on the gate
Louie's group finishes taking down the electric gate
Louie sends those 4 blues to carry back the Abstract masterpiece (I'm british) and then once they made it to the opposite shore he'd swap them out for 8 flowered yellows
Louie goes to base and swaps all yellows with him for blues
Louie goes to the black gate Olimar's working on just as it gets destroyed
The Abstract masterpiece arrives at the ship
Starts and finishes the scale puzzle
Moves the massage girdle to the point where it's went over the one way concrete slab
Olimar throws 2 pikmin out of his squad and enters submerged castle with 60 blues
Now let me explain why I did that, Only pikmin that are currently in the active leaders group go with you into a cave, the rest of them just teleport to their onion or the ship. (Apart from buried ones but none of my pikmin were buried)
Leaves submerged castle and swaps out my squad for 40 yellows and 30 whites and purples
Yellows start working on the electric gate
Purples get ditched near the gluttons kitchen and whites start carrying the massage girdle the rest of the way
Whites arrive at the ship with the massage girdle
30 Whites are exchanged for 30 yellows
Go back grab purples and get my other yellows working on the gate
Electric gate gets destroyed
Enter gluttons kitchen with the number 5 showing on the screen
Leave gluttons kitchen and repay debt.
Pikmin 3 DX: I don't remember precisely how many days I completed it in but It was an all fruits ultra-scpicy no-death run completed in about 22 to 23 days
My reason for bringing up the quote was to show how differently these to guys handled the pikmin series compared to Miyamoto, and it was the only quote I had regarding the directors of pikmin 2.
As someone whose 100%ed pikmin 2 on original gamecube hardware the controls are actually pretty good, I did all those day 8 shenanigans on a gamecube controller.
My main Issue regarding lock-on is the fact the games on the gamecube didn't need it, and I've got two reasons why:
1. The camera
The camera controls were superb in pikmin 1 and 2 just go look at the pikipedia article for the camera controls. While in pikmin 3 all you get to do is circle the camera around the character in a ring shape. I've found myself sometimes wishing I could just use the old camera instead of this rigid new one.
2. The pointer
In pikmin 1 and 2 on the gamecube the pointer could only move as far as a pikmin could be thrown, while in 3. the pointer can be moved anywhere on the screen, which you can guess how not good that is for trying to throw at a moving target.
So a combination of those two factors is why i think lock on is unnecessary in the first two games and would be in 3 if they didn't try to add in a more standard camera and more wiimote like throw controls.
New enemy sounds:
Just go look up the pikmin 2 enemy sounds in a youtube video, and then do the same for pikmin 3 enemy sounds.
Oh yeah, the armoured cannon beetle larva's sounds also got changed.
Overall I just vastly prefer the soundtrack and sound design of 1 and 2 compared to 3
And Olimar and Louie's voices sound different and worse, especially Louie's.
PIKMIN AI!:
Ive had consistent issues with having pikmin do these two things:
Running into a wall trying to get to me even though I've went back to get it, and I go to where it could easily just turn around to get to me, It jeeps keeps running up against the wall.
(Not to be confused with any gates.)
And the pikmin not being able to get onto the treasure if pikmin are moving it: they ethier get stuck running circles around the object or get pushed by the top of the object.
(Please refer to me mentioning pikmin AI in the previous reply.)
It also doesn't help that pikmin now go idle if they can't either reach your squad, or latch onto an object in time, in 1 and 2 the only time and way it could happen was to have pikmin go too far away from the captain's squad while in pikmin 3 given about five seconds or so they'll automatically dismiss themselves after trying to do the things listed above.
Also also also,
Here are the genres of games you could say pikmin 2 is: rts, action, dungeon crawler, rougelike and probably some others as well.
Also also also also,
thank god pikmin 2 is the one with the most modding support.
Anyways, I hope you had a fun discussion about my opinions of a children's game starring walking talking carrot people.
P.S. I encourage you to look into the development of pikmin 2 and 3 to see why thing were the way they were.
They ate our pikmin, now we eat them...
